I think it's mostly external, although some of it's also culture which impacts values and maybe you'd call the internal.

One of the primary ways to meet partners since forever is to be introduced via friends or family. Well, our societies are increasingly atomized. We're online more and with friends less often. Everyone moves more so your friend groups are less stable and smaller. The decline of religion means the loss of a place that generally has lots of locals who don't all share the same hobbies.

Dating is partially a matching problem, and when the links are missing, good luck.

One of the other factors is a general lack of understanding of how the opposite sex's sexuality works. We're not actually the same. There's overlap, sure. But on a population level? It shows.

In that sense, there's internal issues. Everyone seems to be operating on very silly models of the world. Red pill has some decent ideas but then judges every woman as being exactly like women who are really into clubbing, who I strongly suspect are much more into casual sex than average. And then you get really stupid ideas like AFBB, which might happen but isn't normative female sexuality. Black pill is worse: they assume women judge mostly on looks because that's what men do, and that's also how OLD works: the info you have on old is mostly about physical appearance. Women, on the other hand, are too often clueless about how men view casual sex partners vs potential partners and end up courting the wrong type of attention. It's sort of seen as rude to discuss, I think.

But I don't think any of this is "women are bad" or "men are bad". It's more that our culture has been experimenting with the sexual revolution and porn and the internet and no one really knows what they're doing. We've been in a state of flux for several generations.

Women's nature is explicitly to purge many (maybe most) males from the gene pool. To set the benchmark. To see shades and variations of man, sit in judgment over us and find most of us wanting. It's why the Blue Pill is ultimately foolish. Male and female imperatives are fundamentally adversarial. There is not someone for everyone (especially not men,) and there never will be.

Without acting in male solidarity and against out nature to collectively subjugate women, nothing that men do is going to change that brutal reality. The only thing men can do is accept our fate.

With the consent of women, society used to employ some workarounds to soften the blow of brutal Darwinism but that consent has been revoked, seemingly with those mechanisms never to return.

The only ones who can change things, and in fact the only ones that have changed it are women. It's either that women show mercy, or men make peace with the very real possibly of being left behind.

A lot of the loneliness epidemic seems to be coming from external factors. If you're overworked, underpaid, and have a very crappy work-life balance, it's very hard to have a fulfilling social life. You might not have the time you want to dedicate yourself to your hobbies, you might not have the money for them, you might not have the time to hang out with your friends, etc. And that's if you're living somewhere where you already have an established social circle. If you've moved somewhere for work or to study and you're bogged down by long hours at work, a long commute, and general financial insecurity, finding people to spend your time with can be difficult. Add to that the way social media shows everyone else as having a much better, much more fulfilling life than you, and that can end up making you feel more isolated and lonely than you already are. Dating apps can get pretty bleak, especially if you're looking for a meaningful connection. Modern life can feel like a game that you're always losing in some way if you weren't born in the best spawn point.

As to whether men or women are to blame, I don't think I can say that either group is culpable as a whole. There are some shitty men and women who have created baggage for others and we all have to navigate our relationships with people with our own issues and insecurities, which can be difficult. A lot of people have pretty weird, and often unhealthy, views and expectations of what relationships should be, further adding to the shitshow. And we can't forget that the individual also bears responsibility for their plight. If you're a very asocial person whose hobbies are incredibly solitary and you don't have any way to meet people other than online because you don't like most social settings, I'm sorry, but a lot of your loneliness is on you. Nobody is going to drop off a bunch of friends and potential girlfriends at your feet, you have to put yourself out there to make those connections. Are they guaranteed? No, nothing in life, other than death and the tax man being a pain in your ass is a guarantee, but you have to take a good look at yourself, figure out what you want and try to achieve it. Sometimes it will work, sometimes it won't and that sucks, but it is the way things are.

''Why'' doesn't really have one answer and I don't think it can be neatly separated into percentages, nor do I think we can point a finger at men or women and say ''you did this''.

The individual? 100% And I don’t mean that in a malicious way. But loneliness isn’t a thing that someone does to another person. There aren’t people running around with “poor interpersonal relationship” guns shooting others with. It’s a situation that people find themselves in.

And considering that people can be in similarly poor states for different reasons (personal choice, bad luck, physical illness, mental illness, etc.) it wouldn’t be accurate to look for one throat to choke for this “problem.”

It's people failing to take personal responsibly for their own lives and relationships to other people.

Loneliness is circumvented by people being vulnerable, going out into the real world, and putting in the effort to establish and maintain connections with others.

Even with the rising cost of living, longer working hours, and lack of 3rd spaces to congregate. It is still up to men and women to individually put in the work to build and maintain the interpersonal relationships and community that they want.

It all comes back to a lack of physical or (localized) online spaces where pursuing romantic relationships is socially acceptable.

We used to have college, then the workplace, and church, malls/markets, and rec centers like arcades, bowling etc.

