In my settlement, I took an equity buyout so the exw would stay in the house she bought before marriage and I could get a nice payout. Bought a place down the road from my kids that was a smaller house but a bigger back yard and even better, bigger garage. No complaints on that trade off, house is plenty decent when the kids are there, easy to clean and I have space for my other toys, fire pit and back up to the woods. I finished my garage with a nice polyaspartic floor and a few months later moved in a two door 6 speed manual sports car. The exw was livid when I pulled up to the kids after school sports in those and the other dads were high fiving me. It's nice to be in complete control of my destiny!

My present is just putting away $100 each paycheck I to savings so that when emergencies happen I do t have to rely on her parents.

12 years of marriage and probably 6 months total in that time that she did not have to ask her parents help with the bills.

I paid cash for everything before I met her, we had loans, credit card debt, second mortgage, and handouts from her parents while together. Since being apart I have payed almost everything cash except for car loan and lawyer loans.

Im not there yet. Still a bit unclear what the financial outcomes will be but i should get a decent chuck of money put of the house.

Been living by extremely minimal means for a while now (saving everything for legal fees). Honestly gotten use to it and its not even close to being the worst part of all this.

Peace, relief and not having to deal with her shit would all be amazing gifts.

Just thinking about it now (one of the few positive thoughts ive been had this weekend). Some new shoes and an actual bed would be sweet. Hopefully at some point i can have a little break from working 6 days a week too.

Honestly, it felt amazing just buying decorations and items for my new house without endless discussion and back and forth. There also wasn’t the inevitable weekend spent rearranging entire rooms a month after getting it in place. My ex fixated on that crap.

I got into interior design during the move and have this place looking exactly like I want.

Two hours after my divorce was finalized I started a 9 hour tattoo on my ribs, 6 hours after we started I finally tapped and had to come back 3 weeks later to finish up the rest

Our TV was messed up when she left so in an attempt to get her back, I went put and bought a new one. She never cared how nice any of our electronics were, she was happy with whatever filled that hole so I bought the cheapest TV I could find that was the same size. She never came back and I grew to hate that damn TV and viewed it as a symbol of how stupid I was.

We were going to sell the house and split the proceeds which meant I was going to have to pay for movers, security deposits, and any other costs associated with moving. Things worked out well and I get to keep the house so I had all the money I'd saved up for those expenses left to do whatever I wanted. The smart thing to do would have been putting that money in savings. I'm not that smart.

What I am is the proud owner of a new 65" OLED TV. I got a really good deal on it and had cash left over. She paid the bills, and somehow, we never had the money for new home audio gear. There were some speakers that I'd wanted for years but they were always too expensive. I bought the nicer and newer ones that replaced the ones that I'd wanted. Then the center channel didn't sound right with the new left and right ones so I replaced that. Then the new speakers really exposed how short the old receiver was so I replaced that. Then the sub didn't blend in well with everything else so I replaced that. Now I've got the best sounding living room that I've ever heard and an amazing TV to match

I absolutely love it!

Next up is getting my rock collection out and in the open to see. If some of those pieces were nice enough for museums to display them (seriously, I've loaned pieces out to museums and have the labels they used too), then they're nice enough for my living room.

For context, I'm partially through the process. I took a trip to Scotland/Ireland as a reward for serving her (gotta get those Delta miles off the account!). Now that we're in the throes of dividing home goods, I'm allowing myself to buy half-decent furniture / kitchen gear to replace what she takes.

My original "it's finally over" gift was going to be a Rolex. Now it'll be a "Rolex" from certain non-Swiss source - that'll be more in my budget after seeing how $$$$ this process is.

I took a divorce moon, like a honeymoon, but for myself to celebrate my divorce. Went on a month long trip around the country, stayed in incredible guesthouses en hotels. Flew back home when it was my weekend with the kids. Got back home, bought both kids new expensive bicycles, booked a three week holiday for the three of us. Chucked the old bedroom suite and mattress, upgraded to a king base and mattress, new bedside tables and lamps. Installed new flooring in the kids and my bedroom. New sheets and duvets for all. Life has been amazing since the divorce.
