I know this sounds something that everybody already seems to know, but that realisation hit me two days ago and I cannot get it out of my head and I feel I’m getting more and more angrier about it.
Many here have probably either watched or heard about the TV show that deals with women’s place in a dystopian world, based on a book (I’m not sure if I’m allowed to say the title). Well, I finally watched the last two seasons after being completely distraught when I watched the first two seasons and needed to distance myself. It was in the middle of the previous US presidency and everything just felt too gloomy and I couldn’t watch it, so I did it now and it made me want to discuss the show in length.
I spoke with someone who is dear to me, who is pro-women and pro-women’s rights and who happens to be male.
And he told me that he doesn’t see how these things could happen or would happen in the place where we live right now, which isn’t the US, but it is in Europe.
To say that we had a disagreement over this topic would be an understatement. Despite everything I said, all the examples I brought out - both from modern and historic - he was pretty adamant that it wouldn’t happen where we were and if the first signs were there “women should protest” and I felt like everything I tried to explain about the book, the series, the whole point just flew past his head. Because he couldn’t even entertain the thought that this could happen where we were, even with women protesting and disagreeing with this.
And it made me realise that I, as a woman, have grown up to know that my rights aren’t given, that I need to support expanding those rights and that even when these rights have been achieved, one has to be loud and ensure that the rights are being kept as they’ve been achieved. And men... just haven’t. He’s never had to worry that a doctor will think he’s being hysterical or overwhelmed. He’s never had to seriously worry that he won’t be listened to. He doesn’t even entertain the thought that someone would not allow him to use his own hard earned money or not allow him to have a bank account, because that’s what happens in dictatorships and we live in modern times.
And it makes me so angry, even now, two days later, because I see the book and the TV show as a warning of what might happen if fundamental religiousness is allowed to control the society or adherence to restrictive societal expectations of women can lead to remaking of society and for him it’s all fictional. Never mind that the examples are there even from modern times! Never mind that we have people who practice extreme religiousness within their own lives and there are women who are subjugated, against their will, to these rules even today and now. Nope, not gonna happen.
And he’s a good guy - educated, pro-women, pro-choice, gender equality et cetera. There are so many who believe in even less. It just makes me both sad and mad and I feel like the only people who understand why the show and book freak me out are.... other women.
Idk why I wanted to post this, his reaction has made me rant about men and their perception of the world and thinking that their heads are in clouds sometimes.

I stopped reading when her evidence was based off of future dystopian fiction. Most of those fiction, such as "the handmaidens tale" are written by women. There is no male agenda working against women's rights and their fantasy has no basis in reality.
Meanwhile there is a whole movement that is openly hostile to a large group based on what's between their legs.
[–]Oogaboogayikes 133 points134 points135 points (5 children) | Copy Link
Yeah a saw a similar thing on Twitter where they were talking about the “male gaze” and how male artists are awful and they were giving examples where the artist was actually a woman lmao.
[–]Sir_Sux_Alot 139 points140 points141 points (1 child) | Copy Link
Whenever it turns out to be a woman it becomes internalized misogyny. Women are never responsible for their own actions.
[–]armaadi 52 points53 points54 points (0 children) | Copy Link
Imagine that, a group claiming that the world marginalizes and infantalizes women does exactly that.

I just took up drawing, been looking at how to draw female bodies. Made me wonder If i should ever post Anatomy practice, might insight some female rage cause my drawings sucked or the proportions are off. lol. Given how easy it is for the Feminist to find fault with anything a man does.

Be sure to include a surplus of fat rolls, wouldn’t want to portray unrealistic body standards. But oh wait, then you’re calling all women fat cows and still holding them to an unrealistic body standard. It’s a lose lose, but good luck on the art from a guy with zero drawing talent!

I've had to read Handmaiden's Tale for my English class when we were discussing dystopias. I foubd it quite illogical. Like they aren't allowed to talk to anybody, this coup just happened and apöarently the tourists are all unaware of what's happening. But at the same time there's a resistance outside of the US that knlws about it but doesn't raise a stink and instead helps in secret?? Also, the backstory of the protagonist really doesn't make me want to root for her(even though I'm a woman) since iirc she was a honewrecker, which is part of the reason she became a handmaiden in the first place. I'm a child of divorce, so homewreckers are really not people I root for. Mind you, I repressed a lot of what was written in the book because it was so mind boggingly boring written.

Dystopias are more about exploring moral limits to human action than trying to draw out a plausible (as opposed to realistic) course of history.
A longer World War 1 wouldn't have turned into a Brave New World, and I don't think that the entire world can fall to a handful of Totalitarian states like in 1984.
I don't think you're being fair to the premise. (Or anyone else in this thread)
The precedents for everything in the novels already exist and the political motivations are also there, they're not prevalent enough to coup the government, but they're there.
[–]Byroms 0 points1 point2 points (0 children) | Copy Link
I can obly suspend my disbelief so much in favour of story tellibg. We also watched "Never let me go", which also had glaring plotholes, but not nearly enough for me to not believe the world exists.
It's not about what happens in the country that takes me out of HMT, but rather the world's utter lack of reaction to it. It doesn't feel like there is anyone else in the wirld beside the US, which wouldn't be a priblem if she had completely left out tourists and other countries, but she delibarately mentioned them.
The premise is honestly not bad, the execution of it within the book isn't bad, but it's also not good either.
Dystopias need to feel a little bit real to actually be conaidered good writing, it must feel like it could really happen.
All in all, we have refugees from the US, we have resistance groups bzt somehow the world at large is ignorant of whats going on? Yea that is just not plausible in any scenario.
[–]DeputyDak 38 points39 points40 points (0 children) | Copy Link
It just shows that women have run out of real problems to get offended by and are now getting triggered by dystopian fictional TV shows
[–]suicidemeteor 5 points6 points7 points (1 child) | Copy Link
In my opinion, follow the profit. How can those at the top maximize profit (or control)? Slow and ineffective government that they lobby hard for, easy corporate tax loopholes, massive businesses, shutting out and purchasing of small startups. All of these are already being done, If you want a dystopia look at what makes the top the most money. Taking away women's rights would be fucking stupid, not just fucking stupid, but so utterly fucking retarded that it's beyond belief. Not only does getting women out of the workforce lead to potentially anti-government and radical (from the government's perspective) teachings straight from mom to kid, but it rebirths the historically, most effective protesting class due to the large amount of free time they have. There's a reason middle class women championed Abolition (of slavery and alcohol), suffrage (for the working man too), and basically every other cause that came in front of them. There's a reason they held salons and were the messengers of the Enlightenment. They had loads of free time! Then when the middle class expanded and labor saving devices exploded the womens rights movement did too, because of all the free time women had. Giving women free time (eg, removing them from factories) would be creating a well educated group dedicated to your downfall. If I was supporting an autocratic coup and they supported this shit I'd get their head checked.
[–]Angryasfk 3 points4 points5 points (0 children) | Copy Link
Actually suffragettes did not, in the main, advocate for working men to have the vote. In fact in the US they were complaining about how wrong it was that they, decent and respectable American women couldn’t vote whilst whilst uneducated foreign immigrants who couldn’t speak English were able to.

