It offend me when during Father's Day, some women in social media will make it about them by mentioning women who raised children by themselves. If single Fathers did the same during mother's day could you imagine the backlash?

And now the woman is the victim for being a poor helpless single mother

[–]Moonyu69 45 points46 points47 points 9 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

She's in a relationship with her brother-in-law. Only two months later she found true happiness.

[–]HiredMind 19 points20 points21 points 9 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Jeez. She's going to work that whole family to death I guess.

he's fucking scum as far as im concerned.

[–]Atheist101 5 points6 points7 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

My money is that they were cheating long before his brother died. Theres no way two people go from nothing to in love/a relationship in just 2 months

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Well I'm pretty sure in Leviticus a man must marry his brothers widow soooo....maybe they're religious?

[–]mgtownigga 9 points10 points11 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

that guy betrayed his brother for a taste of pussy. Disgusting

HORATIO My lord, I came to see your father's funeral.

HAMLET I pray thee, do not mock me, fellow-student; I think it was to see my mother's wedding.

HAMLET Thrift, thrift, Horatio! The funeral baked meats Did coldly furnish forth the marriage tables.

gotta love how people are sympathising with the woman in the comments

[–]Mencite -2 points-1 points0 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Actually this story cheered me up. If this guy was allowing his wife to treat him like dirt then he deserved this. We have to start making a distinction between who accept this anti men treatment like lap dogs or those who want to completely change things and only support the latter. Hardworking guys who allow women to kick them out of the bed deserve no sympathy.

[–]samsc2 381 points382 points383 points 9 years ago (104 children) | Copy Link

I love how they paint her as the victim almost immediately as if she's not actually the villain in the story. What woman starts an argument with a guy who just worked 16 hours that day FOR HER, and then makes HIM sleep on the couch? I don't understand that at all.

[–]CatManDontDo 169 points170 points171 points 9 years ago (20 children) | Copy Link

I'll never get that. Like where does she get off saying he can't sleep in his own bed?

[–]FastFourierTerraform 203 points204 points205 points 9 years ago (18 children) | Copy Link

Story time. My ex came to visit me at work when I worked at a bar. I wasn't quite done my shift yet so she sat with some servers we knew and had a few drinks. I finally got off and sat with them for a while, just wanting to go home. She was too drunk to drive so after a while of humouring her I said that she should leave with me now because I worked all day and I just want to go home. She was stubborn and refused so I went and got the car warmed up(canadian winters) then texted her a final time that this is her last chance for a ride. She agreed so I went back inside to escort her out. Inside she just tried to convince me to stay, and so I frustrated, took out my wallet and gave her cab fare and wished her a good night. I drove back to our apartment and went to bed. At 2am the bar closed and she texted me to pick her up. I said no, I'm in bed. You had your chance for a ride home, take a cab. She flips the fuck out. Calling me every name in the book, telling me we're over blah blah blah, drunk chick stuff. I ignore it. She finally gets home and storms into the room yelling that I left her in the cold to die. She tears the cover off the bed telling me to get out of "her" bed and sleep in the living room on the couch. I refuse, because this is rediculous. She starts ripping my clothes out of the closet breaking tha hangers and generally trashing my shit. I told her if she didnt stop that I would call the cops. So of course she called the cops crying and told them I had weapons in the house and that she wants them to take me away. So I'm thinking I'm going to die over this shit now, so i start recording on my phone and get on my knees and wait with my hands on my head. The cops come in and see me, and since i put them at ease they interview me calmly and I tell them the situation. They ask if I had somewhere to go and I said yes so they let me grab a bag and go to my dads while she cools down. So yeah, saying no isn't always an option with crazy.

[–]sample_size_of_on1 163 points164 points165 points 9 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Anyone else see what happened here?

Chick was violent crazy. He was cool calm and collective. He was asked if HE had anywhere to go. HE was the one that had to leave.

Fuck that.

[–]Cocoa-nut-Cum 78 points79 points80 points 9 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Yep, both names were on the lease and as the female cop who interviewed me walked me to the cruiser she looked to her partner and said "so he's the victem eh?" And they gave me a ride to my dads house while we talked about relationship advice. RCMP are nice to talk to, but sexism is still institutionalized nonetheless.

[–]dukunt 41 points42 points43 points 9 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

My exwife used to call the RCMP on me regularly. I was alway calm, cool and honest with them and I never laid a hand on my wife. The RCMP were equally respectful of me. And they did take my wife away once after a fight. Not me.

[–]KaiRaiUnknown 23 points24 points25 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Sounds like she did you a solid.

You don't wanna be somewhere that crazy bitch can get you alone and start accusing you of all sorts of shit. If your dad is there - instant witness.

[–]Cocoa-nut-Cum 23 points24 points25 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Yeah I never forgave her behaviour that night. She moved to another city shortly after and I couldn't be happier that she's someone else's problem now.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I had to go back to your original post and double check you said "ex" after reading the first line of this post

[–]orcscorper 14 points15 points16 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

"I don't need to have somewhere to go. I'll be staying right here, while the crazy bitch sleeps it off in the drunk tank", is what I would say in my head, wishing I lived in a world where I could say it out loud and it would be true.

[–]bakedpotato486 17 points18 points19 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

They asked you if you had anywhere to go? Fuck that! The police should've taken her to a fine, hard bed between four cement walls!

[–]DanBMan 77 points78 points79 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

[–]Alt-Right_is_rising 11 points12 points13 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

What's she gonna do, choke-slam you?

She could call the police, claim domestic violence, you get a free ride to jail for the night, a stained background check for all future job applications, and the loss of your gun rights forever. Then she could probably lean on the DV charge in divorce court to railroad you even harder.

[–]AloysiusC 7 points8 points9 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

What's she gonna do, choke-slam you?

If you're expecting violence then I don't care how much bigger you are, you absolutely do not sleep next to that person.

[–]Toomuchgamin 3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I practice that. You're angry you go sleep elsewhere.

[–]Kronik_NinjaLo 7 points8 points9 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

For real. I refuse to sleep on the couch because I was told to. My couch is comfy as fuck, but I have told my gf before that I feel respect in the relationship is not equal if she tries that on me. I wouldn't do it to her.

Isn't it awesome how she was able to find happiness again? Also in such a short time. And with his brother!!! Sometimes the universe just aligns perfectly for some people.

And God bless her friends for praising her for finding happiness again!!!

