You’ve got it kind of backwards. “Sassy” is used to describe women and gay men who stand up for themselves in a stereotypically feminine kind of way. The only reason hetero men usually aren’t called “sassy” is because people don’t think anything of them standing up for themselves, it’s just expected that they will. In the same way, being “empowered” is seen as feminine because it’s just taken for granted that men already have power.
