This is incredible! It takes me back to my puberty. I used to dream about taking a kitchen knife and just butchering those parts off. I wanted so badly to escape my femininity-- not because I hated being a woman, but because I hated how being a woman affected the way I was perceived.

Growing up, I was hyper aware of the fact that they were the reason why I'm dismissed by adults, told I'll be bad at math and told I'm doomed to be a bad driver, and so many more insults. (Fun fact: my actual DRIVING TEACHER told 16 year old me I'd always be a bad driver because Im a woman. I told him that's stupid and untrue and unsupported by data and he shook his head and insisted, "Women are bad drivers." We agreed to disagree, but I still burn whenever I think of it. How can a teacher be so idiotic?)

This picture is so perfect and impactful -- I'm so impressed when artists can illustrate complex topics so simply! Especially as an amateur artist myself (though nowhere near this level, haha)

I loved the painting and wanted to see what else the artist had done, and now I feel conflicted... British and Iranian like me but the artist is a man, which in my mind detracts from the feelings evoked by the piece, as it's not coming from a place of personal experience and female solidarity. I felt weird when I realised it was painted by a man.

I genuinely sometimes want to wear some sort of metal armour thing around my chest and hips to protect from being groped. In grade 7 there were boys who would always grope the girls and to this day I still instinctively cover my chest and move my butt away if someone walks near me.
