I took my dog for a walk the other day in the woods, and I got to the point where I usually cross the river, and I knew it had been raining quite a bit, but the river was way deeper than usual. But I thought, well let's have a go at crossing it anyway, I don't want to walk all the way back. I started to try to cross it, and then I realised that I couldn't even see the stones that I usually walk on. Even my dog didn't seem to think it was a particularly good idea.

Anyway, I found out later that day that the entire county I live in is flooded, the town where I live is underwater, and some woman got swept away by the river and killed. Because I live in the hills, I was completely oblivious to this, and just thought it was a bit of rain, and was ready to try to wade through the river like a fucking idiot.

This is the town centre where I live. Because I live in a world of my own, I had no idea this was happening.

So I ran into someone from my old highschool in the gym today. I don't think he really changed much which made me realize a lot of guys in my age bracket have this weird monotone they never really figure out what to do with and a lot of them never grow out of.

It also made me realize how big the gap is between a vaguely fit handsome dude is and an actually strong person. He spent the whole time struggling to bench like 75 pounds for more than a few reps and I had to save him when spotting basically every step. Meanwhile I was doing about 100 pounds more with more sets with less trouble. He's certainly the more attractive of the two of us but I mostly let him spot me just to be polite. But he has a lower body fat percentage amd a nice haircut so what he does suits him just fine for what he needs.

Of course we both remembered the actual strongest guy we knew who went on to be a pro athlete. I just looked up his stats and he's literally at least twice as strong as me. So I can't brag about anything.

I had one of those “change your perspective” moments happen to me yesterday

I had a 13 hour work day yesterday, which involved crossing two state borders, and was exhausted when I got home. The guy I’m seeing was at my place (to let Pony, my dog, out and feed her). Long story short, he had a much worse day than me, and he was craving one of his favorite childhood meals

Background on this: my ex-husband had some issues surrounding food and working out, and because of that, he would never let me cook anything. He always wanted to do it, and if he didn’t, it was because he wanted to go out to eat. Meanwhile, I genuinely love cooking, especially cooking for people I care about, so this was a really hard thing for me to accept

So, I was cooking this meal for him, and he was hanging out in the kitchen watching and getting excited. I made some comment to the effect of “you’ve had a rough day, you deserve to have your favorite meal cooked by your girl.” And he responded with “You have that wrong, you enjoy cooking and you’re good at it. You deserve to be with someone who appreciates it”

And it was a nice kick in the ass reminder that it’s ok for me to want someone to appreciate me. I somehow had forgotten that just because a guy has certain standards/expectations doesn’t mean that he can’t simultaneously appreciate my efforts and talent

alright guys. Enough is enough. I'm getting back on the WW train today! Things I've learned since my wedding / honeymoon / october / halloween / cousins baby shower binge..

1) I can't do "Moderation" when it comes to sweets and yummy food in general.

2) I can get away w/ eating too much if im not tracking my food.

3) I completely forget my goals the moment delicious food enters my radar.

4) Everytime someone tells me I dont need to lose weight, I desperately want to believe them so I can continue to eat like shit w/o care.

5) I feel like shit when i eat like shit.

6) Working out is great unless you stop doing it then getting back into it sucks.

7) I can't love and accept who I am unless I lose weight and get toned. I've tried it. I'm happy I can at least believe I'm sexy and beautiful enough to keep my husband happy. But I'm not happy with myself.

8) Life is short and its Probably ok to indulge now and then. But I don't know how without it becoming a 6 week long binge so it seems.

9) It's really easy to gain back weight loss by returning to old habits. Weight loss mindset is forever. I'll need to be tracking my food...forever.

No sexual harassment

School was brutal

MILFy Teachers never called on me unless nobody else raised their hand. Work is even worse

My male and female bosses only ever valued me for my expertise. Never once have I been asked a personal question about my sex life or relationship status. No flirting or sexual innuendos from any coworkers. Everyone knows that I'm single, but what's worse they just assume it without asking.

Walking alone at night

Nobody gives any fucks. I feel safer than at home. Crack addicts cross the street when they see me to avoid asking for a change. It seems to me that when people can more easily lead separate lives from their partners, they have less stressful and therefore more successful relationships.

