My wife broke the news to me about 2 months ago. The ole “I love you, but I’m not in love with you”. We have been together for 20 years, married for 17. We have a young teen Son, that is our world.

We are living in the same home, and I am trying to figure out my next step. It makes the most sense for her to stay here, and buy me out. Finances, thankfully, are not a big issue.

We tried to “work on it” but that lasted about 1.5 therapy sessions.

I want to save our relationship. I love her. I love our family. Basically, I have exhausted all of my options. I’ve tried it all. (at least I think).

We are both in our late 40’s. I believe her decision might be partially pushed by a midlife crisis, or possibly other factors.

It’s hard to keep what she says straight. Typically things change day to day.

I guess what I’m looking for is any insight on possible reconciliation? Initially, she told me that there is a chance that she’s making a mistake. We decided to try a separation. She changed her tune 3 days later, saying that she does not believe we will get back together. At that point, I said we should get divorced. She stuck with the idea of separation first. I believe this to be focused around how our child reacts to the separation.

The back and forth is destroying me inside. I just want her back.

Has anyone been in a similar situation?

Much appreciated, brother.
