Common advice I see thrown around is to pretend to be sexually open and non judgemental so that she'll lower her guard, and then maybe they'll mouth off gradually and/or eventually, and that even if not, at that point you can also ask and probe around, starting out by just talking about past relationships, then about guys she dated in general, etc, all while keeping the approving/sexually open facade.

I think this advice is kind of self defeating though since by pretending to be sexually open, then you're repelling chaste/sexually conservative women in the first place. Most likely you'll get highly inhibited, neurotic, frigid women who're hoes deep down. Which I guess many of the guys with n-count preferences are okay with tbf, if it's more about n-count than about actual chastity itself.

You can do all that, but if you're with someone who doesn't want to tell you the truth, they just won't tell you the truth. As I've gotten older, I've basically refused to tell any of the women I've been with exactly what my n count is. I'll speak specifically about a couple long relationships I had, I'll talk about "a few" other girls I dated, and I'll talk about "a few" girls I hooked up with. I'm not just going to come out and say I've slept with 50+ women. Based on how I phrase it, she could think it's just 5-10.

Women are just as likely, if not more likely, to do the same thing. There's no reason to acknowledge your real number, because there's no paper trail. If she had 3 hookups vs. 30 hookups in college, you'll likely never know the difference. At most she'll acknowledge a few guys she hooked up with. Statistically she's probably telling the truth, but you're unlikely to ever know if she's not.

Makes no sense. See, idk, the last 10 years of this sub. The fact that you are willing to wait to have sex with him but weren't willing to do it with a guy who fucked you casually is enough for most men to conclude that you would reject them for casual sex.

How is this relevant? It's not like she's complaining that he would reject her for casual sex. Only in that case would this question be relevant. I thought we're in the scenario where she wants LTR and doesn't want him to think she would reject him for casual. Are you discussing something else? In that case, define this new scenario to me.

Getting that intimate with a high # of people is bound to leave some issues imo.

Depends on how you view cause and effect, as well as what you define as an issue.

Maybe having many partners creates issues in otherwise normal/healthy people, or maybe people with issues tend to have many partners. I tend to believe that “issues” lead to high n count and not the other way around.

I also think the most common “issues” that lead to high n count are things like high risk appetite and a desire for novelty (fomo). You could argue avoidant attachment style is another. If you want a risk averse partner who doesn’t seek novelty, a high n count may be a red flag.

Also the worth noting that a low n count doesn’t mean that those same underlying issues aren’t present. A person who has those issues but lacked the opportunity to sleep with a lot of people still has the same issues as a person who did sleep with a lot of people.

Driving is a daily utility. People drive to work, school, hospitals it’s part of how society functions. Yes, accidents happen, and yes, people die. But no one drives because it’s risky. Risk is incidental.

Sex, especially in the context of a high body count, is not a social necessity. It's recreational, emotional, or relational. The risks include STIs, unplanned pregnancies, emotional damage, or relationship instability none of which are statistically significant risks in driving. It's not about body count equal bad, it’s about the cumulative consequences of emotional entanglements and poor judgment.

"Driving ruins more lives"? No. People don’t get depressed because their partner drove to Starbucks. But plenty of people deal with trauma, jealousy, broken families, and deep insecurity tied to sexual behavior whether their own or their partner’s.

Most people don’t choose drivers based on how many times they’ve driven. But many do care about their partner’s sexual history. That’s not misogyny or red pilled nonsense it’s human psychology, rooted in trust, bonding, and risk tolerance.

Trying to equate a mundane daily task with one of the most emotionally loaded and biologically significant human behaviors is retarded. If you really think a commute and a one-night stand carry the same kind of life impact, you might want to get your priorities in order.

You’re confusing types of risk. Driving involves physical risk tied to external factors traffic, weather, other drivers but the purpose is utility. Sex, especially promiscuity, involves psychological and relational risk. Emotional consequences, STIs, attachment issues, broken trust those aren’t side effects of driving to the store. Saying they carry the same amount of risk ignores what kind of risk we’re even talking about. That’s like saying eating spoiled food is as bad as sending a risky text technically, both have consequences, but not in remotely the same way or to the same areas of life. This isn’t a moral judgment it’s just understanding how different actions affect different parts of a person. You can downplay that if you want, but that doesn’t make it any less true

I just find it funny how the whole conversation around "body count" plays out. On one side, you've got people who care about it, and honestly, their reasons aren’t always as shallow as they’re made out to be. Sure, there are some who might be bitter because they’re struggling to get laid, but there are also people who genuinely see sex as something meaningful. Something tied deeply to emotional connection. For them, if someone’s been with a lot of different people, it can feel like it cheapens the bond they’re trying to build. And yeah, some guys just find high numbers off-putting or even straight-up gross. That might be harsh, but it's real for them.

