Men and women often here mention that men do the dangerous and nasty jobs as blue collar jobs, which is true, but they mention it for different reasons. Men say it to say that society needs men at a fundamental level, while women often say that to highlight how men are losers on average to end up like that, and often say women could do those jobs if they wanted. I find both views very myopic, but that is not the point.

There is a niche of jobs that someone has to do, or very few people want to do, but often are jobs attacked by society, activists and such. However, these jobs are highly profitable and give a huge advantage to men, who are more likely to do them.

  • Meat farmers. They produce meat and often their farms are considered evil or nasty for a while, while "pet lovers" eat their meat with no issues sharing pics about mascot pigs in Instagram.

  • Military careers. The idea is to kill the most of your enemies. Killing is taboo. Men dominate the military.

  • Porn industry and entertainment for adults. Sure, there are many female performers, and they are the stars, but often the people behind the profits and marketing and distribution are all men. Men earn big in the porn industry even not appearing in a porn video.

  • New controversial products and industries in legal gray areas. Men, for example, excel in creating crypto exchanges and other sites for technology that is new and may be revolutionary or just be a disaster.

  • Oil. We hear a lot of forces against Oil, and yet that is what keeps the makeup and plastic market we depend on un running. Oil is evil, almost a bad word for many pro-environment activists and yet someone has to get the oil from top executives to low wage workers and do what is necessary to do.

This explain why men are often rich as a class, since those jobs are often highly profitable and at least once in a while even common men choose them or invest in risky businesses.

Women play safer, establish new businesses but for existing industries and often choose jobs that depend on studies. Nothing wrong with that, but men play risky and that pays them a lot, it is not patriarchy or a conspiracy of men.
