I used to, but not anymore. Why? Because people are selfish. Everything is transactional. Friends don't do things for one another without expectations. Dating is more like an advanced mathematics class. "He has to have X amount of friends, Y amount of money, and Z amount of sex appeal or i won't even consider dating. Pretty cliched at this point but to me love is more like a commitment or devotion to another person. The source of that devotion isn't always going to be an undying sexual attraction.

The feeling of "in love" is chemical due to attraction, curiosity, new experience and is at its highest when the relationship is new. It takes over and feels like a high.

People who mistake the "in love high" for mature, lasting love will never proceed to the next level of love. The are always chasing the illusionary high rather than progressing through the stages.

There is also the misunderstanding that love conquers all, therefore making it "true love." But everyone and everything has a limit to what they will take before leaving or breaking.

Being in love together and staying in love together are two very different things. The biggest issue is that you are never really able to be with the "same person" all that long. Loving a person is easy. But love the person they become 10 years down the road? Well that's difficult.

I believe "love" is a set of chemicals produced within our bodies which cause us to respond to them in certain ways upon seeing or thinking about the person or image that our brains have associated with the release of these chemicals. They are not exclusive for any one person. They can be produced and associated with multiple people.

Plenty. People's day to day interactions affect these chemicals and associations, and changes in behavior and appearance alter the production of these chemicals. Some people might experience more "love" for one person while that person experiences less "love" for them in return.

In my opinion, that's precisely why it is difficult for men and women to attract each other naturally, without saying and doing specific things which cause the brain to produce these chemicals and make these visual and tactile associations.

I don't really believe in anything like "true love" or any blue-pilled garbage like that. I think that people can experience deep physical and emotional/spiritual bonds with each other, which is just another way of describing "love" from a "top-down" view, but the kind of love depicted in movies is a fantasy.

Like it or not, nobody is going to continue "loving" someone despite repeatedly being battered and treated poorly by someone else (unless they're the type that associates pain with pleasure), so all ideas of "love" aren't based on some eternal fantasy of forever-togetherness. Love is a construct and largely a lie. Women, if they love at all, love conditionally and opportunistically.

The idea of "unconditional love" is perhaps reserved for a "Gods love of his people" (but even then he throws the odd flood or plague) and perhaps a mother of her child (but even then women drown them in the bathtub or just neglect them.)

I would define love as something truly selfless - that is, a feeling that will not go away without some sort of extreme cause, and that is entirely focused on the other person, without expecting anything in return, wanting the best and the happiness of another even if it is not best for oneself or makes oneself happy.

I believe this is prevalent in mothers, sometimes siblings.

In romantic relationships, I think women can feel this, but men can never feel it on the same level women can, in my experience. Men have a certain self-absorption that makes them genuinely incapable of caring about someone else fully and entirely with no self-interest whatsoever. Men are much more quick to retract their "love" when something isn't going their way, they expect something in return for everything they do. There's no fault in this, it's a evolution thing programmed into them.

I'm sure there are exceptions but this is the tendency. So basically, yes, but almost always exclusively in women.

The problem with the word "love" is that has many meanings and people use it without knowing why the other one is using it.

Love is used as a catch all term for people who do not have the mental aptitude to define a "good feeling" when they are with someone.

It is also used as an anchor for manipulation. Love is oftentimes used a precursor to a commitment. Women would press men to say they love them instead of discussing commitment directly. It is also used as a way to escape responsibility. Men use the word "love" as an excuse to just being a shitty partner.

People use the word love to lie indirectly. Guys say they love a girl to indirectly suggest commitment just to get them to have sex with them.

It's an ambiguous word and I suggest you clarify what context it is being used before you say it to someone because you are opening yourself up to either sub-textual manipulation, lies, or you plain old self-imposed cognitive dissonance.

On a physical level, “love” is just 4 main chemicals (dopamine, cortisol , epinephrine- most commonly known as adrenaline- and vasopressin in the case of men, oxytocin India the case of women). These 4 main chemicals are driven by ones body picking up the pheromones of the opposite sex, and determining that via sexual reproduction, a healthy offspring will result via the mixing of the two immunology systems. This obviously dissipates 3-4 years in once the baby starts gaining conscious thoughts.
