So, it might sound strange, but I really recommend you go watch the show "the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" and also "Mad Men". Both are set in this so called glory era of the housewife (50s-60s). And they both will quickly answer this question for you.

Being a stay at home mom or housewife is a very precarious, uncertain, and living under the Sword of Damacles position. You're relying on another person to keep you alive and more than that, you're relying on them to want to continue doing so forever. And the thing you're relying on is a man, just as given to fickleness, deceit, betrayal, cruelty, and abuse as anyone else.

If you watch these shows, really imagine what it is like to be these women. They're cheated on. Their husbands leave them. And they've got nothing. Nothing. All in the blink of a man's hungry cock, their life is ashes because the person they were relying on decided to jump skirts and ship.

A lot of these men are dismissive of their efforts, treat them abusively, see them as "the oldest teenager in the house" for fucking example. Seriously, go read what red-pill men have to say about their women. Pretend you're a woman. Do you want that guy in charge of your fortune and children's lives. I sure wouldn't. He's not a stable provider who will love me and allow me to nurture our children and home life. I can't know I can count on him. It's a leap of faith.

And you can say all you want that women need to select better, but people change. The potential for evil lurks in every human heart. The temptations surround us all. And it's bad if anyone gives in, but a man giving in when his wife has put all her eggs in his basket. She's ruined. She's got to totally resurrect something she had given up (taking care of herself, now with kids added, and typically, dad is going to scumbag off to some other poor woman to do it all again).

And we as women grew up seeing this happen to our mothers. How they could never please our fathers and were relying on them and we treated so poorly that honestly, I hope there is a God to give them some serious cosmic backhand for doing this to someone who was in their care. And our mothers all taught us one thing: yes, motherhood is wonderful. Being a good mother is great. But don't rely on men. Always have a back-up plan. Always be ready to do it all. Be ready to be an imperfect mother and an imperfect provider. Because you cannot be sure he's going to remain good, true, and faithful. And if it comes to that, your kids need to eat and have a roof more than they need a mother who is there for everything. It's a terrible choice to have to make, but hopefully someday your kids can grow up and understand why you weren't always an amazing mother.

And this evolved over time to what you have now. Women who aren't even sure they want to be mothers and let kids down like that. And who know that there is great satisfaction in being the master of your own fate and not looking to a man for that when they're such letdowns so often.

TL:DR: Women would enjoy this aspect of being feminine if men weren't such shit. Just like I'm sure men would enjoy being providers more if women were less shit. But when women are shit, it doesn't as often leave you up shits creek as it does when men are shit to women.

Women work. They have always worked. They are programmed to do it. It's never been easier than today for women to do no work beyond caring for children, and even then, that's only for the upper classes. Cavewomen obviously couldn't afford to do that, they would've died along with their children if they didn't provide. (And obviously, caring for children is protecting them.) Being a good parent is a contributor to success, and of course we should acknowledge it in men too and acknowledge having and caring for children is also an instinct in men, but it's not normal for that to be the only thing someone does, masculine or feminine. Masculinity and femininity are really just grouping one side or another of human instincts and making them into one role, when people have the instincts to pursue the whole package and are more successful when they do that.

This is my take as an Iranian woman. How can you be a SAHM? By being 100% reliable on your man. They tend to treat a financially dependent woman like shit. You can't leave, you can't get a divorce. When women started having stable income, this dynamic changed. Now you're not forced to stay, you're not forced to marry young because you have plans for your future (even though our law is still absolutely flawed against women). I can't stress this enough.

There's no shortage of working men that view housework & childcare like it's nothing.

And all these women that raised amazing children, you listen to their stories & the amount of abuse they went through only for the sake of their children, because they couldn't leave & being a mother was all they knew their entire life.

Where’s the proof that being an amazing mother is not considered succesful? We can celebrate a woman CEO and an amazing mother, it doesn’t have to be a race between the two. Reasonable people don’t have a hard time understanding that or respecting women’s choices.

In fact, there’s a crowd of people that is allergic to seeing women not choosing to be a mother because that’s the highest form of succes they think a woman can achieve. It’s easy to spot them because they have 3 overused lines they repeat over and over and a weird dislike of cats.

Because a woman who chooses to stay home with the kids will ultimately end up broke and miserable if her husband ever cheats on her/abuses her/divorces her. It’s a big gamble and it always has been.

Being a SAHP is extremely risky, even with alimony and child support.

With child support and a minimum wage job (which is all she could get after the divorce due to her lack of work history), my mom was still living in poverty. She deserved it because she was the one who cheated on my dad, but even if he had been the one who cheated, the end result would be the same.

