This is mostly in response to that post about women feeling betrayed that their male friends end up wanting to get romantic with them.

I think just like attraction can generate over-time for someone you initially had not many feelings for isn't an exclusive experience to women. Men are perfectly capable of this.

You can meet a girl, think to yourself "yeah she's fine but not really my type" and as she demonstrates attractive personality traits throughout the friendship, your romantic sensors start to tingle and you grow to find her attractive in that way.

At that point, the prospect of not being able to get with her becomes painful and overbearing, so men (in order to keep their sanity) decide to go for the question and see if she reciprocates.

If she doesn't, it's a lot healthier for the guy in question to slowly dissipate the relationship (or outright end it) to prevent himself from becoming even more attracted to her overtime and get more and more bitter until he catches a mental illness.

It's especially cruel when it's a woman you are genuinely into from every possible point of view, but it can just never be since it isn't mutual. And the feelings will only grow if she proves herself to be even better than what you've envisioned.

So the last choice is to either safeguard your mental health by addressing the situation and acting accordingly or allow yourself to get deeper and deeper into these mental pits.

It's also how a lot of people develop "oneitis" or become fixated for decades on people from long ago. They don't address the situation and the wound just keeps festering until it becomes a semi-permanent mark.

What do y'all think about this, especially the people who had experiences like this on either side?
