Q4W: Can you see why society's sudden pivot on whether or not beauty standards had moral implications (seemingly right after OLD exploded) would make men angry?

I can't speak for the men of any other generation, but I think every Millennial man will back me up in saying that, even before we were capable of feeling sexual attraction, we were bombarded with messaging that we needed to critically examine our beauty standards on an ongoing basis in order to protect women and girls from low self-esteem and body dysmorphia.

We were told to constantly interrogate and, if possible, lower our standards, all as part of an ongoing effort to meet women (who we were taught were the magnanimous, non-superficial sex) in the middle. If a D cup was our ideal boob size, we were told that we should seriously assess whether we could be okay with a C cup, a B cup, or even an A cup, for example. We were told that women did not judge our looks with the same harshness with which we judged theirs, so we had a moral obligation to attempt in good faith to lower our standards to protect the feelings of these morally superior beings who primarily cared about what was in our hearts.

Fast forward to the late 2000s and early 2010s, when OLD laid bare that women care at least as much about looks as men do. After decades of mental work trying to channel our attraction in a way that was sensitive to women's bodily insecurities and imperfections, we hoped the message from society in reaction to this revelation would be something like "Hey men, sorry for treating you as if you were uniquely superficial among the sexes. Women are now morally accountable to critically examine their own beauty standards."

Even "Hey men, sorry for demanding that you needlessly scrutinize your beauty standards. They are now considered personal preferences with no moral implications, and we will never bother you about them again" would have been tolerable.

Instead, society just quietly changed the rules to accommodate women in the face of this revelation, with zero accountability to men for all the time and energy we wasted trying to morally guide how we express our attraction towards people who are not and have never been expected to critically examine their attraction, or lack thereof, to us. Suddenly, contrary to the decades of societal scolding that men were subjected to, beauty standards were declared to be merely personal preferences that were non-negotiable and beyond all criticism.

Ladies, I'm not blaming you for this situation, but can you see why we men would be irritated and angered by it? Wouldn't you be angry if the rules on some issue were changed the moment that the previous rules, which were once weaponized only against you, finally could have been conducive to empathy towards you?

I don't entirely understand why or how is it that rateme subreddits, looksmaxxing subs, and subs like r/amIuglyBrutallyHonest or r/amiugly have it where men hardly get any attention while women get loads of it. Is this really proof that women are seen as being much more physically attractive than men even if the man and the woman would be equally as attractive?

Why do people still absolutely insist that an attractive guy needs a good personality to have long-term success with women? This whole "good looks only get you through the door" thing.

I think nobody argues that lots of women with bad personalities (mean, lazy, entitled, neurotic, dumb etc.) still easily manage to have long term relationships. Why? Because their men are attracted to them. So why should it be different for attractive men?

The notion that a man's good looks alone could not possibly satisfy women, because they are "deeper than that" or some such, is just prime "women are wonderful" bias.

Anyone who's been in high school recently, are girls being told to be careful with their standards, lest they cause boys to mew, hammer their faces, or seek leg-lengthening surgery? Twenty years ago or so, we were definitely told that, lest we give the girls anorexia or bulimia.

Being more attractive than someone is ungodly effective to get them to “develop feelings” for you within a few hours. However, if someone ignores Tinder’s beauty standards, and just goes with “be 8 inches taller & a bit better looking than a woman facially”, then I think guys would usually be about correct for who would be open to their advances.

Part of the problem is that most women don’t flirt with most guys on first sight. In my experience, about 3 hours alone is enough for someone to “develop feelings”, or if the couple met on Tinder, sleep with each other. If a guy has good dating banter, but isn’t amazing in group social contexts, then he can probably reliably get women just by hanging out alone with them for a bit if he’s sufficiently good looking enough. The actual group social skills required to attract women, such as being good at a sport or something, is rather costly, compared to just talking to people.

One interesting corollary of the Blackpill is that, if you’re better looking than women, then you’ll get the same autistic result over and over again, especially with extended time & trust beyond one date off the internet. This is one reason guys shouldn’t hang out alone with their girlfriend’s sisters or friends (especially when she’s single). It’s really easy to get women going by accident when you’re sufficiently better looking than them, and most women hang out with similar looking women as themselves.

Saw an ista-reel the other day that just confirmed what I've always believed.

Guys get into looksmaxxing these days bc they are increasingly unable to excel in the other criteria that are traditionally (and currently) what women still value, like status and social competence. When you have no hope of ever becoming rich or successful and you are on the spectrum or stunted developmentally with anxiety, what else do you have but to try to max out your looks.

This affects women as well, as entire younger generations grew up terminally online with little IRL interaction with the opp sex and our economy is making it harder to be financially stable much less rich, but it hurts guys much more than women. From the other end it's women having a much smaller pool of successful, higher status guys with attractive fleshed-out personas to choose from in addition to the ubiquity of OLD so ofc they're going to have to just go for the prettiest guy. It's also not a surprise a lot of these women end up dissatisfied, b/c they were forced to pick based on looks alone and then realize eventually that's not what they ever wanted.

While both are shallow and cringe, it's not a coincidence guys who try to money or career-maxx are much more "normal" and guys who are steeped in the blackpill lingo are of the degenerate autist variety commenting behind anonymous or anime profile pics.

Hello everybody,

A small rant about "average man/woman" discussion here. I am tired of being accused of having high standards because I would not date "obese or old women". This is such a ridiculous argument. If anything, if only these two cases make a woman below average, women are in a much better position compared to men. Because men are also get old and can be obese. But there is so much more, like height, hair, musculs, we can't hide imperfections with make up, our clothing options are limited and don't impact as much.

Attraction is more than just the physical.

The physical form will change year over year, month to month, and even day to day.

Relying on looks will result in being disappointed in 5 years when their looks change.

And the men would flood the comments with “DO YOU KNOW how hard it is to achieve this body type? It’s literally impossible and requires so much work omg it’s over”

They’ll say this about literally any body type women are into. Even tho these body types are achievable via gym even if it’s hard, they’re still within their control.

Truth is men don’t care if it’s something in their control or not, they just wanna complain and act like they’ll never be attractive.