Cardi B will never be broke and struggling. She won’t ever have to beg for help or go apply for food stamps or worry about keeping her lights on. And her kid will probably get to go to a prestigious private school and wear the best clothes and he will always be well-fed. He will always have a warm bed. He will always have a nice home.

Being rich isn’t just a personality trait. Being rich means never having to cry because your mortgage is three months late. Never having to panic because your car needs a repair and you can’t afford it.

Being feminine is worthless unless you have an income to support it, and too many women have found out the hard way what happens when your sole source of income abandons you.

Hard to be a good mom when you can’t afford food to cook and you have no home to keep because all you can afford is a one-bedroom apartment.

not to mention women are essentially asked to give up like everything for motherhood. Men get to feel "productive" and "powerful" or whatever at work and after can go lay back and relax with their mates and what do I get? Where's my time to relax and hang out with my mates

men get to say "i did x, y, z" even now 8 generations later I've got a friend who would say "oh my great grea great whatever grandad helped build this railroad" or "oh yeah my dad worked in that hospital"

A man's genetic programming is not about being protective and a provider. That is one strategy nature sometimes follows with greater or lesser success depending on the current situation.

A woman's genetic programming is not about caring, loving and having kids. In most societies since the dawn of time, little investment went into children after they learned to walk: most of the childcare was carried out by other children in the tribe and children "worked".

You can laud women for their childrearing skills if you like. Sounds nice to me. But it is purely a temporary cultural virtue, not something that can be extrapolated to all places and times.

Not all of us are flawlessly designed to derive joy primarily from motherhood; for some it’s a harrowing and dark experience to work through. (And Hippocrates made references to postpartum depression, so we know it’s not an artifact of modern hustle culture or processed food or any of the other things people like to blame women’s mental health struggles on.)

I do think great mothers are admirable and raising children should be considered a success. (I also think that it currently is…one of my friends half-considered dropping out of grad school to have a baby because “people always consider you a successful adult once you have a baby, and don’t expect anything else from you for a while.”)

But I’m also glad we now have a rich array of options for our lives, because some women can’t get pregnant at all. Some can’t or shouldn’t have more than one, for medical or mental health reasons. And some women just don’t see motherhood for themselves at all.

from what the female colleagues that had children told me, being a mother with young children is also really lonely. Sure, they were busy with taking care of the child, but they were feeling as if their brain was rotting by having very little interaction with other adults.

None of their friends had children around the same time and "relationships" withother mothers that were neighbours were hit and miss at best.

Femininity has always been considered lesser than masculinity throughout history. Many men still agree that motherhood is of wildly lesser value than anything men do, even as some of those same men scold women for not being mothers.

So ask some of the men here who openly state that men built all of society and civilization all on their own, and consider the contributions of mothers through the millennia to be worth less. That will answer your question — and their views that motherhood is less worthy of respect than traditionally masculine endeavors are nothing new. Those same men may often enjoy or want to fuck feminine traits like motherhood, but they do not respect or value mothers as contributors to humanity.

As an additional reason, modern capitalism does not value any contribution of any kind that doesn’t contribute directly and measurably to shareholder earnings within the next quarter. Children are a long term project that requires substantial investment— capitalism views such projects as worthless.

Edit: also, listened for about 5 minutes. Funny how it’s always a man who insists that women should just learn to value a position that is less respected and less rewarded in the world, including by men.

Sorry, but a whole lot of women are unhappy with how the traditional arrangement works for them in the real world today for very real reasons, and telling them that no no men really do value women for these roles… just isn’t all that convincing in the face of the evidence. Women's programming is complex. Evolution doesn't do what it doesn't need to do. So women are programmed to want sex, like men though maybe not as much and/or on somewhat different terms. Women are also programmed to love kids and be good mothers once they have the children.

But evolution didn't necessarily program women to want kids that much. Why? No need. Sex always led to kids. But cut that tie, and well, you can see how a lot of single women don't feel a huge desire for kids. But if there were no birth control, better believe most would have kids.

In terms of why motherhood is often belittled by many feminists, well feminism got deranged by right-tailed, very intelligent women high in disagreeableness, industriousness, and other more typically male qualities. These atypical women became obsessed with how to be able to compete equally with men in typically male activities, because that was the nature of these women. In their pursuit of this, they really forgot about the needs of typical women, and distorted everything to try to create a world where exceptional women of their type could do as well as men at the elite, high end of the working world.

People do love their mothers. Mother's day is the 3rd biggest holiday by spending in the U.S. after Christmas and Valentine's. People spend almost 2x as much on mother's day as father's day - and I think the only reason it isn't much bigger is because you feel pressured to spend something on dad after spending on mom.

