The only thing I say changed afterwards is the popularity of Tinder among women. I'd argue that this period was actively worse for men as you couldn't escape the omnipresence of the misandric media. Now I can watch shows on YouTube that I actually enjoy without constantly being reminded how shitty my life is simply because I was born male.

Yes pretty much. By 2010 it was definitely starting to get bad.

But in that decade, people actually went out to nightclubs to meet dates. Women weren’t absolutely inundated on social media.

It’s a stark reminder that things don’t necessarily get better over time.

IMO, the internet and early social media were at their best when they at least required you to open a laptop, if not sit down at a desk to engage with it.

Once mobile apps really took off in the early 2010’s, it became so ubiquitous and “always on, always intrusive” it was game over and uncharted territory with no remotely comparable change / technological disruption in history.

It basically took all of the worst parts of all of the previous information dissemination methodologies (printed word, radio and television) and attached it to every human being 24/7.

Similarly, online dating was at its best in the early web-only days of match and OKCupid.

There was a sort of novelty to the whole thing that made it feel a lot less like a complete disruption of the dating paradigm and more of an augmentation and extra outlet.

I remember things being stressful and I struggled with poverty for a couple years, but I had tons of friends and went on all sorts of adventures to different cities. As for dating though- not great. You mostly had to meet people at work, at church, or through hobbies...and the pickings were not impressive.

I agree kinda, that is the decade I was in my 20s. The things that were better then in my opinion was there was no dating apps you did meet every potential prospect in person and I do think that was a huge plus. I personally was only single for a very short time I started dating my husband in 2002 when I was 20. Before that when I was single dating was in a sense easy for me in that I even then before dating apps I had a lot of options, but not many that I was actually interested in after getting to know them. Where I will say is I do think dating was probably easier for about 50% of men back then. Let me explain my experience is at that time the video game guy was kinda a new thing men becoming obsessed with video games really started with guys my age. Those guys basically took themselves out of the dating space not because they weren’t interested but they preferred playing video games over dating, the guys that put themselves out there had way more options and definitely were not into a relationship because they could play the field just by showing up. So yeah it was better in the sense of you could meet in person flirt and get to know them, but the options sucked.

Hard disagree. I think they was a beautiful golden era of dating and fucking from 1980-1989. Pre internet, social skills were there, knowing how to be attractive was a skill known only to a handful of guys in NYC. It was like being Steph Curry playing the day after the 3 point line was instituted.

No contest. A man who knew his shit was untouchable. AND things were good for the regular guys who had blue pill game and were prosocial in their niche. Music, games, fashion, whatever. You were only competing with at most, 20 other guys for a girl.

Today, the median boy is competing with millions of guys of every socio-economic strata.

When one put’s in work. My first marriage was okay. I worked. A lot. Plus studied. Plus rugby. Objectively my life was good. Nice house. Cars. Family. My second marriage right now, comparatively is so much better. Nice house. Cars. Don’t really work. My relationship is so much more stronger, because our communication is better.

Last decade. The 2000-10’s. The 90’s. All are irrelevant. Reminiscing even more so. Unless one is only looking back to learn. To better their future outcomes.

The 1950s in the USA were essentially the best time in history in all aspects except technology, which we know know is quite regressive to collective happiness.

While I disagree with your stance that the West is ”weakening and ruining” men (women have merely progressed to near-full equality…that doesn’t mean that men are being harmed in the process), I completely agree with the 2000-2010 decade being much better than current times. And I know, because I’m older and was in my twenties during that decade.

I think much of it comes down to this being the period of time right before the tech/internet explosion. It was uncommon to hear of someone staying inside all the time playing games or chatting online. People went out and socialized far more often than they do now. Everyone from my generation had robust social circles, and most of us met our partners through those groups. Dating wasn’t a nightmare situation because you got to know someone first before leaping headfirst into a relationship with a stranger.

Disagree, it wasn't great for women.

Beauty standards meant you needed to be super skinny, so a lot of women were just hungry all the time.

Media was hyper sexualised, but in a way that catered to men and not women.

Sex education was dogshit, we were taught about preventing disease but a lot of us girls had no idea what enjoyable, healthy sex looked like.

Being gay was extremely difficulty, especially for men.

A lot of the music in the charts was awful, people just have very selective memory about that lol. If you didn't like shit mainstream music, it was a lot harder to freely listen to good stuff. Even when you found a band you liked, you would pay 12 quid for ten tracks and only like about two tracks on there lol.

I'm 5'5 and I met my wife online dating in 2005. From what I've been hearing about the current generation, I am basically a dead man walking at my height these days in terms of being able to date. Back then it felt like shooting fish in a barrel.

It was the same then as it is now, just with less of a focus on online dating. I'd actually argue it was harder because you often had to cold approach women at bars, stores, the gym, etc. Or run into them while pursuing your passions, for me at least: mountaineering, hiking, MMA, jiu jitsu, etc is where I organically met most women. And for every woman I was interested in, I often avoided anything because if I see a woman with head phones in just chilling, I assume she isn't interested and don't bother her. So that blocked off a lot of potential. You also had parties with friends, but once you've been through every non-committed woman in that friend group and they all know you, you had to work pretty hard to find a new social circle.

With OkCupid, I can have a new gal over every week. Every 2 weeks if I strike out particularly bad, but that doesn't happen. I'll even drive my backup shitty car to the first date or hookup and give no indication that I have decent money. For the record, I strike out non-stop on tinder. I've literally not fucked a single woman from tinder. With OkCupid, I've brought home more than 30. Way more. And a few from plenty of fish, but those ended...very badly for me.