Yeah, big vibes of that. In reality, feminists don't know what it's like to be a man or woman. They know what it's like to be at home all day on government benefits whining on Twitter about how horrible men are. That's about all.
[–]Angryasfk 1 point2 points3 points (1 child) | Copy Link
Oh no. Some are professional feminists: the faculty at all these “Gender Studies” Departments; the Spillars of the world and other professional lobbyists. If they were just unemployable Twitter whingers it wouldn’t be anywhere near as bad.

Yes, but the vast majority of Twitter feminists are just that. Feminism is almost like a pyramid scheme where the women at the top make out like bandits and the women at the bottom get nothing.

Don't care who created it. It exists and that's the problem.
[–]breakeven_not 0 points1 point2 points (3 children) | Copy Link
It is a problem and you should care, because women did not do this to men, men did it to themselves. And mentioning women rights in relation to something that has nothing to do with women is stupid.
[–]reddut_gang 0 points1 point2 points (2 children) | Copy Link
Lol you are all the same. So apparently now I chopped off my own dick? So the millions of circumcised, they circumcised themselves? You and your victim blaming shit. It's abhorrent.
[–]breakeven_not 0 points1 point2 points (1 child) | Copy Link
The people who popularized circumcision were religious nuts, that happened to be men because most religions do not even consider women as being memebers of the human race. And guess what women are not really fond of religious nuts either. And saying that women have it better just because they are not circumcized is idiotic, especially since in some parts of the world some of them get their clitoris chopped off, or thier labias sewn together.
Get your thoughts in order and stop raging. People have done shit to each other for a long time, but women barely had any power in the decisions being made. Them being second-class citizens and all and only getting the right to vote in the 19th century or so.
[–]reddut_gang 0 points1 point2 points (0 children) | Copy Link
That's not an important distinction to me. I believe in equality. Y'all can be equally bad as one another.
This is no place for sexism. Stop generalizing all women.
As opposed to having part of your dick chopped off in almost every country?
And if you think it isn't bad, there was a post a few hours ago about a baby who bled to death because of a botched circumcision, without anaesthesia. Men are put behind the 8-ball from birth with this risky and painful procedure. It is absolutely a privilege not to have to experience it and survive it to progress in life.
They are in order.
Lmk where I blamed them for circumcision. Well, actually, looking back on it, the botched circumcision was done by a woman. So you may not have started it, but you partake in this hideous act nonetheless. But I'm sure you see how much of a slap to face it is when I generalise all of you on the basis of one individual's actions right? That's what you do to us every single time an issue that we face is brought up. To somehow put blame upon us for things we cannot control.

The ear piercing is a pretty fair point. Neither gender seems to get bodily autonomy granted to them at birth. The problem is circumcision is just a much more widely accepted practice. However the rights issued to males and females would be the same. Or more specifically, a lack of rights.

I don't want a highly educated career woman because they are the un-happinest set of women and really don't have anything that attracts men. For lower value beta guys it's great but a man that's already successful is looking for something completely different.
Ladies, the man you want doesn't care I you have a successful career, please stop acting and behaving like men and then just maybe you can land one that don't have to settle for
[–]AccidentallyBorn 4 points5 points6 points (9 children) | Copy Link
There's nothing wrong with a woman doing what she wants with her life. If she wants to be an engineer, or a doctor, or a lawyer, that doesn't make her any less attractive imo (actually it makes her more attractive).
I do know what you mean about when you talk about unhappy working women though -- there are definitely a subset of women who go into high pressure careers because they want to make lots of money and beat the patriarchy. Those women are miserable. Usually horrible coworkers/bosses too, having worked for and with a few.
[–]TheConnoissuer 2 points3 points4 points (3 children) | Copy Link
There isn't anything wrong with that but you were sold that idea and statistics PROVE that most career women by the age of 30 are burnt out and eventually quit because they realize they want kids but at that time it's almost too late. Statistics also prove that women now are the un happiest in history. I know you are just repeating the things that were sold to you as empowering but look at the facts. Women these days are ending up lonely with no kids because they all want a guy who makes more than them and check all these boxes. A top 10% man doesn't want a woman like that
[–]AccidentallyBorn 2 points3 points4 points (2 children) | Copy Link
I wasn't "sold" the idea, I formed it naturally after growing up in a family where my mother, her mother, and my aunt all hold postgraduate science or engineering degrees and were able to happily raise their family while working professionally (albeit with some career sacrifices which I know my mother is still bitter about).
What I am putting forward is a natural concept of fairness; it's no one's place to say what anyone else should do with their life. Unless "anyone else" is a danger to society and you're throwing them in prison or something.
Which statistics? I would be very interested to see that, but I'm sceptical. I'm aware of the burnout/wanting kids phenomenon you mention, and I know a few women who are in that exact position... But not "most" by any measure. Also 30 is very young - most women are fertile until 40, though fertility does decrease markedly. IVF has made older mothers a lot more practical.
To me, it seems the childless women 40+ are the ones getting incredibly depressed at their lifestyle. The overwhelming, biologically-driven focus of men on younger, fertile women also often creates a bit of a "self-value shock" when they realize that men aren't interested in them anymore. At 30, women still get a lot of attention from men.
It's not about "empowerment". I am not a feminist and do not believe that women need to be “empowered”, however they do deserve the same level of basic respect and opportunity as everyone else.
It's very important to realise that not all women have a burning desire to settle down and be a stay at home mum. I know that some (actually, probably many) do want some variation of that, but not all. It's damaging to put every woman in the same box, just as it's damaging to do that to men.
I'm not sure what you mean by that, but I'm sure I don't qualify. Either way though, I see a lot of very successful and powerful men with wives who are highly qualified and successful in their own right. I don't think your theory holds up completely.
Again, I'm sure you're right about many/potentially most "top 10%" men. But people's needs and desires in a relationship vary, and to me a stay at home mum with no passion for anything sounds boring af.

