Is the assumption here that it's just men who need self improvement or men and women both? Apologies if I am wrong, but it seems to be geared toward men.

I find it problematic that our culture and society tells women there is nothing wrong with them and they are perfect as they are and should be treated as queens while the narrative for men is they should be on a never ending quest for self improvement.

Do you realize how toxic and harmful that is? It's never questioned either, it's just assumed to be true. It's like running on a broken treadmill(modern dating) and being given tips on how to improve your running

Why are there no cultural expectations of women in modern dating other than to show up and judge men

Can anybody help me come up with a weight lifting routine? I want to try to build some muscle but I've only been doing 50 reps on the squat machine of 90-110 lbs and I've tried rows but they are hard to get right. I go to the gym 3x per week. I'm female and I want to look more aesthetic but obviously nothing too crazy

If your mom likes your outfits the chances women your age will like your style goes way down. Don't go to your parents for advice, find other sources and just inform them about what you are deciding to do for yourself. Women are not at all attracted to child like qualities and someone who doesn't live for himself it going to give off anti sex vibes.

Self improvement is a fantastic tool for improving your life, however the space online has been taken over by incels over the last year or so who don't have any real intention of improving themselves, they spend their time complaining that all of the work they want to put in won't help because they're below 6ft tall and it's "over" for them.

The entire point of self improvement is realising the things that you cannot change, but rather focusing on the things that you are capable of changing.

On the one hand, often self-improvement is a response to media and capitalist pressures that benefit from people believing they are inadequate. People who feel that they’re not good enough as they are are open to purchasing solutions, whether that’s a quick-fix like a new lipstick or a long-term fix like a gym membership. They also become more open to making self-soothing purchases to ease the discomfort of feeling bad about themselves.

On the other hand, one of the best opportunities afforded us on this planet is the chance to learn and grow, so I can’t be too harsh on the idea of self improvement and personal growth. I think it takes effort and time and self-reflection to sort the wheat from the chaff and curate your own growth in directions and areas that are genuinely the most meaningful to you.

Normal people don’t have to “self-improve” to get a partner. So if you find yourself needing to “self-improve” because you want a partner, then you’re not normal and there’s something wrong about you that is a red flag. There’s many reasons why a normal person would need to self-improve, but dating is not one of them.

Pretty sure self improvement is mostly a lie told to men. I've completely changed my life around since my 20s, but I still only get interest from shitty women just like before. It's clear to me that pushing self improvement is a subtle way to say that men are the problem.