Then you’ve got the other side. The people who don’t think it matters at all. Which is fine, but what gets me is how aggressively they try to defend casual sex. They get so defensive that they start mocking anyone who disagrees, painting them as some sad, bitter incel who’s just mad he’s not getting laid. Their entire argument often boils down to “It’s my life, I’ll do what I want,” which is fair, but it also comes with this smug, dismissive attitude. It's like they can't imagine someone having a different view without being pathetic or controlling.

At the end of the day, both sides tend to oversimplify each other instead of actually listening. It’s not always insecurity or misogyny on one side, and it’s not always narcissism or moral decay on the other. People just have different values and boundaries but good luck finding that kind of nuance in a Reddit thread.

lots of people prefer a very, very low n count. these people often hang out together and are in positions where their circles are of a similar mindset. i do think a lot, if not most, of the people who angrily complain about how women with body counts above x are “for the streets” are typically incels. unlike most people who have a strong preference for a very low n count, they dont put themselves in positions to actually be around these people. theyll try online dating, or other ways of meeting people that will obviously not select for people with low n counts, and essentially use the n count preference as cope for their lack of success, or conversely, have a really strong low n counts preference but do not do anything to be around people with low n counts.

either way, it seems like a very strong indicator of self sabotage, hence the incel assumption.

It's worth noting that these kind of guys often have uncommon "values" (being charitable and assuming these low n count preferences to come from a place of sexual morality and values rather than anything else). Those circles are most commonly circles of religious, traditionalist people. But many of these guys aren't particularly religious or traditionalist apart from n-count, so they don't want to hang out in those circles, nor even particularly want women who hang out in those circles. So, these are men who have values/preferences who are very particular and incompatible with many people, and that'll obviously cause them to struggle.

It can also happen to women in reverse too. Very chaste women who're otherwise pretty left wing (slow to trust men in order to become sexual with them, among others) and would never want a conservative man, will also commonly struggle as there's few men around with their particular set of preferences and values. Left wing men with no chastity preferences won't stick around for long without sex.

Sure, for some it's less important and I agree, it is a logical thing that, as you age, the "appropiate" number increases. Couse that's common sense. But humans are weird and common sense is not that common anymore. Also values, belief systems etc etc, all can drastically alter the opinion on the matter.

Having said all that, someone with a low n count might still desire a partner with a low n count. What can change is the acceptable number for that person compared to the previous preferance they had when younger (aka, when they were 20 they may have been ok with 1-2, while at 30 they may be ok with 4-5, both small n-counts).

My point is, generalizations aren't really usefull or correct.

Women in their 20s and older are generally unwilling to date or have sex with men who have had fewer than 1–2 partners.

Kinsey Institute researchers Dr. Justin Garcia and Dr. Helen Fischer conducted their annual Singles in America Study, a comprehensive study based on the attitudes and behaviors taken from a nationally representative sample of over six thousand participants. They found that 51% of women (compared to 33% of men) wouldn’t date a virgin.
Anderson & Surbey (2014) (PDF) explored whether women rate men as more desirable if they have been previously chosen by other women, a phenomenon known as mate copying. Using photo arrays of men shown alone or with one, two, or five female silhouettes, 123 female university students rated the men’s desirability. Results showed that men with one or two previous partners were rated more desirable than men with none, but men with five prior partners were rated less desirable, suggesting a tipping point where experience signals promiscuity rather than value. Co-author Dr. Ryan Anderson, a psychologist teaching at Monash University, was quoted having said, “Our results suggest that women do not always make mate choices independent of one another [and] there appears to be a significant desirability advantage for men who have been previously selected as a romantic partner”.
Stewart-Williams, Butler, and Thomas (2017) (PDF) discovered that women were significantly less willing to get involved with someone that has 0-2 past sexual partners than men are (pg.1101), hypothesizing that women are far more susceptible to mate-choice copying, avoiding men who’ve garnered little sexual interest from other women (pg.1103).
In the 2017 Dr. Ed survey of 1,000 Americans and Europeans, women in their 20s and 30s found men with fewer than 1–2 past sexual partners to be undesirable.
The 2016 Superdrug survey of over 2,000 participants found that women consider 1.9 past sexual partners to be the threshold for having too few.
Gesselman, Webster, and Garcia (2017) investigated how sexual inexperience in adulthood impacts stigma and relationship prospects. The research included three studies: a mixed-sample survey (N=560), a nationally representative sample of U.S. singles (N=4,934), and an experimental design with undergraduates (N=353). The researchers conducted three studies using surveys and an experiment: Study 1 assessed perceived stigma and norms among 560 adults, Study 2 used a nationally representative sample of 4,934 singles to measure willingness to date virgins, and Study 3 employed an experimental design with 353 undergraduates to test how varying levels of sexual and romantic experience influenced partner attractiveness. Findings revealed that sexually inexperienced adults perceived higher levels of stigma compared to their experienced peers, even more than those with many past partners. Men were generally more discriminatory toward virgins than women, and younger participants—especially younger men—were less willing to date virgins (pg.210-211). All the dudes in here are fighting a pointless war. The only n-count that matters for both genders is men when their n=0. Just look at all the threads in here about virgin men. the last n count weekly thread just gave me a revelation that explains how differently men and women view frequent casual sex.