But now we have an entire generation of people who missed out on half or more of their college experience due to covid lockdowns. The sexes are increasingly self-segregating by profession, with men flocking to trades and STEM, particularly tech, while women are largely not interested in those professions no matter how much we push them to be, and are instead sticking to medicine, education, and social work. But even if you managed to find someone of the opposite sex in your workplace that you have the chance to interact with regularly, corporate culture has become incredibly hostile to romantic pursuit within the workplace, due in large part to the MeToo movement and the enabling of overzealous HR and DEI departments. And of course nobody goes to church anymore (even if they're religious), people order everything online, and people would rather watch T.V. and play video games than go to an arcade or go bowling.

Dating apps and websites could have solved this problem, but they are financially incentivized to rig their platforms so it's impossible for people to make meaningful connections and leave the app.

The only thing left is bars and nightclubs, but this is obviously not an ideal option for people who live more modest lifestyles and want like-minded partners (which I think is most people).

If you're a man, you have to be the best you can be. If you don't want to be the best you can be, then you're going to struggle dating women.

Women need to be smart early on. To some degree you need a crystal ball to know what you'll want later in life because if you make the wrong choices early it will be that much harder when you're older.

For all those blaming men and telling them they need to “get out”, “find a hobby”, and “meet women organically”, I dance as a hobby and probably have top percentile social relations with attractive women but still struggled with dating.

I’m there to dance, not date. Also, dating your friends is awkward. Uh oh Cindy didn’t work out who’s next on the list? Cynthia! Ah yes surely Cynthia won’t care about me obviously going for Cindy and feel like she’s my second choice! Life doesn’t work like the Bachelor. People will dismiss you the instant they see you showing interest in another.

I wanted to be able to just meet women while “out” but it’s nearly impossible nowadays. The instant I step outside of dance the quality of attention and chances I get go WAY down which I think relates to the tendency for women to stigmatize and pathologize men. It’s difficult to even get a chance from your potential future wife when she instantly assumes you’re a creep and thinks you seem average amongst all her “options”. Trying to talk to women while “out” is soul-crushingly ineffective for more average men.

So aside from dance and going “out”, where’s the one place I can go where I can actually get some chances and opportunity from women? Dating apps. I had to rely on dating apps and again, your value goes WAY down as a guy. But, it’s the only place where women would actually give me some semblance of a chance.

Porn, internet, social media and an evolving dating culture that people are still figuring out how to navigate. I think for men and women there’s less 3rd party public spaces to just exist which allowed people to meet organically. I also think the roles men and women have played in the past are changing and men don’t know how to adapt because it’s not something they were ever taught but are expected to figure out. The same for women. Relations are hostile because men think women live life on easy mode and women think men have it easier for various reasons. Both groups face unique challenges but people rarely see past their own situation.

I rarely answer my own threads but I suppose I'll give my answer.

I think it's 50% external forces and the remaining percentage would be the equal moral failings of men and women, I know there may be some resentment towards women (because they aren't the main ones suffering the consequences) but it should be known that men have had a hand in this, specifically in pre dating app society where it was common for men to engage in sleeping around and debauchery.

Maybe I'm downplaying the role women have currently, since men have virtually no power and agency within courting and relationships currently which would make it impossible for this situation to be their fault but still, we had the benefit of expending all of our recourses for fun, but now social media and dating apps are kneecapping us because we didn't have the morals of before to protect us.

I don’t see how one can assign blame for gender dynamics on one gender as a collective, because those dynamics aren’t really caused by collective decision-making. They’re caused by the fact of being human inside whatever social structures exist around us and direct our behaviour.

Human behaviour is a combination of nature and nurture. Our base programming is influenced by society and culture. The individual actions of millions within those societies make up broad behavioural trends and dynamics.

So changing technological, social, economic and cultural conditions see those trends and dynamics shift, as our base programming fits itself into the realities around it. Changes often bring about a set of improvements for many, while also introducing new problems to solve.

So yeah, I’d say if blame has to go anywhere, it’s on external factors. That’s good news in a way because while we can’t really change our basic human programming, we can change all the structures around it. If we can identify what’s causing the problems, we can think up ways to shift some environmental factors to ease them.

I'm going to be brutally honest here, people in the past were far more motivated to work at making things work together because they were just more attractive.

We went from a society where you could tell your friends openly "you really should take better care of yourself, get a better haircut, lose weight, brush your teeth and work on your personality".

Now we live in a society where anything that can be considered an insult is an attack, even if it's a critique that could help someone be a stronger version of themselves.

And all that unfiltered individualism means if you look at pictures of crowds from the 50's up to now, every decade people got less and less attractive until now your average crowd of people just looks completely unfuckable.

The baseline has gotten so unkempt, overweight, poorly groomed and mentally unwell that the work required to date the other side is appealing to neither side. It becomes honestly easier to just live a happy life than stomach having to find an average person attractive when your brain is saying "but they really don't look healthy enough to be a quality mate".

And this applies to men as well as women. Men are overall more vocal and in your face than women, so more men will be visibly complaining about their plight, but if every man who statistically has walked away from dating decided to go online and bitch about it there would literally be no room for any other discussion anywhere on the internet.

Far more men are doing the Japanese "grass eating man" thing, just calmly checking out, and finding meaning in their lives in the endless stream of distractions and entertainment that cater to them.

