As a woman, I secretly love it 😂

I workout 4x times a week, am 5'6 125 lbs. I have a bit of a butterface, but nothing a lil makeup can't enhance.

But because the US is so overweight, being fit just instantly puts you at at least a 7. Then have a great style and be friendly, and you're set!

Don’t the fat people usually date one and other? That’s what I generally see.

I’d think for me at least, someone fat would have a lot of incompatibilities with me, so it wouldn’t be really just a physical attraction thing, anyway. So while maybe it’s a physical deterrent, it’s probably also an indicator of other things

I live in a rural part of the US and it is brutal here. Not only are there so many fat people, but the not fat ones are disproportionally off the market. Of the single people, the proportion who are fat and have kids compared to no kids and not fat is like, at least 10-1.

I remember watching a dudes fitness transformation once and he was "obese" even though he just looked kinda skinnyfat and when he dropped to a normal range he had abs and muscles from a few months of diet and exercise.

I think not everyone who is obese is fat, even though thats obviously a big slice of the pie.

Wow, I didn’t realize just how fat America is. And I’m an American. How hard is it for people to just be active? I find obese women absolutely disgusting. I read a post on Reddit the other day asking “how do obese people take a shit?” And some of the responses had me learn that some of them can’t even reach to wipe their ass. Now when I see obese people I just see walking fecal matter.

I will die on the hill that that number is vastly over stated. All those surveys that say 70% take in statistics of 18-100 year olds. I think if you just honed in on average aged dating aged people, 18-30,(and yes it is really hard to find a breakdown of obesity by age groups) you would see a pretty dramatic drop in that number.

I live in a college town. Literally 60% of the population is college aged/post grad kids. I get to work on campuses due to my job. I spend time at bars(and worked at them for a decade), I have public hobbies that put me in an area where I can see the "average" people in my opinion. I would give a VERY conservative estimate that 60% of women fall in the mid-mid upper average BMI(still definitely attractive to a lot of guys) to scalding hot perfection, range.

Now this is all personal experience, but can't imagine it is likely that it is that different in any area full of younger people. Younger people have more of an eye for trends/fashion, are more likely to care to look attractive, more likely to have better metabolism and so on. Compatibility and whatnot will always be there, but I don't think the odds are as bad as you paint them.

I live in a big coastal city in the US and the only fat people I see are tourists. Not only do you have to be fit, but you must have a successful career, good education, and be conventionally attractive to have dating success.

As a woman, dropping weight from 249 down to 130 changed the quality and variety of my dating pool. It also allowed me to be faaar more choosy in the men I choose to date. Being obsessed with fitness also lead me to choose someone else who valued health and fitness. 15 years into marriage and we actually are even more fit than when we met at 30. (We both transitioned to weight training instead of running/biking).

There are a decent subset of men and women who regularly work out/train/ do half marathons/ spartan events. These are the people you want to hang out with if you want someone fit or in decent shape.

The obesity epidemic has single handedly killed self improvement for the man born with below average genes. It's so normalized that women would rather date a tall obese guy than a short fit guy. As a bald guy on top of that, I had to work extra hard in the gym, and my dating pool hardly changed. All I got was a newfound disgust for overweight women.

At the same time it has made it much easier for the average women, and the tall overweight man. They just have to be slim to date attractive and fit partners.

This view is overly simplistic.

You’re not factoring in age. Older people will account for more of the obesity demographics.

40% of young adults, 20-39, are overweight

That leaves 60% of people who aren’t.

I definitely noticed that people on PPD have this focus on maintaining weight as the key to staying attractive past 30. Me, having a bit of a background in plastic surgery, was always sort of bewildered by that. I don't really buy into the whole thing of people finding only 22-year-olds attractive, but if that's what floats your boat, there's a lot more you'd need to fix than weight.

But I realize that being overweight is sort of in-your-face, and if it is common, it might very well take a prominent spot in everyone's consciousness about what exactly it is that makes people look bad past 30.

Where I live, obesity is not nearly as common. My extended family included a total of two people who were sort of overweight-ish, and one of them was 80+.

On all the dating sites I went on most of the ladies were average weight. Just from what I recalled. You can still look average and be technically overweight due to bmi