Living together puts much more strain on things and causes a lot of problems of its own and gives both parties little chance for alone time to recover from arguments and life in general.

I am of course writing this from an introvert's POV, but as I'm writing it on Reddit I also reliably assume most of my audience are fellow introverts.

It is also pretty obvious however that the issues which often arise from living together do not affect only introverts. For example the most common reason for divorce is finances. If the couple did not live together the finances would be far less entangled.

Note that the argument is not that living separately avoids all problems. Only that it makes them much less frequent.

AITA ?- got an aisle seat close to the bathroom after I told the airline attendant about my kidney stone. Middle seat - lady and her 9 month old baby. She asked if she could have the aisle. I said no....I need the space not to be compressed and to pee if I need to go. China is quickly taking over Hollywood and America is happy to help because it will make more money. I for one await our new Chinese cinematic overlords. Constant propaganda films telling us how great China is are at least a break from the constant propaganda films telling us how great America is.

For real though China is being very clever in leveraging their economic power. They have what will soon be the biggest box office in the world. They allow a small quota of Hollywood films to be shown every year but allow this quota to be bypassed if you co-produce with a Chinese company. At the same time, big Chinese companies like Alibaba, Tencent, and Dixie have been setting up film studios or buying out American ones.

The new Top Gun film next year has already removed the Taiwanese and Japanese flags to keep China's Communist Party happy because it is being co-produced with Tencent Pictures. Their influence is cemented and will only grow as its box office sales do.

This will be interesting to watch.

I have a messed up story I can't talk about irl because of who it involves. But it includes OLD, marriage, death, and gender workplace fuckery so 🤷‍♀️.

Yesterday my husband got ambushed by 3 women who work with him about firing a guy whose been shitty at his job. The "ringleader" is his favorite for being amazing at her job, Tracey. He listens to her and she makes sense but it's nothing everyone doesn't already know, because this guys wife died of cancer a little less than a year ago and he has three daughters. Literally everyone is okay with him being deadweight and the ambush gave no new information. He tells Tracey not everyone recharges 2 hours a night to be ready for whatever comes and has an emotions switch to turn off, this is an old joke between them. The council of Bros decide they all need to install an empathy update after their next charge.

He is bothered though because she herself has had brain tumors removed and is no stranger to cancer. So today he takes her to lunch and digs. Turns out this guy mentioned needing a babysitter and Tracey offered for her daughter to do it. It soon became a every weekend and sometimes weekday thing. So she asks her daughter wtf he's doing so much and it turns out this guy is slaying on Tinder. Like bringing women back to his place with his kids and his wife (who we all knew) barely buried in her opinion. Between that and sucking at his job the workplace FSM is NOT amused.

I'm not sure what the moral of this story is yet, but it all feels gross.

I've had a giant kidney stone wedged against tiny 2mm ureter for almost 2 years, and it fucking took this long for 8 or so doctors to figure it out.

Essentially my body has been trying to shove an elephant through a mousehole repeatedly and failing. Pain worse than childbirth they say.

If I was a man this would have been diagnosed and blasted out long ago, particularly if I wasn't fit. Instead I've spent thousands, had to quit all of my hobbies and physical activities, and almost had a hysterectomy.....headdesk. Relieved though.

I do like that many of the women who are the most vehemently opposed to TRP are all for FDS, and in showing this are inadvertently showing their true colours.

They claim to dislike TRP because it's manipulative and misogynistic, but they just looooove the shoe being on the other foot. In reality they are providing evidence for what many here knew all along. The real reason they dislike TRP is because it seeks to advantage men at the expense of female interests. If it really was the manipulation/dishonesty they had a problem with, then they would dislike FDS just as much as they dislike TRP. Yet they love it because it seeks to advantage women at the expense of male interests.

I have never been a fan of the "affirmative claim" rule. I'm not sure what the genesis of this rule is; I suspect it was intended to prevent circlejerking, which is fair. But I think following the letter rather than the spirit of the rule is squashing what could be quality discussion for pretty arbitrary reasons.

