Either they lack common sense and empathy to understand why something they did or said was unacceptable, or they pretend and justify it some other way. Thought I might add that certain types of men can explode in a rage when they are called out on their shit. The more his lies are exposed, the angrier he gets. Screenshots and other proof don’t work to humble him or hold him accountable, because he already knows what he’s doing is wrong, he just feels entitled to keep doing it and he is pissed you expect him to treat you with respect.

Always have an exit plan, and get away as fast as you can at the first sign of an abnormal or frightening reaction over being called out. Please don’t even think about the relationship once it reaches that point. He is never worth it, he will never change, and you could be in real danger.

I have been in two situations where I've literally shown screenshots to an abusive ex, and a pick-me ex friend (who decided to fall out with me accusing me of not contacting her when she just never replied to me) and both have just chosen to ignore the fact I have proof they are wrong or have said various horrible things to me.

I can't even begin to talk about my LVX and his constant gaslighting over text. Anything I said was misconstrued and semantics mattered more than what actually happened. He would pick apart anything I said but when I did the same to him I'm suddenly an abuser and gaslighting him with semantics. God my past pickme self was way too patient, kind and loving towards someone who doesn't even deserve a crumb of those things while neglecting myself. I'm still facing the consequences and trying to rebuild my self-esteem and confidence. Narcissistic people are the worst and it seems to be a standard trait in LVMs. Any young women on this sub, please take this post seriously, and if he even shows the smallest inkling of this behaviour, run and don't look back.

It’s because they’ve been enabled their entire lives and live in a society that placates and walks on egg shells to not offend their fragile sense of self. Behind Everyman like this there is an over bearing mother who still does their laundry and a wife who rolls her eyes behind his back and jars up resentment (to text later to friends but never utter a word to her partner in person - he stonewalls anyway so what’s the point?)

These men are just over grown babies that have no experience to self soothe when someone doesn’t applaud every word coming out of their mouth. ESPECIALLY if the lack of applause is from women.

I’ve seen grown men go on slash and burn text tirades and keep screens shots to show fellow male friends at parties just to get their indignant validation. Grown men passing around receipts of Facebook statuses just to give their “lived in the same town my entire life” ego a high five. They love breathe and NEED their bubble to remain the same. So any sort of holding up the mirror threatens that and their status as the “funniest guy in the room” character sheet. Hence the rage.

Kinda sad though that simply not agreeing that they are absolutely amazing will make their entire world crumble into a raging child tantrum. Willing to sacrifice any amount of friends just to regain that infantile sense of self. I can’t imagine having to live that way. Where as a women, we get insulted disagreed with put down looked over every waking second of our existence.
