B is closest to the friend zone. The woman can actually see him as a friend or she could be stringing him along for the attention. The guy can either want sex or want a relationship. But which is which is irrelevant. What matters here is what the guy chooses. If he stays in contact with that woman because he either wants sex or wants a relationship and she has rejected him, he has placed himself in the friend zone. The guy has no reason to stick around at that point. What does he hope to gain by staying? If he thinks she might change her mind down the line, that is the friend zone.

I don't know if either fit the ''friendzone'' perfectly, both have aspects of different versions of it. In one you have a dude that's probably just acting like he's her friend in order to bang her, in the second one you have a girl pretending to be his friend to get stuff from him. I don't know if anyone is actually friends for it to be the friendzone.

My definition of the friendzone is something you put yourself in and then complain about it. You wanna date someone and they tell you they only see you as a friend? You now have to decide if that's okay with you or if it would be painful to you. If you decide to stop being friends, cool. If you decide to remain friends, also cool. However, from my perspective, you've created the ''friendzone'' if you're not okay with just being friends, you whine about the situation, but you say you're cool with it in the hopes of maybe having a chance at some point.

Probably the second, although they technically both are (since she feels like she is friends with him even if he truly isn’t with her). The man isn’t being victimized in the first scenario, which doesn’t fit the connotation of what the friendzone is as much, in my opinion.

Neither, since both hypothetical men are ultimately judging their interaction by whether it resulted in sex or not, which is shallow and boring.

It has been striking me as increasingly sad how willing so many men are to basically define themselves according to sex - if they're having it, how much, what kind, etc. A) There is so much more to being an interesting human being than just physical sex; B) Guys who place so much importance on their sexual prowess are only doing so to impress other men, and a lot of women find that shit tiresome, childish, and just generally lame. So tired of men obsessing about whether or not they're getting laid - maybe trying to be original for once would help.

Interesting, is it implied that Girl B does not see the guy with any real friendship potential, while Girl A does?

By my definition, both are equally friendzoned as my understanding of that term is that "I see you only as a friend" is just a way to try to let somebody down gently and not word-for-word truth.

A) would lead to friendship with benefits, if she would comply (I assume they were already friends at the time he proposed sex, because she sees him as friend). So they only negotiated possible benefits. She also rejected him clearly, there was no gray area.

Guy ONLY wants to fuck a girl could also lead to the friend zone if he was trying to get her sexually from the beginning, she flirted back, but the moment he tried something sexual, she told him that she wants them to be just friends for now (but doesn't rule out that sex will happen in the future and didn't stop flirting). And he would wait for possible sex, but it would never happen.

An example of friendzone dynamics in "Guy ONLY wants to fuck" case:

"They are together by the water, she knows he would like to have sex with her, she doesn't want sex with him, but at the same time she does not want him to give his attention to other women. She notices that he is losing patience with waiting. So she asks him to cream her back and then her legs and ass, maybe her breasts (if topless is acceptable in that place). You could probably say he's courting her. But if she puts the label of friendship on it, it will allow her to date around, or even have full-fledged relationships with sex, and at the same time have this "just friends".

B because there is no Zone you are in with A. Though I personally don't consider B the 'Friend Zone'. You are just being manipulated by a woman.

To me, the real Friend Zone if very rare. It has to be a situation where the guy wants a romantic relationship AND where if he had been more upfront about his intentions he probably would have gotten it.

This is pretty rare since if a woman is available and attracted to a guy she is compatible with, it is rare that being friends would stop her from changing the relationship. But there is a human instinct, more pronounced among women due to their less aggressive sex drive, to start to see someone we have been friends with in a different way. So it is possible for a guy who would have been able to land a girl if he had come at her sexually from the start to slowly become unattractive sexually because he went friends first. Too much comfort. They know one another too well now so the mystery is gone. Etc.

Guy B is in the "friend zone", Guy A seems like a normal rejection to me.

View it as a negotiation,

Guy A just only wanted sex (though he might not succeed since beforehand she didn't see him as a potential suitor), he didn't get what he wanted so he left the scene.

Guy B on the other hand wanted a relationship, she wasn't into into him but wanted him around so she pulled the "let's just be friends" card while he could have just said "I have friends already" and leave the scene instead he accepted the terms of the relationship and to top it all of he is giving her boyfriend treatment for nothing in return.

Later on Guy B will be probably be asking this girl to reconsider the terms of the relationship between them from platonic to romantic if he is still in it.

Regarding the friend zone, only the pursuer can put themself into it. The other side is just rejecting the sex/relationship and offers friendship. If the pursuer accepts friendship and doesn't pursue anymore, this is not a friendzone. If the pursuer accepts friendship but still wants sex/relationship, they put themselves into the friendzone.

Friendzone is someone not accepting the rejection and trying to continue to get to their goal via the friend route, which is basically never happening and hurts even more than just accepting the rejection and looking elsewhere.

It's B. Friend zone is when a guy like a gal romantically but is covert about it and does all these non-threatening non-sexual "friend type" engagements with her. Even if she detects he wants something more, she can easily deny it, and often, women do.

He's being covert about his intentions, and she may or may not be exploiting this.

Using 'friendship' as a vehicle to become romantic with someone is a cowards approach and comes with all kinds of negative side effects. This is why when guys get friend-zoned they typically get no sympathy, or just told that the friend zone doesn't exist.
