For the male lurkers: He asked her on a date I assume. He asked her for time, her attention, and for chance to get to know her. By getting that date he took time away from other potential suitors. He wasted her time then told her to pay for her half. Men, you aren’t taking a woman out on a date if you aren’t paying for the date. Going 50/50 is for friends and partners in established relationships. If you are neither don’t ask women out and then ask us to pay our half. That isn’t a date. You are not a HVM or a gentleman if you do that.

Men complain about paying for the bill but I will tell you this: Not one man with whom I split the check wanted a second date with me. I was miffed and my older wizened coworkers many years ago were like "it shows you're worth it to them". So I stopped ever going for the check and I'd get called back. Its crazy.

If it’s a nice restaurant her dress probably cost £100, shoes £100, handbag £100, makeup and jewellery £££, she probably took 2 hours getting ready....

She also probably gets paid less for the same work, and spends more on hygiene essentials, clothing and grooming generally for being a woman. So their financial situation is absolutely not going to be the same.

1) could’ve said “let’s go split dinner together at (restaurant) and been straight forward and avoid this giving her the option to know what she’s getting into before agreeing

2) gone somewhere he could afford to pay for both

3) used basic social standards, you ask your offer to pay is implied I ask my friends to eat of course I offer to pay it was my idea

4) not argued who pays at a nice restaurant and cause a scene and show how embarrassing he is to his date

if he cant pay for my dinner, he shouldn't be dating. period. instead of going to a restaurant go to work - but they cant seem to get that through their heads. If he wants to split the check with me its shows me he's having a hard time with money, is broke, or just cheap and I dont want to move forward and be with a man that cant even pay for a dinner. you cant build a house on unstable ground aka you cant build a future and have a relationship with a dusty LVM

Lol the cringiest thing is seeing someone split the bill at a high end restaurant unless it’s a group of friends. Most people that go are couples, families, or colleagues who charge the dinner to the company so one person pays with their company credit card.

I once witnessed a guy ask to split the bill with a woman at one of the best restaurants in the city and I PRAYED they were colleagues whose company wasn’t covering the dinner and that it wasn’t a date. So bad.