In case some people don't get it... I'm being sarcastic.

[–]samsc2 41 points42 points43 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

holy shit absolutely. She was using the "him working too much" as an excuse to have fights to destroy the relationship.

[–]heimdahl81 24 points25 points26 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

The Somerset mum claims a post-mortem revealed Mikey choked in his sleep but that the cause behind it was “inconclusive”.

That is what I was looking for. Nothing suspicious at all about a guy that is healthy enough to work 16 hour days just stopping breathing. No need for further investigation to look for foul play.

[–]I_love_black_girls 6 points7 points8 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

She could have killed him, or it could have been suicide. Imagine how stressful and mentally taxing working 16s must be only to come home and have his wife start and argument and 'make' him sleep on the couch. I'm sure his mental state wasn't very healthy at that point. He might have felt like 'what's the point?' and said fuck it and killed himself.

[–]Moonyu69 7 points8 points9 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

What else could she do when her husband "abandoned" her by working 16 hours a day? She's the real victim here.

[–]EeeeeeevilMan 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You know, when I opened the comments, I thought the top comment calling her a villain was a little harsh.

Nope. Fuck this bitch.

Sketchy as fuck, too. I wonder if the cops did a thorough autopsy on the guy.

[–]splodgenessabounds 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You'd think the brother at least would be wiser, or at least more empathetic.

Empathy among siblings is how things work most of the time for most people.

But not all of the time, nor for everyone.

[–]thwml 16 points17 points18 points 9 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I love how they paint her as the victim

He works 16 hours a day for kids and so she can be a "beauty therapist" - with a whopping 18k average salary, albeit she was probably also being a mom @ home considering how young the children were.

He looked tired all the time - so she mad him sleep on the couch.

Yeah she seems like an entitled princess.

That being said, he clearly loved her and if you want to respect his wishes, I'm gonna go ahead and say don't attack her. He wouldn't want that.

Seriously? I don't think he'd want his wife to reap sympathy while she fucks his brother two months after he dies.

He clearly loved her? He may have worked so much just to be away from her.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I don't think this actually was a healthy relationship, who the hell knows what was actually going on in the relationship? If she's bad enough to do this, surely she must have done some other scum of the earth shit. If I was in the relationship and it had gone realistically, that is with a big helping of manipulative and emotionally abusive undertones, at that point I would have realized her true colours and done something about it. For this poor fellow, that something seemed to be killing himself. I don't believe this "healthy guy randomly decided to stop breathing in his sleep" bullshit. Her story sounds overly dramatized too, it sounds like she's trying to take attention away from what actually happened and put on her. Honestly that's pretty typical.

If I was a ghost and posthumously found out she was fucking my brother after that, I would haunt the shit out of her.

[–]JoelTLoUisBadass 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I don't know about that, If there's an after life and I was him I would probably be looking for a way to comeback and hunt those backstabbing assholes into insanity.

[–]OverWorkedCorpse 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Really?! No normal person would act they way she did towards him and on top of that get into a relationship with his brother who's just as fucked up as her because you don't go with your brothers wife after he dies unless you're a piece of shit and already fucking her the whole time your brother is working himself to the grave for her.

[–]FissureKing 6 points7 points8 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I never sleep on the couch. If she is mad enough let her go sleep on the couch. It seems she is never that mad.

[–]Bisexual-Bop-It 5 points6 points7 points 9 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

In the article it says she was angry because she knew he was working too hard and wanted him to stop, which is pretty ironic, but at the very least she wasnt just arguing with him for the sake of arguing, she was expressing concern and got angry cause it involved a person she loves.

[–]pacmatt27 7 points8 points9 points 9 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah... So when I'm worried about how hard my gf is working I don't call her a bitch and try to make her sleep on the sofa. I say I'm worried about her, and that I love her. I talk to her... Try to see what's wrong or if there's anything I can do. Even if I get angry I make it clear that my anger is from frustration at feeling powerless. I try my best to reach a resolution. I don't strut around telling her she doesn't get to be with me that night because I'm so fantastic I deserve the bed. I certainly don't start fucking her sister two months after she dies.

[–]IAmTheDos 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

And with no one to corroborate that story, everyone is just going to go along with it. No way she would lie about the petty argument that got her husband killed. Certainly not in a way that makes her look better as a person.

Should only be a few days until the accusations of abuse start popping up.

I'm all for men's rights but there is no villain here. She was angry because he wasn't balancing his work/home ratio properly. Overworking was clearly affecting his health. This is a reasonable argument for a couple to have. It's just a tragedy. What it has to do with Men's rights I'm not sure.

[–]DyceFreak 24 points25 points26 points 9 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

She was angry because he wasn't balancing his work/home ratio properly.

Concern; concern is the emotion you're looking for to legitimize your argument, not anger. Trying to justify anger in place of concern in this scenario means your entire line of thinking towards relationships is hugely flawed. She had absolutely no right to get angry. Her flaky and uncontrollable emotions were offloaded onto him after a long day's work and that killed him.

[+]MassSpecFella -14 points-13 points-12 points 9 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Her flaky emotions killed him? I didn't know that was possible.

[–]DyceFreak 8 points9 points10 points 9 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Or that's what they planned out? I have relatives that do the same, he decided he would start a business and she would take care of the kids, she gave up her career for him to do that and takes care of the kids because he doesn't have the time, people choose to lead different kinds of lives then the ones you think they need to

[–]CUNTRY 7 points8 points9 points 9 years ago (16 children) | Copy Link

yah for sure. it sounds like she was really keeping up her end of the bargain if that was the case here...

Somehow I don't think your example applies to this situation.

[+]cabose4prez -9 points-8 points-7 points 9 years ago (15 children) | Copy Link

How could you possibly gather that from the article? It could be the exact same scenario or it could not, the article does not go into detail about how they lived there life, people just immediatly assumed that she was using him, people on this sub are so afraid of women that it's not healthy. It's not about mens rights, this story isn't I should say, we don't know how they treated eachother, they just had an argument and that happens to every couple, but instead of realizing that you all immediatly attacked this woman for using her husband a "slave" and somehow think its ok. This sub can be so fucked up.

[–]CUNTRY 6 points7 points8 points 9 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

did we read the same article??

this woman made herself the victim in the story around 10 fucking times!!!

this is the most ridiculous part...

I blacked out and had to be carried back into the house by neighbours. It felt so surreal, I couldn’t process it. I didn’t feel like he was dead, I felt like he had left me.

