I’m sitting here trying to look inward and understand what I did wrong and how I can improve (which I’m sure is plenty).

I got surprisingly little feedback from my STBXW over months of therapy (like basically nothing), so for those of you who have been through it and are well past the early stages of separation…I’m curious to know if there are things you are now keenly aware of in terms of your behavior in dealing with long term relationships and what you intend to do differently in the future.

It’s early days for me, but I’m thinking that one of the things I regret most was approaching love as some unconditional absolute and that is not something I’ll do in the future. At several key stages in my marriage I avoided setting and enforcing boundaries with my wife because I knew it would cause problems. If someone is gonna avoid accountability, them knowing you intend to hold them accountable can’t possibly be a good thing (or maybe I’m wrong at that has worked out for some of you). That should have been an indication right there, but hindsight, right??

Either way, I welcome other perspectives as I prepare for whatever comes next.
