I cannot recommend the mirena IUD highly enough. I thought I would go crazy because hormones make me crazy, but it actually has a slight anti-anxiety effect, I don't have any more periods, my boobs are a little bigger, and it's 99+% effective for pregnancy prevention. I don't plan to remove it until I'm ready to have a baby and it makes me feel so safe. It really didn't hurt more than a period cramp it took ten minutes

Honestly, this is why we need to reduce abortion stigma. There are a lot more women that should be getting abortions, to be perfectly honest. They typically keep the baby out of pressure from the outside; parents, boyfriend, church, etc.
Repeal the Hyde Amendment and fund those abortions! Seriously, I don't care if this makes people feel icky, it's a critically needed service.
As soon as I got pregnant my boyfriend at the time went nuts. It was subtle at first, but he became so controlling I feared for my life. I'm glad that abortion services were easy to access when he completely flipped out. There was no fucking way I'd allow myself to be tied to such a flaming garbage heap for the rest of my life.

Hits pretty close to home. My ex husband left me literally with zero money with a newborn whilst he was “donating money to church” but firstly to his own account, had gym memberships, lunches and dinners at fancy restaurants without me, sport club subscription, tv subscriptions etc etc
I didn’t even realise what was happening. It pains me now to think this was just straight up financial abuse. I was begging friends and family for money even looking up food banks. BuT OH hES sUCh a GoOd MaN FoR GoINg To wOrK was what i told myself. He made me feel like maternity leave was just holiday while he did all the hard work so he deserved all those things whilst I got the child.
Then had the AUDACITY to say that he was divorcing me because he was embarassed that I did not go to all the parties he did because I was at home with a baby. He shamed me for breastfeeding, not having sex after giving birth and eventually when he pressured me so much and i gave in he told me my vagina felt more open. I cried.
Don’t have babies with LVM. Don’t have babies with abusive LVM.
Women need this subreddit. We accept far too much bullshit because we have a “ticking clock” or we convince ourselves we need a man to be validated as a woman. FUCK NO. Vet, vet and vet again. This is one of my biggest scares too. I understand the philosophy behind it but also it’s common knowledge women fare worse off in marriages in the first place so it’s not something I am not bothered about chasing. However; good vetting in the first place should reduce risk as much as possible I guess? If I had applied FDS to my ex husband he would have been gone the first time I found him in gaslighting before the first year was up.
I mean I had a lot of FDS principles after leaving him before finding what it was, and it has lead to a much more compatible match, but I still am very very cautious and wouldnt be accepting any proposals for a long time yet.

It was awful, but lessons learnt. I allowed him in, I saw the signs but i gave in to the want of being in any relationship. No one deserves to be treated like that. And we cannot change the fact there are people like that out there, just know how to avoid them. Every woman has personal responsibility over who they choose. The reason why I love this sub is that they give you harsh truths. Sometimes they’re uncomfortable, but if I had followed it earlier in life I would have never found myself in that situation.
Regardless, life moves on and all I can say is I’m so glad I learnt NOW how to be completely ok by myself, love myself, respect myself. And then following that find someone who so far looks to be a much much better choice for me. Someone who genuinely loves and cherishes every part of who I am. Fingers crossed it remains that way. And if not? No worries I still got this on my own.