Are you actually retarded or what?

[–]Aivias 3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Funny, isnt it? That she doesnt collapse there and then but finds the strength, effort and time to run into the street in hysterics so that when the inevitable questioning comes around the neighbours would be all "wow, she really took that hard, the poor thing" when to me this sounds like a case for Miss Marple.

[–]cabose4prez -5 points-4 points-3 points 9 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Yeah when my father died my mother pretty much had the same reaction, if you have never lost a member of the family like that I imagine you wouldn't quite understand the feelings that flood your body.

[–]CUNTRY 9 points10 points11 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Yah for sure dude. You start to realize that the gravy train is over and then you think about yourself. Not your kids or your dead husband. You think about how YOU feel.

I imagine you know exactly how it feels am I right?

My mother didn't react that way when my father died. Not at all. She thought of EVERYONE before herself - so fuck you.

[–]cabose4prez 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Except my mother worked and had me ont he way so my father wasn't a free ride for her dipshit.

Is it exactly how everyone feels? Ofcourse not you twat, but everyone reacts differently, everyone deals with death differently, some people cry, some people keep a stone face, some people lose themselves, to say her reaction wasn't genuine is ridiculous though as you don't know her and only see her through an article

[–]Ixz72[S] 5 points6 points7 points 9 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

The point of me sharing this article as a "men's right" is the way a man is treated after he is giving so much for the family. He comes home from a 16 hour shift and the wife chooses argue with him, because she was concerned? Really? Arguments between couples happen yes. But not when you see the other is in an extreme disadvantage (in this case exhaustion).

Not to make light of the situation, but watch Chris Rock's shtick called "The big piece of chicken".

[–]majortom22 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Halfway through this food fight The Big Piece of Chicken came to mind

[–]cabose4prez -1 points0 points1 point 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Arguments happen in relationships, you can't blame the death of this man on their argument, if that was the case there would be a hell of a lot less people on this earth. Being concerned for someone and arguing with them about it happen all the time, my grandparents did it when my grandfather wouldn't take his insulin, why? Because he was killing himself by not doing it.

[–]Ixz72[S] 4 points5 points6 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Please point out where I blame the death of the man on the argument? I didn't. If I pointed out anything it was how poorly he was treated by his wife.

As far as the insulin thing, not really apples for apples. If your grandfather was within his full faculties it is not the same. The timing of the argument is what is lost on you. Say you're grandfather went into sugar shock and your grandmother yelled at him for forgetting to take his insulin while having his episode instead of tending to him.

It's the proverbial "kicking a man when he is down".

[–]cabose4prez 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

How did his wife treat him poorly? They had an argument, that happens in real life, what do you expect?

Sugar shock an exhaustion are very different, unless he was on medication at the time a sleep deprived exhaustion is nothing compared to sugar shock when you are no longer coherant at all.

She didn't kick him while he was down, they argued, she argued he argued it happens, the lose of a mans life is terrible, the fact that there is now a single mother with 3 kids is terrible, but there are assumptions all over this sub that she used him for his money only and that she didn't care for him which is completely insane.

[–]Aivias 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

she gave up her career for him

Fuck off. 80% of women would be much happier not having to work. Speak to some normie women, not the men you get LARPing as women on reddit, real ones. They all would much rather not work but do so because they have some self-respect and the understanding that its required in the modern world.

Edit 2: And don't pretend that he had any choice but to go on the couch. If she wanted she could have easily had him in jail overnight if she were so inclined. He didn't just put himself on the couch. If he insisted in staying in his own bed people would be calling him abusive for not following her wishes.

[–]OverWorkedCorpse 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Either you've never been in a relationship or you've got your head stuck up your arse. No one in a healthy adult relationship uses anger and punishment when discussing their concern for a partners health. Yes she's a villain. She said herself that she knew he was overworking himself but instead got angry at him and banished him to the sofa when he was clearly exhausted. Get your head out your arse and engage your brain for a change.

[–]Funklestein -2 points-1 points0 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

You're correct and there is some serious talking points from the He-man Woman Haters Club in here. He chose to literally work himself to death so he could take his family on nice vacations which is laudable but really kind of stupid. She actually shows concern for his health and has a moment of minor regrettable behavior and is painted as a monster. He'd be alive and happier if he just went to Disney every other year.

Pick your battles guys, this one is a loser. I say this as a guy who got screwed over and raised my kids myself and that guy made his own choices.

[–]orcscorper 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

She was so concerned for his health that she made him sleep on the couch? She should have given him a massage with a happy ending to help him relax, and fall asleep in his own fucking bed that he fucking paid for by working 16-hour fucking shifts. But, no. It's all about her. He worked himself to death, and she "feels like he left her". Selfish cunt.

[–]instinctivechopstick 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Not to mention that if at the very least she had let him sleep in his own bed, there was actually a chance she could have saved him. I started choking in my sleep only a few weeks ago and it didn't wake me up, however it did wake my husband up as he was right there beside me. He was able to wake me up and help me out, but if I had kicked him out on the couch for any reason then maybe I would have ended up in the same position as this guy. Of course, there is a chance as well she wouldn't have been able to do anything at all, but as someone concerned for the health and wellbeing of my partner, I would rather have had the small chance of being able to be there and help him than no chance at all.

[–]silverhand21 -1 points0 points1 point 9 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

...this story has no villain. He is dead, she did not kill him, the death and fight are unrelated. This is a story about nothing. With nothing connected. It is a story of 3 unrelated details, work alot, argument at home, death. The first two are related the third is not. I feel bad for her. She lost her husband who it would seem she loved quite a bit and he her. Now he is gone because of God knows why and she has to raise their twins who may never remember their dad. And you sit here calling her a villain? This sub needs less about posts like this and more TRUE men's rights issues.

[–]samsc2 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

The story has a HUGE villain, HER. SHE was cheating on him, pushed him to over work himself, forced him to sleep on the couch after starting a fight all so she could try to sabotage the relationship since she was cheating on him. SHE was the villain and it's just pathetic that the story tries to play her off as some victim instead of the villain.

[–]silverhand21 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Where in the article does it say she was cheating on him? Where in the article does it say she pushed him to overwork himself? Please use quotes. beauty therapist Mrs Murrell

The fuck is a 'beauty therapist'?

I guarantee you it wasn't paying enough to help out. Which is why he's having to work so hard to provide.