I’m a dude, with a long term partner on a six-figure income, myself earning over $200k per year at a tech company, and climbing.
But thanks for coming clean about your opinion that women belong in the kitchen/home and not in careers of their own. I’m sure it really makes this sub look great to outsiders.
[–]TheConnoissuer -2 points-1 points0 points (4 children) | Copy Link
High Value guys are looking looking a woman that can raise his kids and continue his legacy. Why would he want a woman who focuses more on herself and career than her family and would rather have complete strangers raise her children.
All so she can make 50k per year. After the cost of child care its probably half her salary after taxes. As a man I might as well marry the childcare worker because she is actually capable of being a mother.
So you can either believe an actual guy who is giving you the male perspective or you can listen to the headlines and articles of whatever propaganda news source you allow yourself to be influenced by currently.
To get the male perspective listen to Kevin Samuel's on you tube, it might open your eyes to how men think rather than another woman feminist writer telling you how we think.
[–]AccidentallyBorn 4 points5 points6 points (3 children) | Copy Link
Dude, I am a guy. You're not talking to a brainwashed feminist simp, either; I fucking hate feminism and the feminist narrative. I have dealt with feminist bullshit for a long time, at work/uni, while dating and online, and am intimately familiar with the misandry and misrepresentation of men's experiences that they perpetuate.
It's kinda shocking to me that you're assuming I'm a woman/feminist simply because I'm disagreeing with you on this statement:
It's patently false, I know a lot of men, including myself, find educated and intelligent women attractive. And I know a lot of very intelligent women, many of whom are my direct colleagues, who are very happy. A lot of them also have families. So once again, stop assuming all men are like yourself.
It's clearly possible to focus on your family more than or equally to your career and be successful.
Like I said in my other comment, many guys (perhaps yourself?) may prefer a stay at home, submissive woman who spends her life cleaning and child-rearing. Plenty of women do want that lifestyle, or would, and are shamed out of it by toxic feminism. I totally agree this is the case.
However, I do not personally find that kind of woman attractive -- I want to be with a woman who I can connect intellectually with. I also do not particularly want children and would prefer to spend my accrued capital (both financial and experiential) on a legacy that furthers humanity in some other way than popping out kids.

When you see women like this ranting and clearly completely out of touch with reality... it's a reminder that the rates of mental illness among feminists are sky high.
[–]FartyMcShitFace 61 points62 points63 points (4 children) | Copy Link
The thing about feminism and mental illness is as long as what you're saying paints women as victims and men as perpetrators, you can say anything and they'll just nod along.
Like, I've seen a post on TwoX saying that women need to accept basically all men have had at least one incidence of sexual misconduct at some point in their lives. Like, fucking what? It was upvoted and nobody called her on her shit, yet they wonder why men are afraid of false accusations.
You could go to TwoX, post that if it were up to men women would be strapped to tables to have their bodies used by any man that comes along, and people would agree with you. There are constant discussions on what men think, what men feel, and what men believe, but when a man comes along and disagrees, he gets banned. "Don't tell women what they should do! Don't talk about what women want or what women think! But men believe this, this, and that."
Seriously, what a fucking shitcan. If it were held to the same standard as male-dominated subreddits it would have been banned years ago.

Feminists: you didn't grow up female therefore you cant understand how we think, therefore shut the fuck up and swallow whatever shit we want to feed you!

I am starting to think that feminism is the inverse of therapy (psychological/psychiatric) inducing a mental illness along the delusional axis.
The re-framing of reality based on the assumption of a conspiracy theory ("patriarchy theory"). Along with general belief of "there is no truth, but power", necessitates that: A) as long as they have power they are correct B) who ever is correct has the power, rather than simply accurately describing reality The two combined suggest paranoid (fear of losing power, hence being wrong) delusion (cognitive dissonance between "there is no truth, but power" vs description of reality). I don't assume that this is unique to feminism, but we are discussing feminism.
I am not a therapist, and this is not medical advice. Just an educated enthusiast.
If you are interested in this line of thought and want me to elaborate or have any questions - ask away.
[–]BloodyTamponExtracto 174 points175 points176 points (13 children) | Copy Link
Perception is reality and we just live in two different realities. It honestly makes me wonder sometimes if it's my perception of reality that is off when I see things like this that seem so utterly divorced (pun intended) from reality to me.
Like seriously, does this woman not understand that 97% of alimony payers are men? Does she not realize how many women use children to extract money from men? And that this isn't in some fictional, dystopian, feminist-apocalyptic Hulu series. This is the legal reality right now for men!
It is soul crushing to see these women have succumb to such life-long propaganda that they actually believe they are a victim of western society in 2021.
It all boils down to abortion. They want their abortions. Fine, whatever. That's a discussion we can have. But to suggest that men somehow have more rights and more reproductive choices than women is insanity.
[–]fishnpaddleman 14 points15 points16 points (0 children) | Copy Link
Yeah, straight up the opposite of reality. Statistically, only men a number of years into their careers are net taxpayers, aside from the facts about who pays child support and alimony. Most benefits paid by tax dollars function in part as a redistribution of men's income to women, even our healthcare system (where the ACA mandates that health insurance policy premiums be the same for men and women even though women use way more healthcare services) .
In theory, I have no problem at all with the idea that men should take care of women. However, having it happen under threat of force from the state and with the scorn of an army of hysterical feminists is frustrating. I do actually enjoy providing for my family though because they appreciate it.
[–]FunkyJ121[S] 51 points52 points53 points (2 children) | Copy Link
I often wonder the same. The system seems so perverse with extreme feminists making it look like they have it so bad through misinformation. They always show their true colors when the draft is brought up.
Hulu, Lifetime, it's the same thing. Dramatic theatrics about abused women who make up the "majority," but that's only the case on screen.
Abortion is rediculously defining of their beliefs that men have it better, but we're still forced to pay for them after. I just want to keep children from the fucked up world, especially if they are gonna be from a broken home. r/antinatalism gang
[–]World952 4 points5 points6 points (1 child) | Copy Link

