I only watched the first few seasons, but the character who appreciates Leonard the most is Penny herself.

There are several episodes where she feels intimidated and inadequate compared to him and his accomplishments.

I always thought of it as everyone else only sees the superficial outside view, but Penny knows who she is and why she doesn't compare well to him. Yes, she could get a hotter guy in the sack at will, but she knows Leonard is out of her league.

I think "Cloverfield" is the film I saw where this guy was dating this woman who had cheated on him while they were dating. But instead of the blame being on her for cheating, he felt like he was to blame because "I know she's out of my league" and basically it was his fault for not keeping her interested

Like it's okay for her to cheat, because she's out of her BF's league. But when a man cheats on a woman, people say that she should "kick him to the curb, because she's too good for him anyway". So no matter what, the woman is always "too good for" the guy

I dont agree with you. You want a perfect narrative where if you work hard, then you should get the girl? While what you say is nice, it is far based out of reality. Rarely does the "hard working" guy get the girl simply becuase he has some degree or some job. More times women like guys that have social value, some really good looks that give him the value, or something else that could help, but i dont think sowm degree and earning your way up ever is a way for a girl to like you.

Okay, I'm taking the bait.

The woman is clearly more pretty than the guy is handsome. When looking for a partner, humans tend to place high importance on looks.
Personality is another important factor. The male character is clearly portrayed as a geek and as socially awkward. The woman less so.
He may have stable job, but he still (at least in this image - I don't know how the series has progressed) lives in a crappy, messy* (apparently not messy and crappy) apartment, shared with an even more socially awkward, borderline autistic character. Not ideal, is it?
It may be less in the sense that he is lucky to have her, but surprise at how such an incompatible looking relationship has spawned.

Eh... this is pretty weak content. It's just a fact that most humans happen to place a premium on having a partner who is physically attractive. When you see a beautiful person going out with someone with average-at-best looks and an uncharismatic personality, it seems weird at first. This is because you're judging them on your first impression and not from knowing them and their relationship.

I don't think it would be too different if the character of Amy was going out with a male model. People would wonder why they're together and why he would want to be with someone who looks like her.

It's also worth pointing out that Penny finally grew up and got her stuff together. She got past the drinking and partying phase, worked hard and became a pharmaceutical sales rep, and makes plenty of money. And he's still immature and awkward and spends his free time in a comic book store.

If they ever broke up, she could likely find someone more attractive and mature, and he probably couldn't find anyone as good as her. You can't just pretend that personalities aren't part of the equation here.

Although these 'Ross' and 'Leonard' stereotypes are infuriating to watch, in a weird way they can be very helpful to your own development as a man. I never watched BBT but I used to watch 'Friends' a lot, and it mystified me as to why a character like Ross - well-educated, good job, not bad-looking - would put up with so much bullshit from a character like Rachel. Even if she WAS reasonably good-looking.

I actually worked with a guy who was in a somewhat similar situation to Ross in real life. He was reasonably good-looking, had an MBA and a good job, was well-respected in his field, but his wife treated him like a doormat, even though she demonstrably didn't have much to bring to the table. She eventually divorced him and got custody of the daughter, mostly because he didn't fight it that much and pretty much acquiesed to the situation.

In a weird way, I've taken characters like 'Ross' and 'Leonard' as perfect examples of how NOT to deal with women anymore. To me, the illogical contradictions between what they are as individuals, and how they are treated by the people around them in these 'comedy' shows, have made me determined NOT be treated this way in real life. From 'Ross' and 'Leonard' I've gotten much more selective in the women I choose to date or consider worthy of being interested in. If she's got a low-paying job, not much of an education, or not many career prospects, or too much 'baggage' or 'issues'...well, sorry, dear. You're cute, but girls like you are not really worth my time.

I'm not saying I'm anything to write home about myself in the looks or the accomplishments department. But I actually appreciate the examples of 'Ross' and 'Leonard' because these are exactly NOT the kind of man I want to be, with regards to relationships.

She has high base stats. Being pretty is one hell of stat. Str stat is average. Int is low. Stat gain is weak. For Leonard on the other hand, had low stats but high stat gain for int. Therefore, high potential.

Everybody likes support, most want to be carry, but don't want to have to deal with carry's early game.

TL;DR At the point where the story is, Its mid game. Support has been doing her task OK, helping others, carry is doing well. Hence both (to me) are equal in their respective domains.