While women revel in admitting that the men they hooked up with are more attractive to them than the men they consider LTR's with. For men its the opposite. LTR women have to be more attractive than FWB's. In fact they seemed to admit that the women who were their FWB were ugly and not attractive to them at all, and they just used them and saw them as a glorified flesh light's, not caring much for their pleasure or about them at all. They only cared for the pleasure of women they actually thought were attractive and had a chance at an LTR.

So pretty much (+and throw in some of Schrödinger's wave function Ψ) -
qualifications for FWB and casual sex with women: have to be smoking hot, top 20 percentile.
qualifications for LTR for women: attraction can be slightly mitigated and negotiated.

qualifications for FWB and casual sex with men: none, nil, can be very ugly.
qualifications for LTR for men: standards and attraction start to apply.

This also greatly explains why men shudder in fear at the thought of a women putting out for some random guy she just met, as apposed to the one she's been dating for a while. And why women cant wrap their head around n-count preferences, they don't understand from men's view point.

This can further be supported when looking at men and women's broad dating issues. Men seem to have problems with the idea of being settled for. While women have issues with getting the guy their attracted to commit to them.

If this is true it explains a lot of the relationship, n-counts and sex dynamics of the present day. The attitudes are completely different and should be tackled separately.

As a guy who's had plenty of casual sex and is friends with other guys who have as well, this hasn't been my experience. When it comes to women having casual sex (at least when they're young), one of the most critical factors is alcohol. Among college aged women, almost 90% of sex with stranger involves alcohol and the majority involves binge drinking.

With the exception of one guy (who may have still been a virgin when he graduated), every one of my friends from college had at least one hookup and most had multiple. This includes plenty of fairly average looking guys. In almost every case, they met the girls at parties when they had both been drinking. I'm not saying that's the way it should be, but it's the way it is.

I feel like men who struggle with women tend to assume that all men would sleep with any woman. That hasn't been my experience. I don't know of any attractive guys who sleep with ugly or even average looking women. I've had very good looking roommates and I see the girls they bring home. They're certainly not ugly or average. I swipe right about 3% of the time on dating apps, and that gives me more than enough options. Can't imagine wanting to sleep with a woman I'm not attracted to.

Often that guy is one and the same. Every LTR I've had since graduating from high school started as a hookup or sex on the first date, including my current girlfriend. So I'm the random guy she just met and I'm the guy she's been dating a while.

Both men and women prefer lower n counts, and some studies show a slightly stronger preference for low n count among women. I think it's more common for a woman to recognize that men prefer low n count than it is for a man to recognize that women prefer low n count.

You're right to criticize anything you want, although telling the couple in question that they're wrong might be rightfully considered nosy. I don't think that people that constantly and unpromptedly criticize preferences that don't affect them are happy with their lives, but a lot of the criticism that people receive for their preferences isn't unprompted because a) many preferences are also expressed in the form of criticism, and b) many preferences do affect the person in question.

If a woman says "I expect a rich husband that will take care of me unlike the stupid broke men that want to go 50/50", most men will bark back. Maybe 2-5% of my matches if I had to guess. I obviously don't have exact numbers. It's much more common in the 18-22 age group than the 23+ age group. It's rare but not nonexistent, so if you get plenty of matches, you'll find them.

Maybe it does become more likely with unattractive women, but I haven't tried. I swipe right about 3% of the time and that gives me enough matches. I actually agree with you that meeting in public somewhere is better. That's my preference these days too.