[–]Angryasfk 0 points1 point2 points (0 children) | Copy Link
We still need children though. But you’re right, it’s worrying the world they’d be born into. No wonder the birthdate is way down. But feminists are mostly very happy with this.
[–]MBV-09-C 9 points10 points11 points (2 children) | Copy Link
Really makes you wonder, with that quote, does she completely not understand the whole 'hen-pecked husband' trope that gets played for comedy whenever it shows up in media? A big part of that is the wife literally not allowing the husband to do anything she doesn't want, and that largely involves controlling the finances, which, when gender-swapped is labeled as financial abuse. And that trope didn't just pop up out of nowhere, it's inspired by real life. If she does acknowledge that I wouldn't be surprised if her perception is that the woman in the trope scenario is 'the responsible one helping the hopeless man with his money' which just takes the cake for wild misinterpretation and assumption, but I've seen worse, sadly.
[–]ShoutoutsToSimple 2 points3 points4 points (1 child) | Copy Link
I mean, this is coming from the same people who have drank the kool-aid to such a degree that they think getting to stay in the comfort of your own home was oppression, and being forced to work a terrible job you hate was privilege. It's hard to take anyone seriously when their view of an era like the 50s was that men were privileged because job and women were oppressed because housewife.
For one, as I've already alluded to, working a job isn't exactly privilege. Sure, having more options available to you is a privilege. But it's not like men had the option of being a house husband or working a job, whereas women were forced into being house wives. Women didn't have a choice in their role, but neither did men. And we could argue all day about which role is preferable, but to me it seems obvious as hell. Some people legitimately need to work to feel validated. But I would argue there are far more people who would prefer to stay home, tidy the place up, go shop for groceries, and cook dinner, than go to work every day. You get to pace your own responsibilities how you want. You spend most of your time in the comfort of your own home. You feel self-motivated, and therefore feel accomplished at each task you perform (instead of doing a task because your boss said so). And so on. So framing "man forced to work, woman forced to maintain the home" as "man privileged, woman oppressed" is foolish as hell to me.
Second, it assumes that because the man works the job, that makes him the boss. And I'm sure for many couples, the man really was the boss, and he treated his wife like she was basically one of the children, and it fits into that stereotype of a 50s couples where men ruled the world. But this completely ignores all the other marriage dynamics which existed. I'm pretty sure it was far more common than people think that the woman was in charge in the home. The man worked and earned the money. But when he came home, he'd be brow-beaten by the "social alpha" in the relationship. She would control the finances, largely because she does all the shopping. She would make the decisions about what furniture goes where, and where the man is allowed to do this or that. And so on. Not every couple was the stereotypical "patriarch", "father knows best" type of situation.
It's just really hard to even engage on these subjects when people have made up their mind to such a degree that they think that era is solid proof that men were privileged. In any given couple, it was still likely that the man hated his job, but felt that he must continue working it. Meanwhile his wife is living the life of luxury, pacing herself as she wishes, relaxing when she wants, enjoying the comforts of her home. And then the husband comes home to a wife who tells him what to do, which furniture not to sit on or eat at, etc. But still, people insist that "man work, woman not work" is all you need to know to declare men as universally privileged.
[–]Angryasfk 0 points1 point2 points (0 children) | Copy Link
It’s also not true that women “weren’t allowed to work” in the 1950’s too! Plenty of women worked, particularly as school teachers, shop assistants, secretaries, typists (this was before word processors and spell check remember), not to mention kitchen staff, waitresses. But it was seen as the husband not being able to support his wife. And that’s the real truth of feminism: it’s a bourgeois/upper middle class movement (for all the “intersectional” stuff they parade these days), and they are only concerned with women not occupying executive positions and high status ones like being an attorney, a surgeon, a major politician, or airline pilot.
In less affluent homes, the wives had little choice but to work to help make ends meet. At the time, other women felt sorry for them. Also it was before the pill and women tended to have quite a lot of kids by today’s standards. I’m sick of the constant attacks on the ‘50’s. Why is anyone surprised that a generation that struggled through the Great Depression, and then fought the Second World War wanted to build some sort of domestic ideal, which circumstances had previously denied them? Also all these feminist exposes of the ‘50’s housewife “trapped” at home and isolated whilst the man “socialises at work” forget that people actually knew their neighbours back then, and would visit and spend time with them! Certainly the housewives did. We’ve lost as well as gained since the 1950’s!

This shit is exactly why I refuse to believe feminism is about equality. You see women and ignorant men pretending women live like second class citizens yet cant give examples aside from hyperbole and willful ignorance when the sitations are reversed.
Just look at this mindless dribble.
Not only is she ignoring every and all pressing issue that is affecting men between the draft, circumcision, biased family court/law enforcement, etc. But she is also ignoring the men of color who literally were slaves.
So they dont count or something or are we going to scapegoat white men some more?
She's never had to worry about a doctor implying you are a rapist because you see a man (happened to me)
She's never been mocked for a mutilation at birth she had no control over.
Cause the men who claimed they were innocent and spent years behind bars for a rape thet didnt commit had all ears huh?
Or the man who called the cops on his abusive girlfriend only to hear laughter on the other end or for them to show up and arrest him. His side of the story was totally heard right?
It's amazing how feminists consistently cling to examples that prove their victim narrative, but you showing proof that narrative is the result of ignoring the suffering of men is akin to being an incel apparently.

She’s watched The Handmaids Tale! Some things in that have happened in Iran, but the use of handmaids to bear others children has never happened in any society I’m aware of. Even the the Book of Genesis (which it’s supposedly based on) Ishmael’s mother was acting haughty towards Sarah as she’d born a child whilst Sarah was barren - very different to The Handmaid’s Tale where the baby was taken away and the handmaiden moved on!
Honestly it’s like being paranoid about Gorillas and Chimpanzees because you’ve watched Planet of the Apes (the original)! But the fact they have to cite dystopian FICTION speaks volumes about the “oppression” they really face.

I think it's imperative that more feminist women begin to realize that for true equality/equity, men's issues need to be acknowledged and addressed. A movement towards equality has been turned into a competition, with two sides constantly hating on each other, and little progress being made. Both side have their issues, but they are so interconnected.
This post really grinds my gears, because it's like, what about men of color, gay men, who have not had many rights straight white women have in recent history. Or young men being forced into war, some still alive today? I'm a feminist because I want equality, and part of that has to be seeing both sides. Even in the Handmaid's tale, which she references, poor men, gay men, and men of color lose a lot of rights/all rights.
Then all the complaining about women being dismissed, which happens, but then only to turn around and dismiss men bringing light to issues they are faced with. It just makes no sense.

[–]ConfusedMegladon 2 points3 points4 points (10 children) | Copy Link
Well by definition, patriarchy is just a society with men in positions of power. It happened to be the type of government we have had throughout history. Attributing gender roles/discrimination only to the fact that men were in power as opposed to women/a mix of men and women is flawed logic.
Having women in power, or children, or cats, doesn't mean gender roles/discrimination would or would not have happened. There were a large multitude of factors that led to the gender roles and gender discrimination throughout history, the effects of which we deal with today. One of those factors, undeniably, is keeping women and poc out of positions of power. But again, having women or any other group in power doesn't guarantee a certain outcome.

Another thing we can love about the 60s is that it kept black and white people neatly separated. In fact they were so organized, they separated people by color, genitals, and even sexual orientation! There was the civil rights movement in the 60s which was actually noble unlike BLM which causes division and is hateful.
Also the traditional family concept was very popular back then and that was good for society. Men were strong and masculine, women were feminine and not toxic feminist trash. Unsurprisingly birth rates were high and not so low that we constantly have to import immigrants just to keep our economy going.
Anyway it wasn't perfect but still better than how things are now. The 80s-90s were overall better than the 60s or the last 15+ years though, do you even disagree on that?
Also interesting you mention GTA, the next GTA will be feminist woke trash too just like all american entertainment is now (look what they did to Star Wars, Terminator, Star Trek, Doctor Who etc.). Stop being naive dude and recognize the enemy
[–]ConfusedMegladon -1 points0 points1 point (4 children) | Copy Link
Look man, you can live your life however you want. Find you a feminine girl, go work, while she stays home with the kids. As long as other people have the choice to not live that life, society is on the right track.
I can't speak to the 80s or 90s in America, I wasn't alive/ didn't live there and simply don't know much about it. There problems in the world now, there were problems in the 80s and 90s. But I can't really complain.
[–]World952 0 points1 point2 points (1 child) | Copy Link
Women like that are hard to find now and are shamed by society.
Well there was no woke bs in the 80s. Most feminists weren't toxic and anti men yet. Lgbt+ bs wasn't out of control (now we have transgender kids even..wtf?).
In general America was more united. Honestly I blame the internet & especially social media for ruining society. It gave retards a place to gather and unite.
There were always problems but things are getting worse now

