Tinder knows that the dating scene is broken. Both men and women are done with online dating. They know that there are 2x as many men on the app as women, and this is a way to attract more women and get money out of those women (because they sure as heck aren't going to let this premium feature be free).

Tinder's business is making money.

They will roll this out, because every woman will pay for it. It will make their profits rise, short term.

But 85% of men (those under 6 ft) will just stop using Tinder and use something else. So, long term, men's engagement with the app will dramatically fall.

I further suspect that other dating apps will try this too, because they will lose female users to Tinder if they don't. This is the death knell for all online dating.

They can't put a weight filter in there, even though it would drive their profits through the roof (all men will pay for this premium feature), because they will be shut down for "misogyny" and "fat shaming".

Stop using online dating. Everyone. Just stop it.

Bumble has had this forever. The sad reality is most people actively using and engaging people on dating apps are men, chasing after much fewer women.

So the core motivation of these companies is to attract more women, anyway that they can. Why something like a "weight filter" will never be added.

Please if you're any form of normal guy, just get off these apps. They'll burn through your time, money, and self esteem with next to no results to show for it.

It was already over for short people on dating apps so this won't change much. Most people that aren't having luck on these apps (such as short guys or any guy that isn't an 8/10 or better) are simply leaving from swiping fatigue.

You are not supposed to talk about any physical traits of a woman, it is sexist, insulting and "none of your business". For men though, it's a fair game. And then when you point that out they will hilariously reply "it's different for men, they are affected differently by it!". Yes, because of the stupid double standard.

Football Manager is a football management game that has been around since early 90s. Player attributes have been a thing since forever, including player's height and weight. And now that they are adding women's football in the next version, they are removing the weight attribute for everyone. Apparently listing a woman's weight is not OK. That short guy though? For most men, using dating apps is figuratively equivalent to bashing your head into the wall: 1. It’s a waste of time. 2. It has a negative impact on your life. 3. It’s not enjoyable. 4. It has zero benefits.

If you haven’t found success on the apps after a month, they’re just not for you. Get off of them and either find another way to date or do the mgtow thing. Yeah, meeting in person isn’t what it once was, but it’s still a hell of a lot better than online.

So what, who the hell cares? It's not like you're gonna meet someone and they won't be aware of one's, e.g. height (or at least approximately so), likewise weight, other general physical appearances, much etc.

And relationships are personal. Can break up with anyone, at any time, for any reason, or no reason at all. Likewise on selecting/filtering - if that ain't what one wants - on either side - why waste everyone's time. More time to be spent on those that can actually well match, eh?

And sure, some may (pre-)filter on stupid sh*t that doesn't actually matter to/for them for, e.g. quality of relationship, etc. - even if they think it does. Oh well. Their loss ... and ... our gain - automagically filter out the more stupid/ignorant, ones that ain't got their sh*t together that much - at least yet, or that really don't know what the hell is actually important and meaningful to them in a relationship. Yeah, filter out persons that don't have their sh*t together on that, and avoid a lot of relationship that wouldn't work and that they'd break it off anyway 'cause they ain't got their sh*t together yet and don't know what really matters.

So, yeah, I really don't see it as an issue of major significance or anything at all to worry about. Sounds mostly like a net "win" to me - better quality matching and better matching on/with folks to what they (at least think they) want.

There was a great ted talk on hacking dating websites. It essentially came down to being more than honest but a balance of traditionally attractive and unattractive traits. The reason is that people don't want perfect, they want perfect for them. Thus, if people like your traditionally good traits and don't mind or actually like the traditionally negative ones, that's the best match.

This, this will help everyone. George Castanza might get fewer matches, but the quality is going to go way up.

Why does it matter?

Y’all take this height thing way too seriously. I’m a shorter man (5’7) and my wife is a taller woman (5’11). Does my wife care? No. I’m healthy and that’s all that she cares about. I’m never gonna be taller than her, that’s fine with me.

Being a smaller man, my wife weighs more than me and we fit in the same clothes. Do I care? No. She’s healthy and that’s all that I care about. Even if she was as thin as a rail, she’s never gonna weigh less than me and be healthy.

If you find someone who has a head on their shoulders, they aren’t gonna be obsessed with height or weight.

Sign off the dating apps, and meet women in real life.

i don't know why someone's height would matter for their prospects as a potential partner but i mean if people are going to screen for height then i don't think filtering that really changes much in the grand scheme when those people would be self-filtering otherwise
