the funny thing i came to realize about n count as i got older is that there are often so many other, better indicators? checkboxes ? for if someone is a good match for you.

like n count is a piece of information, sure, but as a discreet number it really can mean a lot of wildly different things. you can have 2 people with the same n count with completely different lives and experiences because people aren’t defined by their body count.

my n count is low (2 including my current boyfriend, and i’m 24) but i wouldn’t be a good match for a lot of these n count obsessors. i like to party, i enjoy clubbing (yes even for girls night), i dress revealing. i take loyalty very seriously, i just like to have a good time.

on the other hand, my boyfriend’s count was technically higher than my “preference” but it didn’t matter bc he respected my desire to wait for sex while being exclusive and he shares my values.

One thing women get wrong about the N count discourse is that they think that men are saying that being promiscuous lowers their value as a human being, which is definitely not the case, what some men are saying is that being promiscuous is a deal-breaker for them when considering having a romantic relationship with that woman. Her having engaged in consensual sex with other people doesn't have any bearing on her value as a person. Just like being fat, fit, tall, short, black/white/brown etc doesn't define someone's worth, but all of them can be used as a metric for qualifying or disqualifying.

Now if the discussion proceeds to why it's a dealbreaker in the first place then that's a conversation you are not ready to have because then the rationality of all other preferences can be and should be investigated. And it's not acceptable that they get a free pass from scrutiny and this particular preference must be killed and buried.

There's no body count double standard, well actually there is. It's way more acceptable for women to dislike a man for having a high body count than for a man to dislike a woman for it.