Good. So you admit you really don’t know what you’re on about!!!
Look Confused, draftees going to Vietnam wasn’t the totality of the 1960’s. The first half of the decade was as peaceful as today (plenty of “advisors” put in South Vietnam by Kennedy, and then Rolling Thunder - but the US had been doing this stuff in these “enlightened times” too! De Jure segregation was ended by the 1963/64 Civil Rights Acts and the 1965 Voting Rights Acts. These nasty, backwards types also went after the Klan too. In fact the Klan had fewer members in the ‘70’s than today. And you’ve just claimed this segregation and prejudice is ongoing today, so why single out the 60’s and 70’s as bad given you think it hasn’t changed anyway?
There was much more open hostility to homosexuality, but I’m not convinced that the current deification of the alphabet soup is going to last in the longer term. In the ‘70’s there was an “up the working class heroes” fad - aided by Marxist or Marxist leaning academics. Now these people are roundly ridiculed for being ignorant and “uncouth”; or outright attacked as “racist rednecks”, or “crackers” or “Chavs” or “bogans” (depending on the country). I see no reason why this could not happen to gay men in the future.
It has been verified that women are overall LESS happy today than in the 1950’s! So how “fulfilling” is all this feminist propaganda they’ve been fed? I do not think being open (or more open) to women pursuing professional careers, or blacks being treated as equal citizens in the US should have led inevitably to this mess of a society we have today.

"He doesn’t even entertain the thought that someone would not allow him to use his own hard earned money or not allow him to have a bank account"
That must be nice. What part of Europe doesn't have child support laws?
[–]Angryasfk 0 points1 point2 points (0 children) | Copy Link
Nah, she’s thinking of the part of The Handmaids Tale where the new regime of Giliad cancelled all women’s bank accounts. She’s so lacking in critical thought she thinks because a few anti-Trump protesters wore Handmaids Tale costumes that all this stuff was really happening! It’s like a kid in Primary School (elementary school) who insisted that the flying submarine already existed because it was in Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea! But he’d just turned 8! Implying men haven't had to fight for their own, and everyone else's, rights throughout all of history.
Implying that being watchful and vigilant that governments aren't trying to infringe on those rights is something only women have to do, as if men just inherently are always given them.
So stupid.
[–]HPUnicorn 53 points54 points55 points (27 children) | Copy Link
So , I have asked this before and I will ask it again
In the west, what rights are women missing that men have and what rights are they going to lose.
When DT because president I have a niece who was in fear of being deported because she is gay, she literally was in fear, of course 4 years later and nothing happened and at the time there was no proof that anything was going to happen, but she was told over and over from her community that she would be deported.
[–]FunkyJ121[S] 21 points22 points23 points (0 children) | Copy Link
That is so illogical I can't wrap my head around it. Was she an illegal immigrant? He had a 0 tolerance on immigration, but nobody can be deported based on orientation.
[–]BloodyTamponExtracto 33 points34 points35 points (21 children) | Copy Link
It is honestly ridiculous how much people buy in to the politics of fear in the United States. Trump was president for 4 years and abortion is still legal. After 4 years of Biden, people will still have their guns.
But so many people believe whatever bullshit FoxNews or MSNBC tries to sell them that you end up with people like your niece living in literally irrational fear.
[–]Soda_BoBomb 15 points16 points17 points (19 children) | Copy Link
While I agree, I would point out that one of those has been steadily expanded while the other has been steadily restricted
[–]scyth3s 0 points1 point2 points (13 children) | Copy Link
Abortion has been steadily restricted over that time... But I'm fairly sure that's not what you were getting at
[–]Soda_BoBomb 2 points3 points4 points (1 child) | Copy Link
Abortion has been getting more and more accepted pretty much nationwide, especially after Roe vs Wade. Some individual States have more restrictive laws than others, but you can't honestly try and act like it hasn't been steadily gaining overall.
[–]Greg_W_Allan 4 points5 points6 points (0 children) | Copy Link
Irony is Roe lied about being pregnant due to rape. The entire thing was based on a false/fraudulent premise.

[–]scyth3s -2 points-1 points0 points (5 children) | Copy Link
You're fucking dumbass. Men have issues, which is why I'm on this sub, but there's no need to be delusional.
https://news.trust.org/item/20201231112641-qfynt/
Texas just barred abortions after 6 weeks, which is ridiculous
Mississippi is going back to the Supreme Court scheduled next year to try to ban abortions after 15 weeks
Louisiana approved a similar ban that will go into effect if Mississippi wins its case
Arkansas passed a law banning abortions in all cases but medical necessity and rape, set to go into effect in August
Oklahoma governor signed a ban on abortion set to go into effect in November
AZ just banned abortions for genetic disorders that aren't considered lethal (eg down syndrome)
Montana, among other things, banned abortions after 20 weeks, set to take place in October
Tennessee passed a law banning the vast majority of abortions, including some pre 6 weekers
Kentucky, Idaho, Pennsylvania, and Missouri, have all passed similar laws or already had them and are awaiting a new shot at SCOTUS.
Things things are NOT coincidence, they are the result of conservative states being emboldened by Trump appointed judges being seated on the Supreme Court, so even u/BloodyTamponExtracto's comment isn't really correct. Trump absolutely emboldened and empowered anti abortion nonsense.
So please, u/world952, take your ignorance on the topic and shove it up your own ass. Then try to abort it and see if that's legal where you live.
[–]World952 1 point2 points3 points (4 children) | Copy Link
All that is a good thing lol. To be honest I don't care about abortion one way or the other but its ridiculous how women act oppressed over some abortion laws being changed potentially while every part of society panders to them and pushes their propaganda
If conservatives (the only ones who care about mens rights btw) took control of America in every way we would be better off. So do you really care about MRA? Then why do you support man hating libs
[–]scyth3s -1 points0 points1 point (3 children) | Copy Link
We get it dude, you don't want women to have a choice.
Poverty would be 100x more rampant OSHA would mostly vanish and worker deaths would skyrocket, owning your own home would become an even more distant dream for most Americans than it is now, our federal budget would be destroyed because tax cuts mysteriously don't pay for themselves, your Healthcare would go down the shitter... So yeah, hard disagree on that one. We saw what conservative leadership does for the country over the last 4 years: callous denial of lifesaving science and facts resulting in a very 600k+ dead Americans.
Absolutely. But like I said previously, there's no need to be delusional. Men have the vast majority of suicides, homelessness, workplace deaths, a worse work life balance in general, don't get any say in their future once a woman is pregnant, and many other important issues. None of that takes away from the fact that abortion is a serious women's issue and their rights are being eroded on it.
I don't.
[–]World952 1 point2 points3 points (2 children) | Copy Link
No I just like seeing feminist meltdown. Like I said I don't care about abortion one way or the other. In fact they can have it as long as they give back control of society to men and stop with their constant sexist propaganda. I don't see why we should care about abortion while men have the vast majority of suicides, workplace deaths, no power when it comes to marriage and kids etc. you even listed those things yourself. Feminists definitely don't care about those issues and even if they pretend to its just to bash the "evil" patriachy
All that is just bs exaggerations, we had many conservative Presidents and they were just fine. Even Trump after all the media hype didn't really do anything (I wish he did more).
But I would be fine with liberals if they weren't so extreme and woke now. Hell 90s Democrats would be seen as conservatives now since they were very different and normal. Just compare Bill Clinton with the bullshit Biden says
[–]scyth3s -1 points0 points1 point (1 child) | Copy Link
Classic conservative policy. Do nothing to benefit anyone, just do asinine shit and hope it pisses off the undesirables.
There's the blatant misogyny this sub is so famous for. This is as close to "I'm a blatantly sexist pig" as you're likely to read on a public forum. Take note r/MensRights, this is the kind of sexist and dehumanizing attitude that we should be ostricizing from the sub. This is the kind of guy that gets us all lumped in with his bullshit.
1) men should be in control of society. 2)women are sexist. 3) you're fucking nutty, mate
None of these are zero sum. We don't need to ban abortion to eliminate men's workplace deaths.
No they don't, which is why I'm not a feminist and also why I'm banned from r/Feminism, r/TwoXChromosomes, r/FeMRAdebates, and probably various other feminist subs I've long since forgotten.
I'm really not going to go that deep into politics on this sub, but every major economic crash of the last half century has been under republican leadership... Even Donald himself knows it