[–]yvaN_ehT_nioJ 25 points26 points27 points 9 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

I was about to ask that. Since you asked that, I decided to look it up.

Apparently "Beauty Therapists are experts in therapeutic facial and body care, with a strong understanding of key body systems, skin biology, anatomy and cosmetic chemistry. Using this knowledge, Beauty Therapists provide a range of non-medical face, body and relaxation treatments customised to a client’s needs, and recommend appropriate products and after-care. While Beauty Therapists can perform therapies to address specific conditions such as acne or eczema, they do not diagnose these conditions."

So a spa worker, essentially.

[–][deleted] 11 points12 points13 points 9 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

I know terminology probably varies by region, but calling her a "beauty therapist" was definitely a stretch in my opinion. I literally do all of the same things and I'm just an "Esthetician" and a nail tech. And they're called treatments, not therapies, what the hell...

[–]yvaN_ehT_nioJ 8 points9 points10 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

For real. When I think of a "therapist" I think of the person I've occasionally had to see for various issues re: mental health. Not...getting my nails done. Not to devalue that, but comparing it to therapy is a biiit much.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Agreed. My teachers from college would probably be very displeased as well if someone compared our training to actual therapy. We can help someone feel pampered, calm, and rejuvinated, and there are things in our trade like "floatation therapy", but they're just for aesthetics and luxury, NOT medicine.

“When he came home that night he was a mess, I have never seen him so exhausted. I couldn’t stand seeing him like that and I got angry. I was sick of it."

Yeah, fuck him for being exhausted, right?

"I didn’t feel like he was dead, I felt like he had left me."

It's totally his fault he died, and she's the victim. Women have always been the primary victims of war. They lose their husbands, their brothers, their sons...

"Losing Mikey has changed my entire perspective on life. Life is too short to go to bed angry and not to spend every moment you can with your family"

Sometimes your family has to spend time away in order to make the rest of you happier in the long run, but that kind of behavior is just selfish.

Then there's this:

“Even when he was at his worst he would push himself with work and any time he had off he’d be doing everything with the kids."

So he was doing exactly what you wanted him to do...

“I knew something like this was going to happen, I knew he was doing too much but you can never prepare yourself for this."

Yep, fuck her. She still hasn't learned anything.

Finally and excuse to tell my tale!

I use to work a night shift. 6pm till 6am. I couldn't sleeo for shit during the day.

My roommate broken his arm and had these percocets that weren't working for him.

I discovered after having a couple beers and one of those I would sleep like a baby. Seriously best sleep in my life.

One day I got a bit too tipsy and took one. I had the craziest dream where I was walking around my house and decides to goto my room.

Lo and behold I was looking at myself sleeping and thought to myself 'oh fuck.'

Right after that thought it felt like someone had hit me in the chest with a sledge hammer. My whole body was tingly and i was gasping for air.

I don't do that anymore and or ever again.

Tldr; dont drink and take percocets.

[–]adamdavid85 14 points15 points16 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It could be quite a few things. I'm not implying it's more likely than not that she is to blame, I was just expecting something like a heart attack or stroke. Not "inconclusive" asphyxia.

This is a man who laid down his life for his family. Not on purpose, and not all at once, but still, respect is due.

She may or may not have been a heartless partner. All we really know about that is she was cruel to him because she was worried about him. But this is not about her. It's about a guy who gave away every last bit it was possible to give.

He deserves hats off and a minute of silence from us all.

[–]IAmTheDos 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

All we really know about that is she was cruel to him because she was worried about him

How do we know that? Is that what he told us? No? Oh right, because he's dead. We only have one side of the story, and will only ever have one side of the story, because he's dead.

The only surviving witness is someone with a vested interest in not appearing like a huge sack of shit to the rest of the world. And considering that she forbade her husband from sleeping in his own bed after a 16 hour day, she already has work to do on that front.

So take anything she says with a huge grain of salt, especially if she's trying to put herself in a good light or appear as the real victim.

I give it even odds she eventually accuses him of abuse too.

Edit:

This is a man who laid down his life for his family. Not on purpose, and not all at once, but still, respect is due.

“When he came home that night he was a mess, I have never seen him so exhausted. I couldn’t stand seeing him like that and I got angry.

There is no need to mischaracterize Mrs Murrell's position on the whole thing. The argument was over stopping the thing that was killing him.

The story stands on its own wrt social expectations and men's willingness to sacrfice themselves for their families without trying to make her out as the bad guy for caring about that exact thing.

There is no need to mischaracterize Mrs Murrell's position on the whole thing. The argument was over stopping the thing that was killing him.

This is not how you get someone to slow down and it's not a compassionate response to get angry after the 16 hour shift. I work long days sometimes, my girlfriend worries about my health and well being, she doesn't get angry and make me sleep on the couch. If anything she's extra nice when I've had a long day. Furthermore, if there is to be any discussion about it, it should be after the guy has had some sleep. Nothing is going to get through when you're that tired and if anything it's going to turn into a much angrier argument than necessary. People are cranky when they're tired.

without trying to make her out as the bad guy for caring about that exact thing.

Nope, she's an asshole. She's not responsible for his death obviously, that seems to have been entirely accidental, but she's an asshole and her response to him working long hours is not an appropriate one after a long shift.

[–]FeierInMeinHose 13 points14 points15 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

She's also an asshole because instead of attempting to take some of the burden off of him by also getting a second job, or just flat out telling him that he doesn't need to give the family a destination vacation every year, she just lets him work himself to death while getting mad that he's never around but still sucking on the teet of his labor. Completely self-centered and oblivious to the source of her lifestyle all the while.

I'm probably just making logical leaps that aren't supported, though, I just can't help but be angry when some guy works himself to death and the woman doesn't blame herself for not helping but instead says shit like "don't go to bed angry". Anger isn't what killed him, all that not going to bed angry would have done is make her feel better.

[–]BernieSandersgirl101 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]workerdaemon 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

People seem to default to try to "force" their way through aggressive tactics. It's sadly a pervasive phenomenon across society. But a lot of times approaching an issue more gently or from a different direction altogether is actually more effective.

[–]Oompa-Loompa-Do 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It might not have been the first time they had that discussion, she might have just "lost it" that time and got mad at him before he could rest.

But yeah telling the guy who just worked a double shift to sleep on the couch while you're using the bed is an asshole move.

