**Note: I am only speaking of the positive thesis of RedPill. The normative i.e. what men should do about this is beyond the scope.**I think the evidence is clear that women are attracted to “bad boys”; aggressive, dangerous men perceived to be erratic and unreliable, often characterized by violence, wearing tattoos, engaging in loud music, etc.

Here is the evidence

  1. Women are attracted to muscular and physically strong men
    1. Male beauty has emphasized muscularity such as biceps, abdominals, deltoids, etc. However, muscular women are not seen as attractive by men. So strength makes men attractive to women, but not vice versa.
    2. There is a wider variety of male bodies than female ones in mainstream media; i.e. there are many more schlubby, out-of-shape men who are successful actors than women. Yet, male sex symbols are uniformly muscular and ultra-masculine. This has remained constant throughout cinematic history.
  2. Women find aggression and danger to be sexually attractive and agreeableness to be unattractive
    1. Women, unlike men, are also sexually attracted to certain personality traits. For instance, the above study clearly shows women associate muscularity with volatility and violence. Studies have also shown women are attracted to sociopathic narcissistic men, even when controlling for appearance. Also unlike men, women prefer certain traits for long-term relationships and others for short-terms. Whilst men obviously place more emphasis on the physique for short-term relationships and personality for long-term relationships, I have found no evidence that any given trait of a woman is attractive for one but unattractive for the other. The above study shows however that whilst women do prefer muscular men for short-term relationships, they avoid them for long-term ones. This is based on the impression that muscular men make bad boyfriends, which is also borne out by research.
    2. This is true in personality traits as well, as women prefer dominant men for short-term relationships but “prestigious men” for long-term ones (alpha fucks, beta bucks). A 2013 German study proves that women prefer dominant men for casual sex but not for long-term relationships. Scars have a similar effect and are especially attractive to women if perceived to have been the result of a fight.
    3. Again, the uniformity of sex symbols reflects this. Almost all male sex symbols throughout history, be it James Dean, Alex Pettyfer, or Jason Momoa are associated with such personalities. There are little to no examples of male sex symbols associated with intelligence and kindness. Note I am speaking of their public persona (often showcased via characters); I do not know these actors myself.
    4. Lastly, erotic novels aimed at women reflect this to a T. Virtually all of such literature involves a woman having an affair with a strong, muscular, alpha male who brings her excitement and danger. Fifty Shades of Grey, one of the bestselling series of books of all time, should be proof enough that women by and large like bad boys. Similar novels include Beautiful Bastard series by Christina Lauren. Each installment debuted on the NYT bestseller list.
  3. Even women who date/marry nice guys prefer bad boys.

Of course, most women do not end up with bad boys, but one's action does not always reflect one's desire. I prefer fries to salad, but I know eating fries makes me gain weight. If I want to lose weight and be healthy, I will switch to the salad. I may like salad, but I still prefer fries and will be tempted from time to time. So I am not saying that women who date “nice guys” do not like their partners, but rather that such selection is made in spite of their carnal desires. They find muscular and masculine men sexier but know they make bad boyfriends and so settle for more reliable, stable men. This is why very few women date or marry muscular men, as such men are attractive as casual sex partners during one’s undergraduate years but not as potential partners.

  1. Research has shown that women with less masculine boyfriends become tempted to cheat with masculine men whilst ovulating, whilst those with masculine boyfriends become more attracted to their partners during their cycle.
Edit: This been shown to be insufficiently replicable.
  2. A study revealed that the personality trait most associated with men who get cheated on is agreeableness; as kind, sympathetic, cooperative, warm, and considerate
  3. I will again point to erotic novels intended for women. Many of the stories involve women partnered with nice but boring men who fall for a dangerous risk-taker who gives her an emotional high.

Of course, just because a woman fantasizes about cheating does not mean she will. However, this post is about desires, not actions. A man who fantasizes about seducing his secretary may still remain faithful to his wife. However, if he were not attracted to his secretary he’d never fantasize about her.
In conclusion, I posit that Red Pill is that attraction to bad boys is almost ubiquitous amongst straight women. I think the facts presented above make more sense if that were true than otherwise. The fact that they may end up dating nice guys no more disproves this than my eating salads disproves the idea that I think fries are tastier. Of course, there are exceptions. I am sure there are some heterosexual women, even college-aged, who would not be turned on by a muscular, tattooed, bad boy. I posit that they are in the minority, likely about as common as straight men who do not find Selma Hayek attractive

  1. So for my view to be changed, I would like these questions addressed:
    1. If attraction to bad boys is not as ubiquitous as I claim, why are women even attracted to muscular men? What else makes biceps and abdominals attractive?
    2. Why are certain traits (muscles, aggressiveness, dominance) attractive for short-term but not long-term relationships?
    3. If the RedPill thesis is incorrect, why is there not more variation amongst male sex symbols? Why are they almost all muscular alpha-male bad boys?
    4. Why is there not more variation in erotic novels aimed at women?
    5. Why do women with nice guy partners feel tempted to cheat with masculine men but not vice versa?
    6. Why do all these studies, across the world and with varying sample sizes, repeatedly bring back the same result? Why are there no studies indicating dominance or aggression to be unattractive or neutral to women? Why are there no studies showing a positive correlation between agreeableness and attractiveness? Note: addressed; evidence debunked

Edit: u/AntifaSuperSwoledier has shown that the evidence for shifts in women's preferences for men vis a vis ovulation is lacking. This addresses the sixth question and partially the fifth question, although the Big Five study remains.