I honestly don't know which one you think is which because it depends upon how far back you want to go. Compared to 1960, abortion is hella more available than it is today - as are guns due to new technology.
[–]Soda_BoBomb 4 points5 points6 points (0 children) | Copy Link

Feminists: Men rule the world! We need more women in leadership positions to represent women's interests!
Also Feminists: KEEP ABORTION LEGAL!!

It's interesting that she says she understands that "rights are not given", but then goes on to say that means she has to be loud and speak out to demand that they not be taken away.
Her making demand and speaking out can never ever achieve anything but cause her to receive what others choose to GIVE her. Demands are just forcefully worded requests.
If men aren't afraid of their rights being removed it's because they are not "rights" at all… They are Liberties. Liberties are TAKEN, not granted. They are seized by force, not merely demanded with harsh language. If she wants the kind of security in her rights that she senses in men, she should learn to use a gun, and reconcile herself to a Liberty or Death mentality. That's the price… the kind of security of rights she wants simply can never be free. The reason she imagines that it can be is that it is traditionally men who have paid the price of liberty for the most part.
[–]rockafault 9 points10 points11 points (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]fishnpaddleman 8 points9 points10 points (0 children) | Copy Link
Utterly hysterical (and in the old "hysteria" sense, not the comical sense)
A small cadre of vocal feminists assert that women as a class are at risk of harm from men as a class, and now when a woman accuses a man of any inappropriate (or illegal) conduct, they want to preemptively remove the assumption of innocence to which we are all legally entitled when accused of a crime, so that men would have to prove their innocence if accused by a woman. This is what has been happening for a while in the university system, though it has not yet made its way into the courts.
The idea behind "believe all women" - that an accuser is entitled to be believed (if she is a woman accusing a man), rather than the accused being entitled to the presumption of innocence - turns hundreds of years of jurisprudence on its head regarding the rights of an accused person.
[–]Drippinice 7 points8 points9 points (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]charcoalblueaviator 6 points7 points8 points (0 children) | Copy Link
Feminism in my opinion is more about womens rights and any positively influencing benefits they can get from stances of law or public perceptions to personal opportunities. They will focus on those gains irrespective of whatever injustice or penalty implemented on any other individual who do not come under their umbrella of protection which is just women. Feminism Hijacking themselves as the only voice of equality in the world when they are so blatantly pro womens benefits even if it comes at the cost of men having to acquiesce theirs is the real crime here.
Some or most of them successfully managed to and still try to vilify any groups belonging to the male gender that do not follow their architecture of equality.
We should have a group for womens rights and mens rights with equal representation.
[–]14446368 6 points7 points8 points (1 child) | Copy Link
This person is closer to a sheep. No one can ultimately take "your rights" away. Only weaklings that aren't willing to defend their rights, or exercise them regardless of law, would ever think this.
(I'm willing to bet, however, that she's referring to abortion, and that somehow limiting this in even the slightest way makes the whole country the handmaid's tale).
[–]alclarkey 2 points3 points4 points (0 children) | Copy Link
I'm 99% sure that's exactly what they are referring to. They are worried about their "Reproductive health" or their "feminine rights", is just weasel wording for abortion.

The part about how men won't understand really upset me because the irony is that they themselves don't understand what the average man goes through. Like I don't understand do they think we literally walk outside with all the rights and privileges in the world? Insanely skewed perspective. Jesus christ and the amount of up votes and awards. How do people agree with this? Feminism is truly fucking up a whole generation of innocent women man.
[–]fgyoysgaxt 6 points7 points8 points (0 children) | Copy Link
This is simply not true, most men intensely fear losing their rights, and are willing to fight to keep them. It frustrates that women feel they have the authority to speak for a man, let alone for all men.
I think this post is just another case of making a vast generalization just to support a sexist idea.
To be more precise, this is an extension of the objectification of men - the specific man that OP spoke to is denied their individuality, and men as a whole are treated as fungible; "oh one man thinks this, that couldn't possibly be attributed to their personal opinion, instead all men must think this because they are interchangeable". This is the same logic that is used to oppress men every day and has lead to dozens of millions of deaths over the past century.

Yeah this post irked me a bit too. And to be clear, I understand where they are coming from, this is a real issue they’re discussing and It’s a shame that it is, but then again I think what’s missing is the fact that this is an issue that is centric to being a woman, and it seems easy to understand that a man would have trouble understanding that since he isn’t a woman, and likewise. What irks me is that, as people have pointed out, she judges all men based on the interactions with one person and that based on this she assumes all men have their heads in the clouds and a twisted worldview.

From my perspective I’d disagree, to a point. While women have made tremendous progress and men are still left lacking, we’re all human and we all face adversity. I’ve seen examples of what they are talking about in my personal life. I think it embodies the concept of “bad but better,” as in, woman may have struggles and adversity but it’s better than it was previously.
I think it’s important that our fight for men’s rights doesn’t impede our concepts of women’s rights, I mean we’re all human and I’d like the betterment of everyone. It’s not men against women is society against archaic and inappropriate gender roles and their effects.

Most women will view you as an appliance, nothing more. This is why the idea of going your own way is so liberating. We are socialized to care what women want. We evolved to be providers and protectors. Socially, if we all collectively took our balls back, things would change.

I don't know about all that. That sounds like the same mentality this woman has. We should keep our balls about us, but assuming women see us as appliances is wrong, morally and literally.