[–]blackxxwolf3 9 points10 points11 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

theres other ways to handle it without arguing with the man. maybe take him to the goddamn hospital! at the very least let him have the bed. make her sleep on the couch.

[–]bakedpotato486 4 points5 points6 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If she cared about him at all she'd make sure he'd rest well instead of sending him to sleep on a god damn couch. But no, all she cared about was herself, that's why she started sucking on her brother-in-law's wallet within two months.

[–]IAmTheDos 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You are assuming that she is telling the truth about the argument that got her husband killed. The argument that she is the only surviving participant of. The fight could very well have been about anything, her cheating on him with his brother, her not working enough so he has to overcompensate, shape-shifting lizard men, anything!

Of course, after he dies presumably from overwork, she says the argument was about his work and health. How amazing! She's so smart and kind, it's like she knew what would happen! What a good wife! If only that stupid man had listened to her, she would have had no need to punish him! Maybe he would still be alive if he never disobeyed orders. Definitely not her fault, no no no, not in anyway. She said so!

Happy wife, stay alive.

I'm sorry but I disagree.

I have been in a similar situation. I work from home and there are times that I get so busy that I end up working 10-12 hours a day.

Just last week, me and the girlfriend were going away for the weekend so I decided to work a few more hours so we would have some extra money for our get away.

I took on more work than I expected and Thursday and Friday I was swamped. I worked 13 hours on Thursday.

Girlfriend got home from work and got upset that I haven't prepared anything for dinner. I was still working so I ordered pizza. After dinner she asked if I could vacuum before I left the house to pick her up from work.

I told her I will try since I had a very full plate before I had to leave and she let out a loud sigh and said "I'll do it myself then".

[–]FeierInMeinHose 7 points8 points9 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Did you actually explicitly tell your girlfriend that you took extra hours so you had more money for your trip? It seems like if she still acts that way even when she knows you're busting your ass for her then you need to drop her because she doesn't actually respect you as a person, you're just a means to the end that is her material happiness.

[–]Ixz72[S] 7 points8 points9 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I didn't say it did. But the point I was making was the way a man is treated.

[+]Strelock -6 points-5 points-4 points 9 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Sure, I get it. But by the same token some men expect their wives to have a full dinner cooked and the house cleaned every night after both of them spent all day at work. It's a give and take in any relationship, and I'm sure this woman was frustrated at her husband for in her eyes choosing to not be around. I could see how that would make someone angry. Sure yelling at him was not called for but I can't really hold her responsible for what happened to him. Emotions can get the best of you in these situations, especially when it seems like you're just passing each other by on the way to and from work.

But the point I was making was the way a man is treated.

This to me seems a lot like your complaining about the female version of mansplaining. Aren't we trying to "rise above" the typical bigoted feminazi type language and reactions in this movement? I mean, you're complaining that your girlfriend expressed her exasperation to you and then did what she asked you to do. I guess maybe from my upbringing or just my general mindset as a man wouldn't really let me seriously complain about something like that and seeing it in a male focused sub just kinda set me off. Maybe I'm old fashioned, but I'd like to think being a man involves being a little thicker skinned than that. Or maybe it's just that I've been married so long that I think getting my panties in a wad over something like that is just a little bit... not manly? My wife and I speak our minds to own another in the understanding that even though we love each other sometimes we've just got to be honest.

But then again, my wife wouldn't sigh at me if I told her I just straight up didn't want to vacuum in the first place.

Plus I'm confused how your girlfriend got home from work and was upset that you didn't have dinner ready and then asked you to vacuum before you picked her up from work. That timeline makes no sense.

Girlfriend got home from work and got upset that I haven't prepared anything for dinner. I was still working so I ordered pizza. After dinner she asked if I could vacuum before I left the house to pick her up from work.

Thanks for the downvote btw, much appreciated. Sorry for calling it like I see it.

My husband and I have these discussions all the time. He keeps trying to overwork himself and I keep trying to get him to pull back a bit and take care of himself. Sometimes I'll go so far as to dragging him to the couch and putting his favorite TV show on! He can't resist and it gets him to relax for a few hours.

We talk about what he's working on and why and try to explore ways he can pull back, or point out what isn't that important, or how I can step in and help him out.

Unfortunately, our society likes to try to force things on others through yelling, punishment, etc. And unfortunately it looks like this woman fell into that same trap -- trying to reduce his workload by... yelling at and punishing him? It's incredibly illogical in hindsight, but humans are rarely logical.

Society didn't make her yell at him. She did that on her own.

Don't work too hard to make this society's fault, or she'll yell at that too.

The culture we're raised in shapes our impulses. We don't break out of it until we become aware enough to realize what's happening, and then work hard to break those bad habits.

[–]ISOanexplanation 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

How about you start by breaking your bad habit of excusing nasty female abusiveness as a "trap" women "fall into".

Would you ever excuse an abusive husband by mischaracterizing his abusiveness as him having been the victim of falling into a trap? Nah, I just really can't picture that.

[–]workerdaemon 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Understanding why people do the things they do is not excusing the things they do. Understanding why is the first step towards figuring out how to prevent or encourage something.

The culture we're raised in shapes our impulses

Stop blaming other people for your character flaws.

When someone goes to a therapist to get over issues that result from poor childhood experiences they dont turn you into a victim of the situation, they point out how your character managed to overcome that situation and get you to congratulate yourself on doing so. What you are doing is claiming that people have no agency, no personal responsibility because 'society' made you.

This insipid, pathetic worldview is why we are failing.

This usually happens around the time someone learns to walk and talk. People are responsible for their own actions.

You simply want to minimize her responsibility in her husbands death. Stop sugar coating it.

Reminds me of my ex-gf's father. He worked 12-15 hours every single day at a warehouse to support his wife's crazy extravagant lifestyle. Oh both of their kids are over 20 and have moved out? She wants a new 5 bedroom house in the new neighborhood of mcmansions that just opened up for just the 2 of them even though their current house was 5 years from being paid off. She had to have the newest BMW every single year. Lots and lots of jewelry, etc.

So turns out while he was working, she was bringing home random guys and fucking them in their own house. WTF?? When she was caught the excuse was the typical "You're never home!! I never see you!! Blah blah blah" well if he didn't have to work so much to support you then he would be home!

It just makes no sense to me. The guy was working his ass off for her, why couldn't she appreciate that and support him? Like how much of a fucked up person do you have to be to take that shit for granted? Still makes me mad thinking about it to this day.

