Imagine being that miserable, daily, for years. Your life is just coming up with new hate to post on PPD everyday.

I think some of the vitriol toward single moms is unwarranted and unproductive, and I agree with your ending point that it’s sometimes tied into society’s increased hatred and disdain toward children… Which is a huge issue.

But… I think there are real concerns about single motherhood that should be able to be discussed. However, a lot of the discourse does focus on irrelevant issues and only vaguely tangential grievances, and sidesteps the actual major issue with a lot of single parenthood. I think the biggest issue that needs to be addressed, calmly and rationally, and without attempting to “own” each other on either side… is the detrimental effects of widespread single motherhood. These effects are both in the microcosm of the family and in society at large. It’s a simple fact that children in single mother households fare much worse than children raised by both parents, even when controlling for income.

Now obviously, tragedy happens, and there is a reason a lot of focus on caring for widows and their children in the past.

I also don’t solely blame women for being single parents in many cases but some single moms (and others) act as if it’s verboten to ever suggest that a woman, even a woman with a repeated history of failed and “toxic” relationships, has played any role in their downfall. I think there is an understandable knee-jerk reaction to that. Children’s lives should not be pawns for adults’ (men or women) egos. Personal reflection, accountability, and recognization of your own faults is critical… and when not addressed and children are involved, the children (and ultimately society at large) suffer.

You're confusing blunt honesty with hatred.

Like you said, single moms are used to society coddling them and treating them like perpetual victims of circumstance. Men don't really care to feed into these delusions. So when they tell some single moms around them that a lot of them made choices that lead them to the type of life that they have and it's not all some random hand of fate, they get mad and feel attacked. Single moms avoid accountability like vampires avoid sunlight.

Same goes for men saying they would avoid dating single moms or that dating them would be a pain. It should just be common sense that dating someone with a kid is just going to be objectively harder and more stressful than someone who doesn't have kids. Men say that because it's true, not because they're trying to be mean or because they hate single moms.

The feminist mind on full display. Attention is currency to women, but in their solipstic mindset they can't fathom that men don't think exactly the same way they do.

People go off on single mothers because of womens' inability to have accountability for the partners they choose. Imagine choosing a deadbeat to father your children, then when he does deadbeat things it's suddenly the fault of all men.

That quote helped me figure out why these guys hate single moms the most. Because Single moms get sympathy, praise, and accommodations. Things single childless men are far less likely to have. Also, since these guys see men as victims of society, single moms are proof of women being victims of society due to the (in)actions of men. That means feminists are right about something, and feminism is their enemy.

Another source of jealousy is that these guys are single. Meanwhile, even someone they see as beneath them, is doing better with love than they are. They whine will about it being a preference, but normal people dont dive into hate and mockery of people they dont prefer. It’s also why they call stepdads simp beta cucks. Also, mothers generally have the mutual love of their children, a type of love these guys most likely dont have themselves.

Men aren't jealous of single mothers. Claiming that a single mother is doing better with love than literally anyone else is quite a leap, if they were doing so good then why are they a single mother?

It could be jealousy, but I think its insecurities and despising children. I will expand on that another time. Right now, I’m focusing on the main hate, which is from single men.

Lady-Dude, I think this is way simpler.

I don't think anyone has hate in their heart for a Lorelai Gilmore who doesn't take hand-outs except off her wealthy parents and otherwise works hard, develops her own career, cares for her child, keeps some pretty draconian dating practices to keep her daughter safe, tries to give her a great life, instills in her the same ambition and lust for life, and admits that she was a stupid 16 year old who made a mistake, but has gone on to create a solid life for herself and her child. I really don't. I haven't seen hate and this character has been on television and hugely popular for multiple generations now. If anything, that's the single mother we celebrate because she's gone from human mistake that there but for the grace of god all of us go into a full life that is self-aware without having to be abject and stuck in the past.

What people hate are single mothers who are living high on the hog off tax payer dollars, don't have jobs, don't have ambitions, don't take care of their children, aren't good mothers, and aren't keeping their children safe by keeping absolutely insane dating practices that parade men through their homes and their children's lives . And they won't for even one second admit that maybe they made some poor choices when it comes to safe sex or men. And worse, a lot of them haven't just fucked up once, we all get one, right? A lot of them have repeatedly made this sort of mistake and are releasing multiple barely raised children out that the rest of us are paying for and having to parent or reparent. And do they love these children? No, these children are the host to their parasite. Without that child, they'd be in a ditch where they belong, but because the rest of us are basically decent people, we won't let their child starve and somehow that becomes them not starving. And beyond not starving, it often becomes them living in a luxury the rest of us cannot afford while they fail to properly feed their child. And when you have the audacity to point this out to their faces that they are a life support system for a poorly behaved vagina and that in many cases the best thing that could happen to their child is for them to drop dead so a nice deranged, but largely pleasant Christian couple could adopt them and start trying to undo the years of neglect and foolishness, they throw tantrums about how hard their life is and how they just need a little more sympathy.