Why? I downloaded my tinder data because I was curious what they have about me. It shows how many times you swipe total and how many times you swipe right. It was a little under 3% for me. It also shows how many times you matched, so that's all there. It was pretty insightful. Also interesting is that every photo you've ever uploaded is still stored permanently. They also keep specific location data and other stuff. Overall pretty invasive just FYI.

Haven't done it with the other apps, but I'm guessing the data is pretty similar.

It's not though. Last time I hooked up with a girl in college was about a month before I met my gf when I was 26. At some point you probably age out of being able to hook up with girls that age, but I didn't hit that point before finding my current relationship. I don't know if instagram is harder in my experience. I think meeting a woman from instagram isn't any harder than meeting a comparably attractive woman from a dating app. Just my opinion.

I haven't tried the League, but I did try Raya for a few months. Overall wasn't very impressed. First of all, there's not free option, just a $25 and $50 a month option. The mandatory ID upload also felt sort of invasive.

Those things might have been okay if overall experience were much better than free apps, but it wasn't. One massive issue is that there are no distance filters, which is infuriating for a guy living in NYC. Going outside of Manhattan is a massive pain in the ass, so matches in CT, NJ, the Hamptons, and god knows where else are pretty much worthless. On other apps I use a 5 mile filter to prevent that, but you can't do that on Raya.

The quality of the women was underwhelming as well. The bottom 50% of women on Tinder and Hinge just don't exist on Raya, so it's better average quality, but that doesn't really matter, because I just swipe left on those women on the other apps anyway. On the other hand, the top 10% don't seem to be any more attractive than the top 5% on other apps. The majority of women are above average but not hot, with relatively normal jobs, education, etc. If a guy is picturing an app with nothing but instagram models, he'll be very disappointed.

Overall it just wasn't worth paying for, when I can get the results I need from other apps and instagram for free.

Those are everywhere, but they get pretty easy to spot. Living in NYC, there are like 10-20 of these bots that I would see every single day on tinder -- the same girls over and over again. Only swiping right on verified photos largely solves the bot problem, but you can still match with real women who are aspiring sugar babies or trying to sell something.

I don't see any instagram models really on tinder.

Might depend on how you define model. I've met plenty of women from dating apps who basically have a normal number of followers for an attractive woman (like around 3-20k), but those aren't influencers or anything. The only women I've met who fall into that category would be the one with 1M+ followers on instagram and the other one with a couple hundred thousand on tiktok. I also met an Olympic athlete with a pretty significant following, but not as large as those other two. In terms of women I've actually met, those three had the most followers.

What's notable though, is that those three were definitely not the hottest women I've ever been with. The hottest ones were basically normal college girls with less thank 10k followers. So being an "instagram model" doesn't necessarily make someone more attractive.

When men sit across from women and ask them their N count you can just see that hamster wheel turning in his head thinking up how he's going to judge the poor girl.

In the end a high N count should never be reported to a man who thinks this is a really important factor for a long-term relationship. This is because it might be used to keep women from a mutually beneficial marriage and jeopardize her future.

A woman's N count should not include partners with only with only the following activities:

FIV
MOV
HJ's
TF's
Anything experimental

Let's take it a step further:

Her N count should not really include any intercourse partners she was with less than two months. Why? Someone that temporary in her life is often not someone she wants to remember.
Only serious relationships should really count in N count. Those are the ones that meant something.

When I was dating only once did a man accept my offer to pay half. He was super douchey though, and yes it was a turnoff. Other than that even when a guy didn't ask me out again they always paid.

I don't think this point is related to my topic though because shaming of women over this goes to such a deep place of personal value. Even if a guy in the beginning acts like he accepts a number he can always hold it against her in the future by calling her cheap names in an argument.

Having a low N count is always better because most men won't be "the one," but I hate to see women losing their chances over men that were disappointments to her.

With the money thing, men can change how they are perceived by just paying out. No?

I realize paying for things is a sacrifice men make all the time. I thought they also like doing it though.

By all means remove the men from the count that didn't add anything to your life. Also anything not penetrative shouldn't count. FIV, although penetrative, shouldn't count either.

I really hate that body counts are used as judgment tools against women. There are even men that are virgins that are intimidated by a girl having any partners at all. I have a cultural background where even second generation girls in the USA are expected to be virgins until marriage.

I think virginity is a great thing if it's personally a value to someone, but it's overblown and unrealistic expectation for many women.

I don't think a man has to know the real number in that case. I would only count intercourse and probably remove a couple of names as needed.

I don't like it when men have really high body counts myself because it makes me think he didn't value the women at all. I would just rather not know how many he's been with and not ask. That avoids the problem. I really think men should just not ask.