I actually really love your post OP, though many people will probably be offended by it. I’m a well educated and driven woman who could have had a great career in law but I chose to stay home from the time I had my first baby until each of my 4 kids left for college. ( and it goes without saying that I had a husband who wanted me to do this, and supported us- a privilege many don’t have.) I always felt that there was no greater contribution I could make to society than to be an excellent, loving nurturing mother who was home raising my kids. I wasn’t even remotely tempted to go to work- I adored being a mother and even though society doesn’t seem value it, it was obvious to me who the children were who had involved and invested parents who stayed him to raise them. My kids are young adults now and are smart, good people whom I’m very proud of. And I do consider their happiness and stability and my relationship with them my greatest accomplishment. I know some view it as a sacrifice but I feel in the deepest sense that I was born to be a mother. Many people who know me are shocked that it’s all I wanted to do and I never wanted a career. Maybe it is evolutionary. I wish society judged motherhood differently and made it easier for mothers like me to stay home when that’s what they feel called to do. We didn’t have much disposable income but I wouldn’t go back and do anything differently.

As an aside- my husband was a serial cheater, and eventually I left the marriage when the kids were off to college. It was horrible and painful. And extremely risky since I didn’t have any marketable skills anymore. Luckily because I had been married for 23 years I received a really good settlement that gave me a cushion and I wasn’t left with nothing. But any women who wants to follow her heart and stay home will be extremely vulnerable just like I was. I still don’t regret it but I’m lucky it turned out ok for me. I find I can’t encourage other women to do it because it puts them at such great risk.

We are human beings so we have desires, no matter whether we are a man or women. So it's not like a man must be the provider and a woman must be the good mother and housewife only. A child is the responsibility of both mother and father in terms of love and care. Yes, women get more involved in their children but that doesn't mean they don't have any other materialistic desires. The human mind is complicated. You can't entirely trust anyone. Being a housewife means you are financially dependent on someone so you willingly give up your control to the other person. When a human gets control of anything chances are he will misuse it. So yes you can face abuse in a relationship. Let's consider a situation, What if the husband died or he lost his job or something bad happened to him and he can't be the breadwinner anymore? What that woman will do in this situation? Being a provider can affect the man as he has to take responsibility for the entire family. Even if you are a loving mother and housewife still I think you should have a source of earning or you should develop yourself to face any negative situation to save yourself and your family. Life is unpredictable.

If we were supposed to be different from each other we wouldn't have the ability to do most of the work interchangeably. I think most people believe in the wrong concept of feminine nature. Every human is made up of some degree of feminine and masculine traits. I don't want to be religious but for reference, this is the concept that exists in Hinduism about the feminine energy and I agree with it. A woman can be a mother and if requires she can be a worrier and protect herself and her family, this is the actual feminine nature. Talking about the history there was a queen who fought for her kingdom by wrapping her child around her back as it was impossible and risky to keep that child somewhere else. She was a loving mother, a loyal wife, and a queen. There are many examples like this. We consider nature as a feminine energy, a mother. Why? Because it takes care of us and provides us with everything to live.

As human beings, we are supposed to survive on our own whether it's a man or a woman.

There are a lot of things to say about your questions, I can only give a few starting points.

To celebrate Feminity, we would need first and foremost to agree on what it is and to define it. No one can fulfill an undefined expectation and, conversely, you can't judge someone on an undefined criteria. The current situation we are in forbids us to define things as it is considered a tyrannical thing to do.
Our current societal paradigm looks down upon qualitative work in favour of quantitative work.
- It is problematic for both women (all of them), because most of what are considered feminine tasks are qualitative and men (but only those who are not number one) because, even they are upright, since are they not best, they are worthless.
- Even we had respect for qualitative work, by its very nature, it would not mean that women would be necessarly more respected. I am not grateful to other people's teachers, hairdressers, nurses or mother, I am grateful to my teachers, my hairdressers, my nurses, and my mother.
The intrasexual feminine hierarchy blew up sometime in the past two hundred years, but telling you exactly when and how is not in my ability. I would actually bet that, the most recent waves of Feminism, starting back in the latter half of the 20th century, are actually a consequence of this deterioration, not a cause. Urbanism, the democratisation of cars and the change of societal paradigm (see precendent point) are possible causes.

You are trying to connect too many variants here. We are not making life decision based on “what we are programmed to” “evolved to”. We are byproducts of parenting we received and peer group we were exposed to . Many men are not into sports and many woman are into academics it’s all not black and white.

Things that work for casual hook up don’t work for marriage and parenthood either. Men still are gate keepers of relationships and select woman whom they could build a family. This involves many factors not binary looks for money transaction.

There is also differences between being idealist and being realistic. Idealistically everyone should get loved and respected for gender role blah blah but reality responsiblity at home is always going to be fluid. In the current era boys will benefit from nurturing and mentoring from their fathers not just being providers.