[–]UnconventionalXY 2 points3 points4 points (0 children) | Copy Link
Many years ago, when domestic appliances came onto the scene, women would often stamp their feet when a machine didn't do what she wanted.
I believe that was a case of women thinking machines were like men, whom they could control through their theatrics.
Now it seems that perspective has been reversed, with men being considered like machines with no feelings, that women can use or abuse for their own ends, without any concern. Women now think that a man who hurts their feelings can not only be shut down but sent to the scrap pile.
[–]ThisIsTheEnd6 -5 points-4 points-3 points (25 children) | Copy Link
Is attacking 'most women' any less pathetic than the posts on TwoX complaining about 'most men'?
I wish the MGTOW crowd would complain about women in their quarantined area so this group could focus on rights and progress.
[–]oedipusplatypus 14 points15 points16 points (5 children) | Copy Link
Show me where the attack is. I voiced my take on things and when challenged, offered up some of the research that lead me there. Confirmation bias is frowned upon in any real discussion, yet these echo chambers are all we have on social media. I could be right. I could be wrong. The difference is that I'm willing to have this discussion without making personal attacks or assuming to understand the psychology of a stranger on the internet.
[–]FunkyJ121[S] 2 points3 points4 points (4 children) | Copy Link
Look at your first sentence. "Most women view men as an appliance." Have you asked every woman her opinion?
[–]oedipusplatypus 18 points19 points20 points (1 child) | Copy Link
That's ridiculous. It's common practice to develop a composite of a group. It's called statistical generalization. If I find it statistically probable and I have experienced such a thing repeatedly, how do your feelings refute a trend? I know women who are not like this, but they are a minority and I don't like to gamble. I'd like you to wrap your head around the concept of female hypoagency and see if it has any credence.
I don't intend to use it as a cudgel, but I am an engineer. My background is based in math and science. I must divorce my feelings from data or I wouldn't be good at my job. Two decades in, I am pursuing a second career in psychology. I'll ask that you put this together and judge for yourself if I'm being rash in my generalization. Having studied philosophy, I am familiar with Descartes and the idea that everything we know is potentially incorrect. I understand epistemology (what it means to know something) and a priori/a posteriori. My observations are rooted in experience and the data I have seen. I ask that you take a step back and question your own assumptions as I do. There is no doubt I have a bias, but the things I say and express are rooted in data.
Let's play a game, shall we? Approximately 80 percent of divorces in the US are initiated by women (you'll find some variance in this number) and women get custody of the children approximately 90 percent of the time. Women also overwhelmingly gain financially when divorcing. Also, look at the reasons given for divorce and decide if they seem reasonable.
I'm done commenting here. I have a bathroom remodel to figure out and responding to this, as much as my ego wants to, is not accomplishing that.

They're a hate-filled group and they aren't actually about going their own way. They're just like the feminists they condemn, but I feel bad for the guys who get into such as group because men don't have many support groups as it is right now. It's interesting to see the hypocrisy and generalized statements used to attack a group of people that don't really hold up once you do more research.
[–]World952 2 points3 points4 points (13 children) | Copy Link

[+]throwaway11456670 points [recovered] (12 children) | Copy Link
I am addressing MGTOWs blatant hatred towards women and these statements that may appear to be logical, but don't hold much weight after research and are just being used to fuel the hatred towards women even more. I dislike radical feminists as much as MGTOWS. They always come at each other despite acting the exact same way and are just hate driven.
[–]World952 4 points5 points6 points (11 children) | Copy Link
Difference is radical feminists control western society and have all the power, they are the majority of feminists. Hell this sub (not exactly MGTOW) is seen as an incel sub by the rest of reddit.
MGTOW are sick of feminist bs and can get hateful but they don't have any influence in the first place.
[+]throwaway11456672 points [recovered] (10 children) | Copy Link
I would not say that radical feminist ideas are in complete control in real life, or at least as much as people make it out to be they are just the loudest ones right now, and have seemingly good ideas (which as we know have gotten out of hand with some feminists). The internet can get crazy and both sides of whatever debate will have the radicals be the ones that are the most noticed, and those ideas will spread like wildfire since people can say whatever on here and there are many impressionable minds.
I don't really know what you mean by that when there are so many non-feminists, or at least people who aren't the man-hating radicals we're talking about in power. There are plenty of logical people keeping the anti-equal radicals in check, like a "counterbalance" (MGOTWs, right wing/conservatives in power, liberal feminists, etc). I would say Liberal feminism has more power than radical feminism thus far based on their ideologies and definitions.
I can find MGTOWs everywhere like radical feminists, and the movement I suspect is growing. I'm not sure if it's only because of feminism though, as a lot of MGTOWs were hurt young men looking for a place to go, so part of it is to be anti-female (not the same as anti-feminist). While I don't like either group, they are sort of needed to keep each other in check.
MGTOWs are still a toxic group, and that doesn't change regardless of how loud radical feminists are. I feel for the men who are forced to go "MGTOW" because there aren't many support groups for men, or healthy and positive ones at that. The MGTOW hatred towards women isn't really justified, but we can see why it happened.
[–]World952 2 points3 points4 points (9 children) | Copy Link
Its not just the internet. Even universities/schools and major companies have been poisoned by dumb feminists. Not to mention entertainment. They control the narrative. That's why there is almost no coverage of Men's issues or problematic feminists, instead its "women good, men bad".
Liberal feminism is radical feminism. Liberals these days push the anti men stuff, not conservatives who are the only ones who dare to talk about feminist hypocrisy.
MGTOW is growing because of feminism 100%, it wasn't this big in the 90s-2000s when things were normal. But in the last 10+ years things have gotten out of hand in the US (and UK etc.).
Birth rates are also declining because of feminists (but no one wants to admit it).
[+]throwaway11456673 points [recovered] (8 children) | Copy Link
Men's issues and going MGTOW/taking the red Pill aren't the same. I am in full support of addressing men's issues (they are human too, obviously), but MGTOW is not the way to go for a healthy and non-toxic support group.
Radical feminism is not the same as liberal feminism. They have their differences, and Liberal feminism based on it's definition has had more of an effect (and has more power) in society overall vs radicalized feminist ideas. There are more radical feminists these days, but liberal feminists have had more of their goals accomplished overall. That is slowly changing, as the liberal feminist ideas are being taken apart due to questioning of equality or favoritism towards specific groups of people.
I've seen plenty of news channels/youtube videos, websites, etc asking if feminism has gone too far and either condemning it or debating the crazier feminists only for them to get shut down. There is a lot of discussions around toxic-feminism and counter movements, particularly from outlets similar to FOX news or the Daily wire. Radical feminists do have a strong presence and narrative, but so do their opposites and there many that are choosing to not buy into the toxic ideas.
I will agree that men are often hated on and antagonized, which is why, while I don't like MGTOWs, I believe that they are a necessary group to fight back against the dangerous feminist ideas. People are questioning what is truly equality and "empowerment" instead of getting caught up in the hype. We are making more progress towards men's issues being addressed, but we aren't completely there yet, and I hope that the one good thing that can come out of the MGTOW movement is people seeing that men need better spaces to go to, and lots of them.
Both conservatives and liberals have annoying and crazy people, and make attacks and generalizations about each other that they also have.
Most of conservative vs liberal interactions are just a bash fest, and depending on what side you lean more towards, you see the others as "illogical" or inferior. Neither group is really superior in terms of "who's the realist and most logical".
There are lots of liberals who speak out against feminists being hypocritical, but more conservatives speak out about it as it doesn't line up with their ideas. Of course they're going to want to denounce the ideas that are against theirs more. I could see the same thing happening with conservatives with ideas that contradict each other being called out by liberals more because it makes the opposite side look worse. That's just how a lot of politics are in the modern climate, and I won't get more into that because I'm discussing MGTOWs and radical feminists, not liberals vs conservatives.
Feminism is a huge part as to why MGTOW is growing, but it's not the only part as they are also actively a misogynistic group that goes after not only feminists (the primary reason they are growing), but all women. Like I said before, this part of the MGTOW movement has to do with a lot of these men being hurt or having bad past experiences with women, alongside the detest for radical feminism.
I don't see what birth rates has to do with this conversation?
[–]World952 1 point2 points3 points (7 children) | Copy Link
Men wouldn't need to go MGTOW if there wasn't an obvious anti men agenda being pushed everywhere. You know that even this sub where most aren't MGTOW is seen as some sort of toxic incel sub right? instead most of reddit prefers r/MensLib where cucked men constantly hate on their own masculinity and let feminists dictate on how they should live
Also youtube videos don't matter at all. None of the mainstream media has talked about problematic feminists and Mens rights in the past 10+ years at least. Fox news and daily wire are not taken seriously by most people and bashed all the time.
I don't see any progress towards men's issues. Even if feminists pretend to care about men's issues its only so they can blame that on the "evil" patriachy too. Not their own hypocrisy. Things are worse now for men in the west than ever before in history.
Conservatives can be dumb (like with the whole covid denial bs or worshipping Trump) but they are still far more pro men than liberals, that's just the harsh truth. You yourself said only Fox news and daily wire (both conservative) talk about problematic feminist stuff.
Where are these liberals speaking out against feminists? lol, have never seen them.
Birth rates declining has to do with feminists taking over as well. Obviously they don't admit it but once feminists started to go after men (which made meny MGTOW) and destroy the traditional family they declined. And its a real issue for western countries

