I want to discuss a dynamic I first picked up on about a year ago. I’d see an average looking or fat woman on social media post a picture and in the comments she’d be described as beautiful, gorgeous, sexy, etc by other women. Now one may think these comments were coming from other average and fat women but they weren’t, many were coming from above average and slimmer women.

Now you could say that they were just being positive and supporting other women, and you wouldn’t be necessarily wrong. However, many women feel the need to compete with each other constantly. Calling an average woman pretty means that an above average woman is considered damn near beautiful. This plays out all the time and I believe is part of the reason why over half of women believe they are top 20% worthy.

Things get ugly when the average and/or fat women get more attention than other women feel they should. They take it as a slight against their looks since they really find the fat/average women to be no where near as attractive as them. I’ve seen this break up numerous friendships and cause many fights/arguments.

Do you disagree? Are these women complementing others in the name of body positivity? Do they really view women that are less attractive than them as beautiful?
