While SOME may be troll posts, as someone who spent a ridiculous amount of time in Craigslist looking for rooms to rent as a single woman, I can sadly confirm that this post is not too far from the truthful ones.
I found too many of these type of posts, LVM preying on desperate women, where they were all similar: "$50 rent but you gotta share the room with me" or "no rent, just looking for a friendly roommate who can help around the house with chores and meals"
Of course the "requirements" weren't listed, but it wouldn't surprise me if those scrotes were going to secretly check requirements on any poor, desperate woman who answered.

In places where these kinds of offers come up the need likely exceeds the amount of space that shelters have. Figuring out resources is probably also difficult, especially while stressed with the situation that is leading to them becoming homeless in the first place.
A lot of women probably think that this kind of arrangement is a better option to get back on their feet or to keep them from a worse situation, and some might get lucky and have the situation turn out better than staying in a shelter. I would imagine that a lot face trauma and abuse then still end up on the street or in a shelter to get away.

The problem with shelters are that they are only designed to keep you from freezing to death or starving, even when they’re not crowded out.
It’s almost impossible to comply with shelter regulations, staff, and messed up other occupants and keep a job that makes significant money to get rent. Certainly in cities like these.

I've seen arrangements like this on craigslist, usually they aren't as obviously pathetic as this, but it's ALWAYS a thinly veiled "live-in-girlfriend" arrangement.
This just exemplifies how men LIKE to have money to hold over our heads. If we have free room and board they think it means we owe them sexual and emotional labor. These sex for rent arrangements are unfortunately very common in Vancouver and Toronto -- but especially Vancouver. I remember when I lived there I was taken aback by the number of postings for those.
Apparently, the women most affected by this are women fleeing domestic abuse. They only get a small stipend of like 400 or 600 dollars for housing which isn't enough in a city like Vancouver. So they end up trying to negotiate through this by offering companionship but not sex. Also homelessness is a huge problem in Vancouver and you don't want to be in the streets. The other predatory type of housing was those specifically asking for international students -- which meant subpar housing at a high price. There is also cleaning for rent -- which just sounds like a potential sex for rent situation. All these ways to exploit women. Sidenote: it also makes me think of the living- caregiver program, where women have to live with a family as an au-pair and there are many cases of abuse and assault and yeeeeet...