This is why you always get suspicious when a spouse/s.o. makes very significant demands on you.

They're never happy and will always blame you, while being treacherous.

In my opinion its far fetched to blame her for his death. Of course the way she approached it was totally wrong, but are not to blame for his death. She said she wanted him to work less.

The problem is that he felt the need to do that, do you think its the wives fault?

[–]franklindeer 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It wasn't that long ago that spending that kind of money when you still have to work those kinds of shifts would have been considered irresponsible. That kind of effort was historically used either just to get by, or to get ahead so you could stop doing what you were doing by investing in a business or paying off a house. I don't fault the guy for his choices, but they're not smart choices long term and the thousands of dollars spent on vacations to make everyone happy could have been used to buy into a business or take time from work to retrain in something with better pay and hours, which would then afford a better lifestyle down the road.

And with no one to corroborate that, why do we believe her?

She saw him exhausted, and punished him for it. He died because of it. Do you really think she going to come out saying she feels responsible? That she handled it poorly? That she took him for granted?

No! She is going to say how she totally saw this coming but he wouldn't listen! She is going to say she was concerned for his health. She is going to imply that she is the real victim here!

She honestly admits she "had a go at him" then lies by claiming it was over how hard he was working for her and their kids. Yeah, right.

I was in a similarly abusive marriage for years, doing 60-80 hours a week (plus commute) but I got a divorce and survived. My daughter being the most important person in my life I ended up sticking around years past that marriage's expiration date.

I normally hate the expression, "He's in a better place now," but in this case it might just be applicable.

I understand being angry because someone is working themselves to death. In the months leading up to our daughter's birth my boyfriend worked himself ragged and I was always telling him to rest and relax because it was impacting his health, physically and mentally.

But I never told him he couldn't sleep in his own fucking bed. If I had you can bet he would have tossed me out onto the couch, and I would have deserved it.

[–]Chezemunky747 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Unpopular opinion. If you don't have time to spend with your family. Don't work so much, even if you're working for your family. As a father and husband you need to prioritize. Disneyland is not that important. You can do cheap things and have great relationships by just spending time together instead of working yourself (literally to death) because you think the money is that important.

[–]RobDog101 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Literally worked to death. I'd expect this here in America tbh, since we really don't have any respect for the necessity of sleep anymore. I guess I'm naive: every country still condones this barbarism no matter how much noise they make on workers' rights. Maybe we need to start focusing on the fact that it is a public health hazard; repeatedly getting that little sleep is no different from being blind fucking drunk all the time.

[–]mwobuddy 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Well, you're not entitled by any laws to a personal life. If you willingly choose to work long shifts, that's on you. If you don't get enough sleep, that's also on you because you either choose to work very long shifts that end up giving you onlty 6 hours a night to sleep right when you get off work, or you choose to do other things with your time inbetween job and sleep, and therefore its your choice and your fault.

[–]RobDog101 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

You could make the same argument against literally any workplace regulation. "Well if someone's willing to work under these conditions..."

[–]mwobuddy 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

I know. That's kind of my point.

Where we draw the line is all up for grabs. I've said before in other places, there's no such natural 'human rights'.

In the jungle, rights simply don't exist. They are more like entitlements, because they are claims of what a person SHOULD get, gotten either through huge political upheaval, or, more commonly, actual deadly force (revolution, civil war, uprising).

Companies want this:

You work longer hours to make them more money. You work for less wages, to make them more money (where your working for less does actually make the owners/CEOs/whatever more money because the income of the company doesn't have to be split more 'fairly'). You work alongside less staff, to make them more money (because getting rid of workers and giving a higher workload to individuals also does the same as number 2).

They are constantly seeking this, while having to toe that line of worker's rights violations.

People think that because of books like "the jungle" and the worker rights revolution, that companies suddenly became 'nice and benign' and stopped looking at the bottom line.

The highly suspect and completely unverifiable claim that she threw him out of his bedroom because he was "working too hard" jibes with some of our own relationships with abusive women. Your assumption that she saw him as a "human being" is no more valid than my assumption that she didn't give a damn about him outside of what resources he provided her with. This story belongs in this sub because feminism and traditionalism work very hard together to erase both female abusers and male victims.

What I see is a staggeringly obvious non sequitur.

A: Husband comes home beat to shit from overwork.

B: Wife gets angry at him. Has "a go at him". Subsequently makes him sleep on the couch.

C: Wife claims it was her deep concern for his well-being that caused her to abuse him in this way.

My own confirmation bias tells me she's lying her ass off. Yours tells you she's telling the truth. What I don't get is why you'd be in this sub if your own bias is that women don't lie about their own abusiveness.

And they say chivalry is dead.

Fair enough. And I think one of the "societal norms" most in need of being corrected is they way women are assumed to be honest and men aren't. I don't mean you, as you've already stated that your benefit of the doubt is genderless. In our current feminism-dominated public sphere suspecting female meretriciousness is sexism but men who lie are just being the dogs they are. Same with crime, where the hallowed presumption of innocence is somehow significantly more robust for women. It all flows from the empathy gap; something I consider to be the greatest remaining form of unaddressed sexism.

[–]ISOanexplanation 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yes. And not just as you said "more ready" but the vast bulk of empathy's follow-through actions that we do individually and as a society—understanding, forgiveness and generosity—are accorded to females alone. Criminal justice systems here in the west are a good place to start noticing this empathy gap. The scales really fell from my eyes when I learned that all the big feminist drums they pound such as rape and domestic violence are statistically much closer to gender parity between perps and victims than any feminist/traditionalist would ever believe.

There is a proper time and place to pick your battles with your SO and she just chose wrong on both accounts. He was also denied to rest in his own bed. None of that was OK or acceptable on her part, nor should it be in ANY relationship, but really that's my only personal gripe against her. In the end she still lost a husband, their kids lost their father, and their families lost a son, brother, cousin, nephew, friend, etc. It's a very sad story and I feel terrible for Mikey especially. I wish they could have done things differently so maybe he wouldn't have been so miserable.

But, you make a very good point. We don't actually know if she made zero efforts to make things better for both of them because the article doesn't talk about that. Maybe she did try to get a second job, but maybe he discouraged her? Maybe no one would hire her? Or maybe having a second job just didn't work with their schedule? Hell, maybe he just flat out refused to work less? I can see why someone would feel frustrated if their SO just wasn't listening to them or working with them. But I also think for many men who have been in similar situations like Mikey's -- or even very abusive ones -- that it just hit too close to home for them, hence some of the hostility we see in this thread. There are many women who would gladly take advantage of someone like Mikey and some men in this sub have had the unfortunate experience of dealing with them.

