I'm 26 years old and still live at home. I feel like being at home is holding me back from dating/hookups, as I don't really want to bring a girl back to my parents house.

You can stack the deck in your favor if you are meeting people in places where their home will be closer than yours is.

I used to do a fair amount of casual dating while still living at home and it was fine. Logistics were that we ended up at her place and I just screened for girls who had their own place. Done.

I mean, depending on the details, it can but doesn't have to. Yes, most women, especially in their 30's & up, expect a man to be on his own. But the fact is, in America, 80% of the population is poor or lives in poverty. Again, if this is a deal breaker, than I'd see that as a positive, good, that woman let you know right away she can't deal with this, but MANY women would.

Men get real upset when I talk about women's preferences & experiences in reality, as opposed to what men tell each other about women, but the sad fact is that if you can be aware of what women deal with from men all the time, you can really shine as a man by not doing all those things & a woman will cheerfully stand by you while you save $ & look for the right first new place to live.

It depends - In many places it is culturally normal to live with one's parents well into adulthood.

My personal opinion: It makes good financial sense to save up and not lose a chunk of your salary to rent every month.

I've dated a guy living at home, and there were pro's and con's. The benefit was that I loved his family to bits. I thoroughly enjoyed chatting to them and cooking for them. Visiting my ex was always fun and felt like seeing family of my own.

The pitfalls were:

No privacy. His parents would knock on the door often while we were in various states of undress or halfway through a fuck sesh - after which we had to stop and scramble to get ourselves decent. Many parents find it disrespectful to have sex in their house, especially if the girl or guy is new or just casual. Some parents will give the girl/guy a hard time and dislike them over this.
My partner seemed to be a bit infantilized and relied on his mother to do basic things adults are expected to do for themselves. His mother would come in and clean his room, sort all of his laundry on his bed and pack it away, and bring him snacks and cereal every day. The guy couldn't even prepare a basic meal for himself, and was messy and dirty. If you live at home, please do what you can to show independence even if its basic household autonomy. If a guy appears child-like, it can hamper attraction quite a bit.

Proposed suggestion: DON'T let it stop you from talking to women. Living at home can be an inconvenience but it is NOT a dealbreaker to most girls.

As mentioned, practice autonomy and show that despite living at home, your parents do not run your life, makr your decisions or take care of you like a little boy.

If she has her own apartment, make the effort and travel to her often. This way, you still get private time to be as intimate and flirty as you want. Girls wanna fuck haha. So go someplace where you can fuck without fear of being heard or walked in on.

Regular advice applies: be confident! A girl is more likely to lose interest because you come off as insecure/embarrassed/ashamed vs. your actual living situation. If you live at home, own it! Act like its not a flaw. Sell it if you want. High confidence works because people tend to be swayed toward adopting your opinions.

Don't mention it when first meeting them. Just mention it on the first actual date. Also quickly tell them the reason, that you work, help pay bills, etc. I phrase it as "I'm helping to take care of my grandparents." Because that is what I'm doing technically. When you're out and someone wants to go home with you, just say "I've got people at my house sleeping, can we go to your place instead?" Don't explain who the people are, just say people for now until you have an actual date.

I’m 25, and moved back home after leaving my old job in March. It’s only me and 1 parent in my house and she’s quite relaxed about me bringing people over. She just says hello and gets back to whatever she’s doing, there’s no sit-down dinner, awkward chat, door-open rules etc. It’s not lost me any dates so far.

A lot of my mates are in quite successful relationships and they also live with parents. It’s not uncommon for people our age to still live at home, and you can just frame it as “saving up for my own place”. Everyone I’ve ever met that rents is miserable as sin and they’re spending half their salary just so they can pay off someone else’s mortgage, but it’s ok because “at least I don’t live with my parents”. What a weird timeline we live in where spending HALF your money on some shithole apartment that you don’t even own is more appealing than living with your OWN FAMILY.

If your family is quite full on, just sit them down and say you are seeing people and for your relationships to work you’d like to bring them over, and just ask your parents to be cool about it. Mileage may vary. If your parents are strict and still treat you like a kid, maybe stick to going to her place.

I’m not super good looking by any means and I’m also short since that matter a lot it seems. However, my personality is nice and I’m funny. I dress well and have a good job. I’ve been in long term relationships and the girls don’t seem to care very much because they have their own apartments even at 25. The girls I date have nice features (nice asses) haha but they’re not butter faces and have personality. The girl I’m with now is prettier than my last and has an amazing personality. She supports me saving money at home. Also I’m not a deadbeat. I have consistently been leveling up in my career(I’m not rich). I make over 6 figures but my cost of living is expensive. Probably among the highest in the nation. These girls I meet at work, which might not be the best idea since I almost got HR on my case and threw my career out but I’m doing well haha so take give you a short answer, it takes a lot of patience since I’ve also been single for years at a time but I’ve also been in 2+ year long relationships with quality women.

Only 1 way to know. Go rent a house and live independent for a month or two. If you are happy living solo and also getting girls to come over, then cool it worked out for you. BTW, most people move out of their parents home to become more independent and learn life the hard way. Don't move out just because you want to get girls come over. There are MANY men who are living solo and independent and still finding it hard to get girls to like them/come over.

I wouldn’t mind a man that lived at home, would be logistically a bit difficult (lots of hotel visits and holidays I guess). With the very important caveat that they are at home to SAVE A DEPOSIT, not because they are a deadbeat.

I wouldn’t go back to someone’s parents house for a hookup though. It would have to be more a dating/girlfriend situation (where I’m not hiding in your room because they know I’m your girlfriend so I can freely move around the house).

Can’t say if it’s a turn off for girls but I imagine it’s a similar experience

Living at home is weird for hookups like most of the time I was hooking up I lived at home but never when parents were home so either their parents weren’t home or they lived alone. Even with a roommate hook ups got weird a lot of dudes wanted me to sneak in (although in retrospect their “roommates” were probably parents).

In terms of dating it never got weird though. We live in a time where it’s embarrassing to live with our parents into our 20s and yet at the same time it’s commonplace enough that it shouldn’t be. Most of the dudes I dated either lived with their parents or were like “yeah that’s totally normal in our generation”

Get a hotel close to downtown or nearest your favorite bars on weekends where the temperatures will be hot. Then you guys got a place to go after being out. You can just say you’re from out of town for a one night stand or that you have been in the hotel for a week while you wait patiently wait for your new condo to be finished haha.

(25) For me, it’s not that it turns girls off (I think most half decent girls understand there are many valid reasons to be at home in your 20s), but it’s a logistical nightmare. I can’t really pull girls back to mine, so unless she’s got her own place and a living situation conducive to bringing a guy over, my car is the only option. If she also lives at home, which is increasingly common at my age because inflation, then we just flat out aren’t compatible.

But I live at home because my parents are financially struggling (need my rent money and help paying bills) and my mother has health conditions that have her with likely less than 5 years to live, so I’m not moving out and abandoning family to increase my chances of getting laid. I’ll live it up in my 30s.