For the first time in history both men and women get to decide what they want to do regarding relationships without the threat of homelessness, starvation or death. Given how the sexes are acting I have come to believe that men and women just don’t like each other that much and there is no one and nothing to blame. Dogs bark, babies cry, men and women will be themselves unless forced to bend to the will of someone else.

From what I've seen posted here people usually blame women, men and/or the most common answer some external force like dating apps.

Dating apps are becoming more successful as far as getting relationships though.

Don't get me wrong, app companies are there for profit not for matches, but 40% of relationships now start online (mostly through apps) and that's trending to over 50% by the end of the decade.

Apps aren't for everyone. Some people do better meeting people through social/family connections or academic/professional circles. But it's a shrinking minority that meet those ways. Still billions though.

I recognize that women tend to have higher social emotional intelligence than men. This is well studied, things like their ability to pick up on facial social cues, and I think means that means they have a little bit more responsibility in relationships. If your relationship is going poorly she had more ability to catch and fix or end it than he did.

On top of that, parents should be pushing children to socialize more often. Video games can be a great way to socialize, parents are afraid of online stalkers so children usually spend most of their time playing video games playing single player. But there's a lot of ways to get around that risk and encourage children to play together. I also think parents in general need to push children to socialize more often.

The thing at fault is social media. Social media promotes extremes, all kinds of extremes, unless one extreme succeeds at banning and silencing the other extreme.

Normal life does not attract clicks and views. On YouTube, women saying they only want to date guys making $300 000 gets more views and men saying they only want to date women who are housewives gets more views. As a result, people just get discouraged and not want to engage in any dating.

Also, because social media promotes extremes, it influences other people to also want to live those extremes. But what people do not realise is that with social media, people will only post their highlights. For the content consumers, they will compare their normal and healthy lifestyle to these extreme staged lifestyles on social media and get depressed or go into debt chasing those fake lifestyles.

I'd say modern technology and the internet has completely fried a lot of our brains and dopamine reward circuits. Women are no longer content with one man telling her she's beautiful when she could have thousands of Instagram followers or guys on dating apps tell her the same thing every day. A man is not happy with seeing one woman show him her boobs when he can see thousands and thousands a day in porn and whatever fantasy he's into. It's the same way that fast food and overeating have destroyed our bodies. Eating used to be for nourishing our body. Nothing more, nothing less. Now it's used as pleasure and you can 4 big macs in one sitting or a entire tub of ice scream (gag, but some people do it). This is what happened to sex and relationships as well. Just mindless empty pleasure. A man used to have to go out if he wanted to meet women. At best he'd have a few mags for days he stayed in but they would get old fast compared to the unlimited choices offered in porn today. If a woman wanted to be desired, she had to go out also. She would have to find the man she is most attracted to out of a group and one that would be devoted to her. Now she can get on a dating app and be offered unlimited choices. The grass is always greener on the other side syndrome. Always hoping the next guy will be better than the last. She may eventually get tired and try to settle but by that time she will have things like high n-count, obesity, multiple kids, and a jaded and nasty attitude to boot. At this stage, very few men will see her as commitment/wife material and be only after one thing. These men are also in the wrong for misrepresenting their intentions and being lying, deceiving, and overall shitbags . The cycle continues.

Both sexes are anxious and have high demand due to biology. It's maybe 100% government/society. The government has made laws that give women more power and less responsibility.

Had sex but regretted it later, claim rape. Rape is defined as penetration, so while it is physically possible for a man to feel violated, it is legally much much harder for that man to claim he was raped.

Got pregnant but don't want a baby, get an abortion. While the recent supreme court ruling does put some cracks in this, by and large most women can still get an abortion. However I will admit that men should have more responsibility when it comes to pregnancies and abortions. Personally, I would gladly take more responsibility if I was given more rights.

Want a baby but don't want to be financially burdened, get child support. Many people will say that men simply don't want to be fathers, and while I am sure that is true in some cases, I would argue that the system has done a good job of marginalizing the contributions of men in favor of giving the woman the maximum amount of money.

Got married but don't like your husband, get divorced and make him pay you. I have looked into divorce laws, and it's pretty ambiguous. I have also looked into getting a pre nup, and there's a lot you can't do. For example, you can't sign a pre nup that allows you to avoid alimony, or allows you to have separate bank accounts that wouldn't be considered community property in divorce.

I like these examples specifically because women will be on here saying, "I don't need a man," but the government transfers a lot of money from men to women. In my opinion we are seeing the results of women being heavily protected from the consequences of bad decisions by the government and bailed out by men. Also consider that, women as a group receive about $150,000 in taxes over a lifetime more than they pay into the tax system. Where does that money come from if it didn't come from women?

Perhaps the ever decreasing rates of both sperm count and testosterone in men is making men’s pheromones or some other biological attractant overall less attractive to women.

These decreases are not the normal declines of aging but declines in comparison with previous generations.

Apparently studies are showing a 2.46% per year decline in sperm count and a ~1% decline in testosterone as compared to previous generations every year.
