I left a date once because of this. His profile said he was 6ft (I don't really have a thing for height honestly) and I'm nowhere near that. He showed up and we were about the same height. I made a joke about it and he got extremely defensive that I must be taller than I thought. I slipped the bartender $20 for my drink and left out the back of the place because I don't deal with aggressive men or liars for a second longer than I need to.

Men lie about their height on OLD profiles as if it’s not the easiest lie to catch when you meet them in person. Like, where do you account for those 2+ inches of height that you’re missing? 🙄

I saw a TikTok earlier where some girl mentioned this and some dude in the comments was like bUT wOmEN OnLy WaNt MeN 6ft oR tALLer---implication being, they won't get any matches if they're honest about their height. But like...aren't we going to figure it out when we meet in person? And...we're probably going to be put off that you lied about it, even if it wasn't a big deal in the first place for us, thereby axing your chance at a relationship/2nd date? I just--why. I once had a guy who was so sure that he was taller than me. He even has the waitress at the restaurant compare our heights, and even she said I was taller. His reply: “Oh it’s because of those heels you have on.” Never mind that I was wearing slip on flats. Literal flats without a heel in sight. These shoes have no boost to my height at all. 🙄 I swear if you’re a woman above 5’6 you gotta deal with this crap (I’m 5’10)

Haha this really is the rule and not the exception! I once had a guy ask me what size my feet were on first date (he wasn't expecting me to be as tall as I am, visible suprise on his face). Why do they always expect tiny ladies only?!

I'm 5'10" and I remember going on a first date. My first online date ever and the guy I met immediately said I was tall. I said I'm 5'10 and he said he was the same height and made me stand back to back to him to 'measure' which of us was taller. I hate insecure men.

The last date I had on OLD, the guy lied about his height so I wore heels and was taller than him and I could tell he was incredibly uncomfortable the whole time. The funniest thing is I never brought up his height before we met, he made unprompted comments about it twice by text/video; for example I mentioned something about Taylor Swift and that she is so tall and he said "Oh I guess I'm the same height"... Same thing when we were talking about Lenny Kravitz's big scarf. What did he think was going to happen when we met? That I would believe him and not my.. sense of vision?? This guy lied about four inches or something.. lie about an inch if you're going to do this. I don't even care about their height, my partner now is only about an inch taller than me but he's not horribly insecure.

When he texted to see me again, I told him I thought it was odd to lie about your height and he said "I didn't lie, it's my height measured by my doctor". Promptly blocked and deleted.

I'm actually dating a man who's 5'4 (I'm 5'9) and he's never let his ego be attached to something as arbitrary as his height or gotten mad over it. Hell, he embraces it.

I can usually barely tell because tall is tall to me (I’m smol) but I lived with an Asian guy who kept saying he was 5’8” when he was surely only 5’4”, maybe 5’5” at the MOST. Because compared to my height (5’2”) he didn’t feel much taller, and I have girl friends who are 5’7” and that’s when I feel they start to tower over me. it was fucking WEIRD he kept adding on so much. Like why lie by several inches if you’re gonna lie

I'm very confused about this height obsession. What's the big deal exactly? If you're short, you're short - there are plenty of short women out there, and plenty of tall women who would happily be with you if you're a HVM. (I know two short men from the same family who both married taller women. Neither of those men or women are bothered by it, and the men don't care if their wives wear heels either.)

Is this a USA thing? (Genuine question.)

In the military going into formations we have the tallest in front. So lining up the leader says "if you're taller than the person in front of you, tap their shoulder and move forward". I can't tell you how many times some tiny shorty guy would tap my shoulder to get in front of me because they were delusional about our height difference. I'm 5'7.
