Note the difference in desirable qualities. Men and women fulfill different roles in the evolutionary game and therefore have different desirable traits. One of the biggest mistakes non-RP individuals make is assume then men and women “age” in the same way, when in reality that couldn’t be further from the truth. In fact, most of the male characteristics (minus physical ability) tend to increase with age. Quite frankly it serves the female imperative well to keep men thinking that their SMV decreases with age because it prevents men in LTRs from “trading up”

Everyone has a “peak.” Some men and women peak early in their lives, and some men and women peak later in their lives.

I think what TRP is saying is that, from a male perspective, women peak earlier because that is when men typically find women to be the most attractive.

Women’s looks gradually decline at a relative rate to their age, but the women who peak earlier in their lives will be noticeably different from women who actually peak later in their lives. These would be the “exceptions” that people think of or talk about when they see women who are attractive well into their late 30’s and 40’s.

It’s usually the girls that were kind of ugly in middle and high school that end up peaking later. The most attractive girls in middle and high school (13 - 18yrs old) are the ones who “hit the wall” in their early 30’s, or maybe even their late 20’s.

Men who are very physically attractive in their 20's are not generally more attractive in their 30's and 40's. Men who are not very attractive in their 20's are sometimes quite a bit more attractive in their 30's and 40's. I know that I was a lot more physically attractive at 38-40 than I was at 20-22. This was true despite me being roughly the same weight at both ends of that span. I just looked...better.

But, this notion is, admittedly, a UMC and above phenomenon. I do not think this obtains among a lot of working class people, but most men in my immediate cohort look like this, while most of the women look like this. That's a stark divide.

Personally, I think that we simply don't perceive men as having declined in attractiveness even if their aging is exactly as visible as that of a woman their age - for the simple reason that our lizard brain doesn't equate "usless from an evolutionary perspective" with old looks in men, but does so with women. An old man who is in shape can still provide, protect and sire children carrying his genes, and if he's a really high quality specimen, he does all three better than an average young man. Compare that to an old woman: even if she was the hottest woman in the world in her prime, when she's 45, nearly every 20 year old blows her out of the water when it comes to a woman's job in the evolutionary department.

Women's major attraction factor is appearance and youth. Which decreases after the 20's or 30's

Men have at least five, maybe more depending on who you ask. Status, wealth, power, appearance and/or masculinity. Those of which appearance is just one and may slowly decrease. That is why in overall attraction, men get better with time while women don't. That is why you find researches which say men peak at 50. While men's looks may decrease, most men have all the other factors increasing with time. Specially power, status and wealth.

Sure a 40 years old body may be not as hot as when he was 20. But the fact he is the most powerful criminal in the region still make him more attractive when he was just a small thug. Thus negating the effect in his overall appearance to a degree (Sorry I cannot think on another thing because of that damn meme). If he is not a fat blob, he will probably be WAY more attractive.

Dude I know so many people, men and women, that have gotten way hotter in their late 20s/early 30s than they were in their college years and early 20s.

IME the wall is a silly thing to get hung up on. There comes a time in everybody’s life where their looks start to fade. It’s just different for everybody, and not nearly the rapid process that TRP makes it out to be.

I think the hottest men at 20 usually look great at 40, even 45. But that's only about 10% of men. The rest lose their hair, get a gut, go grey, get wrinkles or some combination of those. Most men end up on a fast decline after 35, just like women do.

The difference is women aren't as shallow on average. They will still find a man attractive if he's a good person, confident, and employed.

Men seek women for their ability to produce offspring. Therefore, it makes perfect sense why men would the most beautiful women to be the ones who at the age to be at their peak fertility.

Women seek men for good quality genes, but also seek provision (hypergamy). Therefore women are attracted to young healthy males at their reproductive peak. But they also seek provision, so they also seek men who are older, but also wealthy, or famous or has high status. Women find both kind of men attractive, they just find them appealing in different ways.

Not 100% true. Men's skin is tougher than women's; they appear to age at different times. Women will age sooner, but more gradually. Men will later in life but it will be more instantaneous. Plus, women tend to go for older guys because they're more mature and more settled in life, whereas men go for younger women for reasons I do not understand.

Things to factor in:

Men have more collagen in their skin which helps slow down aging process.
More men engage in physical exercise than women and tend to have less body fat. Both of which make you appear younger.
Stress. Men are better able to cope with high stress working environment. Women often burn out faster, take less hours than men.

After that it all comes down to the individual and their life choices but it's clear men have a distinct advantage over women when it comes to aging.

I guess? If she keeps in shape and looking good she'll be a catch, but she'll still be less attractive than she was in her youth.

I remember talking to one of my professors about this. Why women age less gracefully than men. If I remember correctly, it has to do with the layer of fat under their skin. As they get older, their skin becomes less elastic and wears down, making their age more apparent. The same thing happens ito men but it's less apparent.

But either way, everyone will grow old and die. So does it even matter? Sure, men might have a few extra years of beauty. Fine, whatever.

You've made a mistake by conflating "looks" with "attractiveness". Furthermore, from a biological standpoint, it makes sense for men to prefer younger women, because a woman's fertility rapidly drops off as she goes further into her 30s. By contrast, a man's fertility is pretty strong until old age, and often until death.

Eh yes and no. Men's looks don't fall of nearly at the same rate as women's do, due to wrinkles and grey hair not really harming a mans SMV. Also, women don't prioritize looks and youth nearly as much as men do for women. So it isn't comparable between the two sexes

Men's skin ages better than women. Holding all extra factors constant, men age in terms of facial appearance better than women. Men have thicker skin with more collagen than women to begin with, which decreases at a consistent rate over time. Women not only start with a disadvantage in the collagen department, but it only gets worse after menopause. Low effort post.

There's another reason why power dynamics balance out as people age: men become less horny and give women less attention. Women recieve less attention but they miss the younger years, the crave settling down and they still want companionship. But, men care less.

Thus, the apparent ultra high value young women enjoy, mostly comes from the infinitely thirsty young men.

99% of male attractiveness is height (unless your gay) so unless you shrink or something your attractiveness wont change much. Whereas the female attractiveness is a culmination of facial features and fitness which changes as you age
