Hypergamy is not possible for everyone. If most women want hypergamous monogamous relationships then many will inevitably end up never finding anyone since there is a finite number of elite men. Hypergamy is natural, not all natural things are good.

When 80% of women sleep with 20% of men then a large majority of men are unhappy. These men are left with a lot of free time to cause trouble and generally burn down society.

Why is marriage so prevalent in societies? Almost all successful societies have marriage which counteracts hypergamy and forces people to pair up. This produces the largest number of successful individuals willing to advance society. Marriage is not good for individuals but it is good for society.

Hypergamy is a double edge sword. For women who are able, it allows them to latch onto a high, status man who will commit to her and provide her and her child a good life.

For women who do not have the RMV/SMV, hypergamy ultimately results in them losing out. In some respect, being childless for many years, miserable and when they do decide to lower their standards having to settle for lower tier men that they would not have had to in the past. Thus, these women really do believe they are higher than they actually are; 5/10 female thinks she is a 7/10 and thanks to hyper-gamy wants at least a 7/10 to date her.

I'm not going to argue that its bad, it's genetically built into their subconscious so I don't think they can help it. But I personally don't have faith in a woman's love because of this, knowing that if a higher tier provider approaches her there is a high likelyhood she'll trade up. I'm not looking at this abstractly, in fact, I've seen it happen over and over and over again to myself and others throughout the years. Hypergamy isn't bad, its just the reality we live in. Sure it would be nice to have a woman love me irrevocably based on who I am as an individual, but that's not how life was intended to be I suppose. I wouldn't say hypergamy is inherently bad. Hypergamy is human nature, tied into biology and how we evolved.

Where the problem is coming up is that more and more women are entering the work force, as the college population becomes more and more unbalanced in the favor of women, you are seeing a higher and higher percentage of women with more education and higher paying jobs. And that on its own is not a bad thing, if anything its a good thing. But when said women still have the same mentality that they will only date and marry up, they are reducing the amount of possible boyfriends/husbands. Women already find 80% of men unattractive. Cut that 20% down even further to pull out the men who aren't as educated as her, don't make as much as her, and next thing you know 0.0001% of the population is worthy. Which is simply unsustainable. That's where the problem comes up. The solution? Women have to settle more, or accept that they will likely not marry up and stay single.

It is not men's fault hypergamy happens. But I wouldn't say its women's fault, again, it is just human nature.

From an evolutionary POV its not bad.

The problem is that it seems a lot of women want the best of both monogamy and polygamy, and its not possible.

A medium value woman can have a medium value man all to herself, or she can share a high value man with multiple other medium value women. She can't get a high value man to herself.

If women who are 5s and 6s want monogamy with men who are 8s and 9s, it'll never happen.

Also, from a societal POV, women aren't hypergamous about the right things. If we were living in Africa before technology then yeah, going after the good looking bad boy would make sense.

But we live in a modern technocracy. Women pursuing their hypergamous agenda just creates a real life idiocracy in a lot of ways. When women pursue high SMV men who are intelligent, educated and financially successful those men use birth control. Now a days I see unattractive girls acting like they are entitled to everything, including the best looking guy, just because they have a Virginia in between their legs and guys around them are generally thirsty. On average, the girls around me are 5-7/10, but they go for guys who are better looking than them. Of course this practice backfires because the attractive guys treat them like complete shit. It's both men and women's fault for having different incentives. The distance between two points can increase or decrease, they move equally from each other, the fact you think one move and not the other means you took a referential, and that referential just makes no sense. Here you are voluntarily saying that it's abnormal that men pursue women more than the contrary. I could pick my own referential and say it's abnormal women aren't pursuing men as much as men. It doesn't make sense.

Now onto the RP version. It's bad for two reasons:

On the societal level it encourages a raft of bad behaviour. Men are encouraged to be dishonest, women are prone to overreaching their potential and end up getting repeatedly pump n dumped. This is arguably not an issue in school or college - unless you think forming strong relationships is important - but when you get into adulthood it is a problem because it encourages prolonged adolescence and the destruction of positive environments in which to raise children.

On the individual level it's bad because men can find their cap and be traded in despite having done everything in their power. The top men can also freely take advantage of it to unsettle wives for little more than a few quick bangs before leaving the marriage in tatters.

It's also anti equality. Economically women can get their own money but seek out richer men and otherwise are really just moving goalposts with regards to looks. If their man isn't looksmatched they can easily help improve him and if he is then why isn't she still attracted to him?
