This debate is based on my general experience with men, especially men online (who I don't really know). Men often have a bad habit of just suddenly asking extremely sexual questions without even asking if it's ok first. As well as asking about my sexual past or what I've done with other men without asking if that's ok to ask first.

Debate Point 1:

It's not ok to just ask women you don't even know sexual questions suddenly like that. If you already have been dating them for a while or are in a relationship it's more acceptable but would be more respectful/not catch them off gaurd if you asked if you can ask them a sexual question.

Debate Point 2:

It can also be seen as sexual harassment in some situations, especially if you don't know them well, if you ask women sexual related questions without asking permission.

"Asking women intrusive, suggestive, or uninvited sexual questions is considered sexual harassment if it makes them feel offended, humiliated, or intimidated."

EXAMPLE (not me)

One of my co-workers is sending me messages making sexist jokes and asking me about my sex life on works instant messenger system. I have asked him to stop but cant block him as we need messenger to communicate about client issues. I haven’t complained as I do not want any trouble at work as he has been there longer than me and is good friends with our team supervisor.

Key Points:

  1. He did not ask consent to ask sexual Qs

  2. It made her uncomfortable

  3. She told him to stop and he didn't.

Debate Point 3:

Asking permission removes any doubt that the question might be unwanted (non-consentual)/or make her uncomfortable.

For it to be sexual harassment:

The behaviour must be unwelcome, otherwise it is not unlawful. Mutual attraction, flirtation or relationships that you CONSENT to are not sexual harassment.

I would not say that talking to men online on dating apps with the prospect of dating them counts as consent. As they are still strangers at that point.

I wouldn't say a first date gives men automatic consent to ask sexual questions either. In any case it might make her uncomfortable still so best to ask if its ok to ask questions. Obviously the longer they date the more comfortable she will be. And may be best to ask specific consent again to ask about her sexual past if you wantbto know about that.