I agree with you, however, that our primary focus should be on the male disposability issue. Mikey overworked himself and he apparently either felt pressured or he pressured himself to do it and that is absolutely something that MRAs should focus on: bettering lives for men everywhere who find themselves in this type of mindset or situation because MEN DESERVE TO BE VALUED and NOT feel disposable or like THEIR HAPPINESS doesn't matter. Because it damn well DOES.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Downvote me, but everyone is taking this story far too hard against the woman.

Yes, she shouldn't have started an argument with her husband after he had been working forever, but everyone does stupid things. You get mad because you care about them.

Does a parent feel bad because they screamed at their toddler in anger (fear) when they go towards the edge of a pool? Of course, but they do it for a reason, because they care about them.

Let's not circle jerk hate just because this woman fucked up. She feels horrible about it, no reason to be antagonistic. Horrible situation for her and I feel bad, sue me.

[–]bakedpotato486 4 points5 points6 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's the context though. Seriously, if she's so mad at him for working himself to an early grave, why send him to sleep on the couch? Did you read the article? Her words:

"When he came home that night he was a mess, I have never seen him so exhausted. I couldn’t stand seeing him like that and I got angry. I was sick of it.

"I had a go at him and told him to sleep on the sofa which was stupid because I really just wanted him around more."

She had told him that she was worried he was running himself into the ground

Ok, good so far. Wife worried for her Husband's health, if we just look at this bit.

and told her husband to sleep on the sofa for the night when they failed to resolve the dispute.

Excuse me, what? So you say that you clearly saw that your husband was having problems... so you add to his problems?

And I would really like to be the fly on the wall on how that dispute went. 20 bucks say it was 'You are never here for us.' instead of 'You are working yourself to death, please stop.'

Even more tragically, she later discovered that Mr Murrell was working extra shifts as a carpet cleaner so that he cold save money to take her to Prague for their anniversary on July 3.

He would work 16-hour shifts, seven days a week just so he could save up enough to take us all to Disney every year. He was so worn out but he would do anything just to see us smile.

But the hours he was working were just getting too much. He was so exhausted all the time and he was running himself into the ground and his health was going downhill fast.

When he came home that night he was a mess, I have never seen him so exhausted. I couldn’t stand seeing him like that and I got angry. I was sick of it.

Ok, so she didn't know about that first one, but it never occurred to her to just go to her 'beloved' husband and say 'Honey stop, we don't need to go to Disneyland every year'. I mean, I guess props to her for noticing, but that aint worth jack if you then do nothing.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

C: Wife claims it was her deep concern for his well-being that caused her to abuse him in this way.

Why do you make me hit you/verbally abuse you? I only do it because I care so much about you, and Im angry that you're working too hard and hurting yourself.

If the article showed that this was a pattern that was repeated, then maybe your argument would have some merit. It didn't, and it doesn't.

[–]mwobuddy 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

So one-off abuse is fine?

everybody gets one murder.

Yes, straw man, that's exactly what I'm saying. I'm sorry you feel that someone hurt you. Try not to project your feelings into the experiences of others.

Anyone who's not completely simple minded or naive knows that behaviors are like cockroaches. Where you see one, there's always more.

People are creatures of habit.

I was merely treating your comment with the derision it deserved.

I'm sorry you feel that someone hurt you.

If feelings don't matter, then there's no such thing as emotional/verbal abuse.

[–]ISOanexplanation 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

It's only offensive to you because you've never been an abused husband or boyfriend. Those of us who recognize the pattern do so from personal experience. As a feminist you should know better than to deny someone's experience.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That is an awful lot of assumptions. There are nowhere near enough facts in this article to show any kind of a pattern. You're calling me a feminist, but you appear to be the one who is well practiced in feminist tactics.

[–]marks1995 3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I sort of felt the same as you...until reading down and finding the link to the article where she hooked up with his brother 2 months after he died.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

At least that is a fair criticism, and it's the first I've seen. The article wasn't linked when I commented, and none of the criticism of her referenced it at that time. Even so, though, I'm not sure that justifies pillorying her over her husband's death.

[–]marks1995 3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I think it speaks to her character. At first, I believed she probably really felt sorry about his death. But moving on with his brother after 2 months just gives me the impression that she is a "me" person and probably contributed more to his working himself to death then she is letting on.

I have no basis for that feeling. Just a gut impression of her.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

It certainly doesn't look good, but they also just lost a person who may have been the closest person to both of them. It stands to reason that they might spend a lot of time together. With their emotions already likely being pretty raw, it seems plausible that this might be the result of them providing comfort for each other. I just can't get behind the idea that she is the villain here.

[–]marks1995 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I don't disagree that they would spend a lot of time together and comfort each other. But to be able to put his memory aside after two months to emotionally and physically commit to another man?

I'm married with children and while nobody knows what they would do, I'm almost certain I wouldn't be able to move on to another woman two months after my wife passed away.

[–]cabose4prez -2 points-1 points0 points 9 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, the sub has come around to just attacking women for everything that happens without knowing anything of the actual situation, there was a post a while back that had a screenshot of an article that said a rape victim lied and the man was set free.

Ofcourse people exploded which is understandable, they called for her head said she should be doing the same amount of time in jail, I found the article, she lied about being sexually abused by her father not about being raped, but since she lied about that when she was a child keep in mind, he was set free, she still claims that he did in fact rape her though but no one took 5 minutes of their time to actually look at the real article and just reacted to the attention grabbing headline and attacked the woman instead.

[–]ISOanexplanation 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

So there was zero evidence for a rape having happened outside her word? And there was zero evidence that it didn't happen outside of his word? That is a more rare than not type of rape case you're presenting. And you're presenting it as if you know that she was really raped and to question her is disgusting.

Not sure if you're a damsel or a white knight but there is no third option with the information you've given.

[–]cabose4prez -1 points0 points1 point 9 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

No nothing of what I said claims she was or was not raped, I said she claimed to still have been raped by the man. Your fine questioning her however when it was posted people didn't question her they attacked her for lying and falsely imprisoning a man which was just a eye catcher for the title, when you actually looked up the article and read it you realize it's not as black and white as the sub made it out to be.

