Preferences are something that causes constant conflict in the arena of dating and I find it fascinating.

"I only like guys above six feet"

"I only like girls under 120lbs"

In theory preferences should be fairly neutral, because you can't help what you're attracted to. (And yes blah blah blah desires can be socialized that's not what we're talking about here.)

The real subject of interest is the human response to being put in an outgroup. To being told "you don't make the cut," from an anthropological perspective. I've had men threaten me with death because they were too tall and I don't deal with guys above like 5'7.
