I think there needs to be a distinction between actual criticism of a policy, situation, or well known feminist saying something misandrist, and hypothetical jokes that paint this subreddit as if views all feminists by the most extreme.

Feminism is equality from a women's rights perspective. Masculinism is equality from a men's rights perspective. Undermining real feminism, which supports equality, is contradictory if you believe in men's rights for any reason other than male superiority.

If you don't want to be part of the problem, be an egalitarian. Feminists are just doing what you're doing from their point of view and you shouldn't knock that. There are just a lot of stupid 'feminists' who think feminism is just a hating men and complaining club. I care more about men's rights than women's because there is far more exposure for feminism, and issues directly affect me more. That doesn't mean I show disrespect to feminists who don't deserve it.

I first saw the linked post on /r/SRSsucks, which is a far better place for it than here.

Also, /r/Egalitarianism and /r/Feminism. Contrary to popular belief around here, feminists don't sit around all day brooding with penis envy plotting how to win every custody battle ever.

You missed the entire point of that image, by the way. It was not about other rights movements, but about how feminism is a victim ideology that co-opts those movements. At least once a month someone makes a post about how they think the subreddit should talk about what they think is important. There are lots of threads that are doing what you think this subreddit should be doing. If there is a thread that isn't doing what you think we should be doing, suck it up. We aren't a collective with one opinion, and when an opinion contrary to yours shows up, it doesn't mean there is something wrong.

I think the upvoted submission was fantastic, not necessarily as a criticism of feminism, but more as a criticism of a particular style of justice activism: that of attempting to silence or homogenize anything that I-don't-like. It serves as a warning to us.

It's satire, it's pretty light not particularly hateful or hurtful, it's just pointing out some of the absurdities queer/feminist culture. Hey, guess what? While exaggerated, he's not off the mark. One of the major notions of modern queer theory and feminism is that gender and gender roles are constructs. Frankly, some of the people constructing queer identities are making a mess out of it, but no more than heterosexual cis-males (or as I call them, men) have over the millennia dealing with their masculinity (and less murder, prolly).

About the story: Comical, but ridiculous. I like to think that the story was meant to be made to warn of the dangers of feminist supremacists, not to describe any truthful sort of possibility.

On the topic of Men's rights: As a masculist, I believe it is our duty to police ourselves and project a positive and welcoming portrayal of the masculist community; one that espouses both positive masculism and positive feminism, reaching a fair and honest scientific and moral consensus. That being said, as there will always be an extreme element in the feminist group, so too will there always be an extreme element in the masculist group. The best we can all do is awaken to this reality and downvote such images to hell and below. The story itself is funny, but the context it was originally portrayed in (as a description of all feminism) was wrong.

My, perhaps naive, understanding of feminism is that everyone is valued, and taking care of each other is preferable to fighting, conflict, and war. I'm not going to pretend to be some bigshot veteran of the MRM, but when I joined r/mensrights, there were about 10,000 people on here. While it's great that in about half a year, we've almost gotten six times as many subscribers, it also drastically increases the chance of people misunderstanding the message or becoming part of fringe groups. I even stopped reading r/mensrights for a while, I wasn't liking the direction that it was headed. Let's hope that in 2013 we can take a big step in the right direction and get something done for the MRM, that's what we're here for, let's not forget that.

Just because it's part of another movement, doesn't mean that it should be free from criticism. There are some aspects of the LGB movement which are heterophobic and hateful. There are aspects of gynocentric movements which are childish or overly sensitive. There are aspects to the trans movements that are completely bigoted, irrational or delusional. These movements shouldn't just be free from reproach simply because they exist or because they are made politically correct by their association to feminism/women; especially not when they make it a perpetual focus to demonize, vilify or attack heterosexual men.

I see nothing wrong with mocking Feminism. Sometimes humor can be used to highlight truths in a more thought-provoking way.

Sure, you can write a dry paragraph to counter Feminist ideas, but it may not titillate the interest of as many people.

Of course, we do need to focus on creating serious discussions and literature to counter the bad information put out there by Feminists. Which is exactly what many people within the men's rights movement are doing. There's a vibrant community on YouTube and other online spaces, and I believe some of it may be making it's way into academia too. Which is a great start.

Speaking for myself. I don't hate Feminists. It's their ideology I hate. I see it bring out the worst in people, I see it undemocratically bully society into embracing it's terms, and I see it create dire societal problems that effect everyone. Whilst it's my most immediate position that Feminism hurts men, I also see it effecting women negatively long term. If Feminists can do all of that, I see no harm in a little lite mockery in return.

Men's rights are human rights. The Anglosphere global elite are using feminism to undermine men's human rights as one of the means to destroy the middle class. A men's rights movement would not exist without the second-wave and third-wave feminist movement, because then you're talking about human rights. So it is entirely appropriate for MRA's to put a great deal of emphasis on feminism.

Perhaps, it could be best said that focusing any attention at all on something like this is counter productive. Personally, I looked at it, saw it for the sad, slanted attempt at "humor" that it was and moved on, completely unaffected by it.

In my opinion it seems that it was posted precisely with the intent to get a negative reaction (and, essentially, attention) from us and it seems that's what the poster got.Bucketh3ad does make an excellent point that, all too often, people on both sides are far too serious and that there is in both the feminist community and ours as well a distinct lack of a sense of humor.

Perhaps, if all of us adopted an attitude of "look at them and laugh" whenever some person with an agenda attempts to rouse us to anger and a response, perhaps it would be better to simply see it for the immature, trollish attempt at attention that it is, chuckle and go our merry way.

After all there are certainly far more important things that require all our attention than silly, immature barbs and jibes of that nature.

Also, please do trust others to see it for what it is, to understand that, in the end, it is just a childish scream for attention and nothing more.

Sometimes a laugh can help bring levity to what is oftentimes a fairly negative place. It's healthy to be able to laugh at something as obviously farcical as this. Having something on the front page other than the usual series of hateful, ignorant articles, personal tales of woe, or other stories of men and boys having their rights trampled makes this a more enjoyable place to come back to regularly. If someone gets offended, that's fine by me. Hurt feelings are the least of my worries, especially the feelings of those who would dismiss the serious issues that men face because they didn't like a joke they read here.

I could not agree more with this post. I'm a huge advocate for men's rights, and a huge advocate for feminism. I'd like to see more pro-men posts on this subreddit as opposed to anti-women posts. Men have plenty of issues of inequality to overcome in society in general without resorting to attacking feminism. The brand of feminism most people subscribe to is about gender equality, not man-hating. Men's rights ought to be under a similar vein.

I completely agree with you. I've been feeling lately, that this subreddit is really just hating on feminists and women. However, I am a woman and came here because while I am a feminist, I am also for men's rights. And I'd like to be able to be an advocate for both. But I feel there's much hostility towards women and it makes me not really want to be here. In fact I've been seriously considering unsubscribing from this subreddit.