Just wanted to point out that pretty much everything in modern life is outside of what we evolved to do. We used to evolve genetically to survive. Now we evolve socially to make this a better place.
[–]oedipusplatypus 0 points1 point2 points (2 children) | Copy Link

[–]Deceptikhan42 0 points1 point2 points (1 child) | Copy Link
Pretty damn good but it depends on your perspective. We live longer than humans ever have before. We can communicate across the planet. We can fix the human body, we can replace body parts using donor's. Cure diseases. Develop new vaccinations for a previously unknown virus in a single year. My country has a charter of rights and freedoms that establishes my irrevocable rights.
Sure it isn't perfect, but you have to go a LONG way back to find a time when humans lived by natural law.
[–]oedipusplatypus 0 points1 point2 points (0 children) | Copy Link
I would agree that we live in the best time in history. I think our attitude towards each other could really use some work. Arguably, the world becoming closer creates some really interesting echo chambers where some odd and antisocial ideas are fostered. To immediately decide we know everything about a stranger based on something arbitrary is a long held tradition which has its roots in evolution.
It is certainly a fascinating time to be alive as well. I don't have time to go down that rabbit hole presently.
I have some possibly misguided fears about where we're heading. I think our excessive reliance on technology will prove to be our fall. I don't think we're evolved enough socially to operate in large groups effectively.
Life is absurd (in the existential sense). Each of us has an opportunity to explore that and to realize that we are fundamentally ignorant. Unfortunately ego defenses get in the way of that. When I challenge people here, there are two opportunities. The first is to test the validity of my own beliefs. The second is to offer that opportunity to others.
Thank you for being reasonable.

Well, if I didnt grow up female and I don't understand, then that shoe fits you too and you don't understand the shit I went through because I was born male. Maybe they could take thier own advice and shut up for five minutes and just listen with an open mind.

Seems like people are losing empathy these days. So many people are of the mindset "they arent me so they wont understand". This mindset has spread to being used for everything from race to gender, with people feeling they cant understand or sympathize with someone elses position because of an immutable characteristic. I think a symptom of this is the huge push for female / none white leaders. Theres nothing wrong with diversity in leadership, but having their race/ gender being the factor that dictates your vote is dangerous and tribal
[–]BloodyTamponExtracto 2 points3 points4 points (0 children) | Copy Link
But even that is just a talking point, not reality. The people who say we need more females in leadership positions; do you think they're happy with Amy Barret Cohen on the Supreme Court? Do you think they voted for for Sarah Palin for Vice President?
They don't want women in leadership. They want women who agree with them in leadership. They also aren't opposed to men who agree with them in leadership.

Anyone who legitimately believes the Handmaiden's Tale or whatever hate fuel these women love is a plausible reality in the developed world is intentionally exaggerating and full of shit. And on the topic of abortion (which I'm guessing is what this woman references), women are just as likely to be pro-life as men, if not more so. So in feminist terms, "they're doing it to themselves".
I'll tell you about some rights of men being infringed though: voting rights are taken away from felons who are often in prison for non-violent drug possession, even rehabilitated felons who are just trying to carve a life for themselves. Almost all of these are men. Male genital mutilation is widely accepted in the U.S. Men sign away their lives in the draft, women do not.

The problem was that you talked to male feminist. He's been conditioned probably since birth and early childhood to be obedient to women even at his own expense. He's enslaved to that mentality. It is a mental prison that uses men's own biological imperatives against them. And by taking up the mantle of male feminist ally, he has also proven that he is willing to sell out his own gender and own interests to curry favor. Sadly there are far too many men out there that have fallen into that trap or willingly made that trade.
There are plenty of men who are willing to fight for men's rights. But they have by and large learned not to show themselves because they are treated as the enemy by society itself. There are entire government funded agencies dedicated to opposing men's rights. And all of these male feminists will also turn on their brothers if they advocate for men's rights in order to earn brownie points.
And then there are also plenty of men who have simply given up. They know their rights are constantly being eroded, but concluded that there's nothing they can do to stop it.
This is the order that women have created. Your predecessors fought for this. Men no longer have the political capital to fix this. Please try to understand that. You're being unfairly judgemental by blaming men for conditions that were forced upon them.

Men don't defend rights of all men to fully have happiness and everything. Men defend a hierarchy of ranks, which was created by women. So patriarchy generally never existed. It was always a gynocentrism, where women basically ruled everything, and men were their slaves/simps who did everything what women wanted. Including a "toxic masculinity", it's just what women sexually want from males. 🙏