That's why most of us hate them. Because of the audacity of this bitch. Make a mistake, own it. And then do what you can every day to make up for it and have the resolve not to stay foolish.

No, single mom's get ire for a bunch of reasons. Many of them chose to bring a child into the world in an unstable environment. That is a form of abuse right out of the gate. With that said, there's a good number of single mothers that did everything in their power to not be single mothers. You cannot really know without fully understanding their particular life story.

However, with how common it is, women are clearly not learning.

All this access to birth control and they still choose to have children with men who did not stick around.

There's also second order effects on society. Adolescent males without father figures are a menace to society. She's basically producing the thing that is most damaging to society at large.

Most people don’t actively hate single moms they are just undateable. I tried it once. They will always prioritize their kid over their new partner and you basically get the worst of two worlds. You have to take at least some responsibility and are involved in raising the kid but you have no say. Because then it’s suddenly their child again and it’s not your place to criticize her.

Not really, the praise they get is silly, because they choose to be in this situation, so them taking care of their responsibilities should be expected. No praise, sympathy or accommodations should be given for this. Of course, society praises women and assists them for any old thing they do, so it shouldn’t be too much surprise, this is even if they made a bad choice on their own.

Also, they aren’t really doing better if they have a broken home, just because other men of lower status (most of the time) are giving them attention doesn’t put them above anyone else. They still have a child that they will have to figure things out for, since it didn’t work out with the dad.

So will need to date to find something serious, which will be very hard to do, since only serious relationships that she is seen as wife material count, which don’t happen with quality men like that. Which is what would really count.

Since women can easily attract for sex, since men are usually willing to pursue any women for that, so it doesn’t count. Also, they don’t have to despise anyone especially not the children, just because they don’t care for her much.

It's actually not that hard for a lot of men to have children. The hard part is having them with a woman that actually loves you and won't use the child as a tool to manipulate you.

Single mothers might be victims of men, but they sure aren't victims of "society". And single mothers victimize their children by choosing to have children with men that are either unwilling to be fathers, or that these women don't allow to be fathers to their child.

The only single mothers that aren't single mothers by choice are widows and wives of abusive husbands. Otherwise, the decision to both have a child and be single is largely in the hands of women, not men.

I feel bad for single moms, but I don’t want it raise another mans kids. I might be willing to date a single mom, but only if she were willing to give me my own kids.

Typically if I am in the dating market with single moms I expect more out of them. A single mom has to make up for the dating handicap of having kids. I appreciate and value that she didn’t choose to kill her kid(s) but at the same time kids are a big burden and a lot to take on. I think I’d feel differently if I had kids of my own, but I don’t.

I would really have to like someone or she would have to be really great and attractive for me to want to date her if she has kids.

The key thing here is that expressing a preference is NOT the same thing as hating people who don’t meet that preference.

Often it's not jealousy so much as anger that his dating options are limited, and a pretty childish refusal to accept the reality that single mothers exist and refusing to consider dating them limits his options. A man who is adamantly opposed to dating a single mother is eliminating about 20-30% of women from his dating pool, depending on age and demographics.

He could choose to date a single mother but it comes with challenges he legit may not want or be able to handle. That's part of the reality he doesn't accept. So he lashes out, just like another man may lash out at overweight women or liberal women or any other woman he may not want to date. His reasons may be perfectly sound, but he won't own HIS choices and wants to rail about hers.

Like, we know most of reddit users, especially with subs like this, are probably in their teens and twenties.

Older people know that if they are single, it's very likely that their potential matches have been married or have kids. It has changed a bit in developed countries as expectations to have kids eased, but let's say, 20 years ago, if you are dating as a 30-40 year old, it's quite likely your matches have kids. In fact, it would be weird and questioned if your potential match hasn't been married.

In reality, for normal mature people it doesn't fucking matter. People meet people, fall in love, kids or not. Men who are so hyper obsessed with it are insecure weirdos who aren't very successful with women to begin with.

And for all the "but high value" losers, please, look into who Jeff Bezos married.