I'm neither, I'm just saying how this sub can attack women without fully knowing a story or even pretending to look into it. People were in arms and had no idea that she was abused by her father and that's what she lied about, she claims to not have lied about the rape from the other man though.

[–]ISOanexplanation 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

IANAL but I'm pretty sure that a history of lying about being sexually assaulted can and should be considered evidence when a claimed victim makes new claims of having been sexually assaulted. Same as a history of any perjury is germane to future testimony. I guess boy who cries wolf gets what he's got coming but girl who cries wolf should always be believed.

[–]cabose4prez 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Except she wasn't a girl who cried wolf, she was sexually abused by her father, she didn't tell the court this though and it wasn't found out till years later, this led to the alleged rapist being freed as the damage to her body now could have come from another source instead of him, no where did she cry wolf and get away with it though.

[–]ISOanexplanation 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

You wrote "she lied about being sexually abused by her father". Sorry I took that at face value. I don't know anything about this case other than what you've written.

[–]cabose4prez 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Ahh sorry, it was originally asked if she had any other sexual contact and she said no which was a lie since her father was sexually abusing her, I can see where I mispoke and caused the misunderstanding.

Thats the thread, Here is the full article

While I will agree that the trial was done poorly and a conviction based soley on a testimony is pretty ridiculous the attacks she got in that post were undeserved

[–]ISOanexplanation 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I see your point but I don't feel it applies to this case. And in this small forum people are more concerned about the crime of false accusations. Primarily because almost all of the rest of our society is either feminist or traditionalist and doesn't give a shit about false accusations. Because to them female suffering will always be more important than male suffering.

[–]cabose4prez 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

My problem with what this sub is becoming is that it is only worried about male suffering, when I originally joined this sub several years back it was about actual equaility across the line and thats what made the MRM different from feminism, but this sub is so reactionary now and immediatly attacks women without knowing the full story or without knowing the actual feelings of the person, its become a breeding ground for hating women, just look at most threads and the comments inside them and you will see, there is a lot of terrible things said about women.

Seems a bit unfair on her. She clearly cared about him a great deal. His long work hours and declining health were obviously putting a strain on the relationship and the argument started over concerns for his health. She couldn't have known what was going to happen. Seems like a tragedy for all involved. I wouldn't put blame on either of them.

Edit: his health, not hers

I just don't get that. Why do people let themselves be abused like this? Don't they have any self respect?

If I had just worked 16 hours... for HER.... and she told me I wasn't sleeping in my own bed.. I would lead her out the door, tell her "Good riddance." and lock the door behind her.

She can sleep on the sidewalk or go somewhere else. I wouldn't take that shit from ANY female.

Google NPD/HPD/BPD.

It starts off as a honeymoon relationship, where everything is wonderful. Its like a drug. As it wears off and she becomes an insufferable bitch, the addicted male tries to do anything to get back to that pleasant place, and ironically while trying to please more, the bitch gets more insufferable. A sudden change of pace by the male will either lead to a relationship blow up and end, where he is the one villified, or will lead to her being nice and sweet again... for about a week. Then its back to the regularly scheduled program.

Think of it like this: Once you've got someone and you know it, you can act however you want. If you see them start to lose their loyalty, then you sugar them up again to get their allegiance back. Once you have it again, you no longer have to 'work at being nice to them', and can revert to being shitty.

Guys who enter relationships like this are either serial self-blamers when it comes to all relationships, or are addicts to the 'high's of life.

[–]Mythandros 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Thank you for the explanation. I have been in similar manipulative relationships. I respect myself and have learned not to compromise certain values. I wish the same for anyone else.

[+]PowerWisdomCourage -7 points-6 points-5 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

This is clearly being misrepresented by OP. He was on the couch following an argument because he wouldn't stop working 16 hour shifts, which he was doing to save up money to take her on a surprise trip. You really can't assume she's some horrendous slave driver since there is 0 evidence here to support that. He made the wrong choice, for the right reasons; for a long time, and paid a steep price for it.

[–]Meistermalkav 3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

just a hypothesis?

Wanna bet she wanted a divorce?

It fits.

  • blames ill health of husband on doing too much stuff with the children. I mean, seriously? You trake care of your back, but you are not going to let it destroy you during the marriage. Yea, during a divorce, however, convenient way to explain away wh he was not getting better. And if she so much as mentioned the divorce procedings that she wants single custody, you can bet your ass any father would spend extra time with his children. OOh, but now, with him out of the picture? "Yea, he worked himself to deatjh, it happens. Lol, i don't know why he did it... I mean, I allmost feel like the guilt person here..."

-"Letting a health concerned husband sleep on the couch. " Okay, lets assume he has a point, which he can't tell. Why would a husband in maritial troubles sleep on the couch, and not in his own bed? Well, during a divorce, or in the beginning stages of a divorce, the one about to initiate the divorce usually asks for a lot of reasonable things that are out of character, and begins throwing shit. Like, ugh, you are doing so little with the children / you are doing too much with the children. You are having too many arguments where children can hear them / Let me tell you what is wrong in front of the children. It is common knowledge that this is done to provoke a response. which they hope is bad enough to justify why they do want the divorce, and stops them from feeling bad for it.

  • King amongst these is usually the "you sleep on the couch" argument. It is designed to infuriate the husband, and build on the traditional argument that a woman is queen of a house a man pays for. you can not simply step in the bed, or she will keep you from sleeping, untill you snap and she has her evidence. you can not loudly argue that this is a bed, it sleeps two people, or she has her argument. Remember, raising a voice towards a thin skinned female is emotional violence.

  • After the death? She is faced with enormous responsibility of actually finding a job that pays well enough for her and the children. No more sitting at home peddling etsy shit, going, I contributed. So, she tries to soften the blow all she can. Oh, yea, she did not really want a divorce, she is a widow, and she was only concerned about his health, you see, this is why she let him sleep on the couch, this is wh he sought refuge in the children, this is why he worked 16 hpur days thinking he can make her non mad by not only taking the kids to disney, but also by taking her for the anniversary to prague. BUt ooioh, she just learned of this after he was cold, and so she could not have taken it easier on him, or such.... which of course is a possibility of course, but the bigger and way more likely probability was, she was feeling especially cunty, chose to nag at him relentlessly, he chose to work 16 hour days, so he would at least be away fom her to "make it up to the children" with a disney trip, and to "make it up to her" with a trip to prague.