The linked post didn't seem to be making a strong affirmative claim. The OP said what they thought about the linked article, then asked for opinions of other people on the sub. Is just saying "I think xyz, what do you guys think?" making an "affirmative claim" that needs to be changed, or is it just providing a springboard for discussion?

It seems to me that following this rule to the letter means that no original theory can be posited or even just brought up for discussion without it being a CMV. Which also means that any "yes, and" type responses that might expand on the theory and generate more discussion are relegated to under the automod and largely ignored. People might want to put a theory or thought up for discussion without defending it as a CMV, but the affirmative claim rule makes that impossible to do.

It is my opinion that this rule is one of the reasons discussions here have gone downhill. Most of the high-quality posts on the PPD Depth Hub from several years ago would be removed under this rule because they're not presented as CMV's and top-level replies are not all in disagreement. I think requiring posts like this to be CMV's is artificially limiting the types of discussions we could be having here, and for no real reason. Sometimes a post will have generated a lot of good discussion for several hours, but then a mod comes in, retroactively changes it to a CMV because it made an "affirmative claim," and deletes many top-level replies that, while they didn't disagree with the OP, nevertheless generated GOOD and interesting discussion. If a rule that's intended to prevent circlejerking is also squashing quality discussion, it might be time to develop a new strategy. At this point it seems like throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

Anyway, just my two cents. I know mods work hard and you're just enforcing the rules as they stand, which is your job and I'm not criticizing you for doing that. I just wonder if at any point we might consider revisiting and possibly revising some of these rules that IMO seem a bit silly.

I had a really bad week. I had sleep deprived hallucinations, a piece of furniture got stolen, and I broke my diet to go on a bender of way too much weed and drinks and junk food. I quit trying for a bit.

Well I guess I'll do a kitty update.

Unfortunately we had to let her go on Saturday. The vet thinks she had a brain tumor. We tried her on steroids but unfortunately they didn't work. By Saturday morning she was a mess, could barely walk, didn't care to eat or drink, barely responded to touch.

It all happened very quickly. It was basically two weeks from when I initially brought her in because she started falling down. It went downhill very fast from there.

I miss her terribly. I've had her for nearly half of my life. She was such a wonderful cat, she was really the nicest cat I've ever met. She went from a literal feral cat to be sweetest thing you could imagine. She loved people. If you weren't paying enough attention to her she'd sit there and meow at you to get some pets, she had no problem walking up to strangers, and she looooved to lick. She was really a special cat, and she meant the world to me.

I finally worked out why I am so skeptical of the rule of women's n-count.

The rule of life that every adolescent boy should be taught: Dark Triad men always get the women first, especially in her pre-30something years. Dark Triad men rarely succeed with mature women but by the time they become mature it's too late: all other men have to wait their turn behind those men. Going to concert with ex(?)/friend on saturday, his gf who i am "friends" with texted me and told me they got back together, but he didn't tell me anything about that, and we been talking a lot recently. I've tried everything I can to sever my emotional ties to him, but the universe keeps shoving him right back in my life.

Is there any way I can maybe spice things up? I'm done going at it from the angle of trying to make him my bf, complicated situation but I'm not going to try to use manipulation to make him fulfill a role in my life. He's the only guy I've ever been in love with, but there was never a lot of sexual tension and flirting because I was oblivious and shot down his attempts at flirting so many times in the past because I thought he was joking. This paper will try to answer that question. The answer, I think, is yes. Given that every possible world is real, I shouldn’t feel lonely. There are many possible girls out there in worlds where modal realism is widely accepted. Some of the girls are single, and are pining for a boy in a world that isn’t their own. Some of them are pining for a boy who fits exactly my description, down to the smallest detail. Good news for everyone who feels unloved, if modal realism is true there is someone out there who wants you. This would have made a fun purge week post, which is why I was thinking about it.

I am wondering if anyone here has any movie recommendations for psychological thrillers. I have a really pretentious and annoying palette when it comes to movies; so if it is more of a mainstream garbage production I will probably not like it.