The old binary system of gender role puts woman in weak position of no access to resources without help of a man. This is creates a huge power dynamics. The old systems worked when we were in survival mode but current generation is thriving and system needs upgrade.

I come from the culture the Gurji belongs to where this narrative is commonly said by elders but in reality the feminine traits get exploited not celebrated. Here girls are seen as liability and sons are seen as assets, some parents here don’t invest money in girls education because of the attitude they are going to be house wives any way, post marriage woman are expected to show her nurturing side to husband and family and cannot show it her own parents. Parents have to give dowry if the women is not earning high,volunteer absent fathers are common here- as in they are physically present and mentally absent as parent, their duty ended at being provider and children don’t have big father figure here irrespective of less divorces.

Anyone without access to resources is trapped in the current era.

My wife is an amazing mother while also following her passions, successful to me 🤷‍♂️ lol

But as far as society as a whole, being a good parent is just kind of a default, a lot of silly broads act like the bar for being a good father is on the floor for men and those women aren't to be taken seriously but the societal expectation is that if you choose to have kids you'll love them, care for them, feed them, all that crap lol

As far as why choosing to be a stay-at-home mother is shit upon by some, the answer is simple , feminism, the great lie about feminism is that it's about equality but it's really about misandry, Female Supremacy and male / penis envy , it's a virus

Now one thing I do 100% agree with a lot of the women on in this space is that if a guy wants his woman to be a stay-at-home wife and mother, he better be able to afford it, my wife doesn't work a job, she stays at home with the kids and works on her art, exactly how we like it, and I made damn sure that's a lifestyle I could provide before I ever thought about getting married

Some some say that the reason is that she depends on the man financially, and if he leaves, she is at risk.

However, this makes no sense as most government is made to help mothers who are alone, and you still depend on a boss financially if you work, and plenty of women would prefer to rather be stay-at-home.

The reason being a mom is not respected is because childless, resentful feminists and activists hate it, just as they often hate marriage and any traditional family arrangement as they want to feel special being "revolutionary" or some shit.

I think it is fine to look up to amazing mothers as role models but it shouldn’t be our only female role model.

The way the world is going, we are more free in certain society’s than ever before, people can make more choices than ever for themselves and their joy instead of fitting into moulds made by years of tradition.

Women who choose to ‘break’ the traditional role of motherhood are held up because it’s still shamed pretty heavily in many places to not want kids/not want motherhood so offering up examples of women who are happy pursuing alternatives is a way to sort of encourage the idea that it’s fine to not want to be a mother. Even if biologically it’s what we were made for, it still isn’t a path that brings joy to many people. Many people can’t even have children. To only celebrate mothers would be pretty cruel to those who can’t or don’t want to.

Being an amazing mother is an aspiration for many people and there are stacks of people to look up to for that. It’s certainly not widely shamed to want to be a mum. It’s definitely admired still.

The concept behind this "revolt through laziness" is that the excess of the established power structures derives their power through the productivity and devotion of the masses, and that any power structure past a certain size and scope will inevitably descend into corruption and oppression.

This is why you see the based & red pilled real men of the manosphere deriding productive males as betas and slaves, and ditto with the feminists decrying women living more traditional lifestyles. Because our world is run by money so success in general is defined by who has more money and better stuff. Personally I define success by how happy and satisfied you are in life. If happiness is defined by watching the sun rise every morning while hugging your spouse and having your kids on your lap then I think you’re successful. That’s just not going to be what society views as successful unless you’re doing so from a marble mansion in luxury clothes with your custom sports car parked nearby.

I suffer from my programming, personally. I had a very rough time on parental leave because I don’t feel like it’s work and I felt like a burden. I am not happy I felt that way, but it’s what society says often enough that it felt true.

The maternal instinct kicks in after birth but prior to pregnancy a woman has no biological drive to have children, to have sex yes but not to have a baby. The desire to have a child may be driven by a logical choice or by societal expectations and pressures but no biological urge to have a child exists, its been researched but we just didn't need it. Until very recently our sex drive took case of babies.

Motherhood is hardwork and is often to the detriment of other things in a womans life. Many women do no enjoy motherhood and its impacts even though they love their child, thats not because they don't feel motherhood isn't valued by society because in many ways it is but because those women want something else, something more out of life than just looking after a child. Women wouldn't give up all ambition or desire for more, for a life outside the home, away from her kids if suddenly being a mother were as respected as being a ceo and it betrays a very sexist attitude to women that you obviously think women would all just be happier if they accepted their feminine fate to be happy housewives and mothers.

However if you are serious about motherhood being as respected as a ceo then you should campaign for women who have children to be paid the same as CEO's.
