Hi, we are now starting to contemplate more seriously the possibility of divorce. I had to say a million times that if we want the marriage to work, we need to put effort in making it work. I think this is the “secret” for many of our parents and grandparents generation, to be honest: the idea that life is a lot about hard work, not that you can hop to a new marriage if it doesn’t work well. I not saying every marriage can be saved, but I’m saying that she is giving up without trying, and that baffles me.

Yes it is crazy. She was always the one to threaten divorce, no matter how insignificant the issue was. I was always the one to try and do the work to figure things out and work for the marriage. She would throw it away over a hurt feeling, or misunderstanding. I worked my ass off to stay married for the 4 years we were actually married. It amazed me at how little it actually meant to her after all that. Makes me sad that I put so much effort into something that clearly didn't mean as much to her.

I can totally understand. I've provided for my wife and kids for the last 17 years and didn't mind at all, I appreciated what she did so much! She quit a great career job after our first born, and I paid for her to go back to school part time and earn a master's degree in art. I helped watch the baby as much as I could so she could work on projects, I did night feedings so she could sleep, I helped edit/write papers, etc. I helped with the second child a ton too. She never did want to go back to work, although I always said she could if she wanted to, or could do something from home, but she wound up never pursuing anything. Now she's so full of resentment toward me because she didn't pursue her dreams that she says she feels nothing for me. She says I basically abandoned her and left her at home with the second baby so much that she gave up on ever having a relationship with me, and that was 9 years ago... She can't show any affection toward me now, doesn't want to talk about our relationship or do couples counseling - probably too late anyway. She said it's my fault for not noticing how she felt, but I did, I just didn't know what to do about it, was scared. I've been trying to fix things for 3 years, 3 therapists, a relationship coach, three online programs, support groups, six books, Gottman courses, etc, but she's just not willing to tear down the wall. So we live like roommates, and she's happy with the arrangement. Fun times.

your future is in your own hands. you don't need to marry anyone whose above 25 and has had 10 previous relationships. or even someone from your country, or ethnicity or even marry. Fuck who you want, don't engage long-term, get kids through IVF, surrogacy and keep a stream of females to keep you satiated. You got kids, and you got to have fun and focus on yourself. teach women, governments and the legal system a lesson. i wish this was just fantasy and i came up with this idea, but people are actively doing this.

Went to counseling for about a year a couple of years ago. STBX insisted it needed to be a woman and I think she thought she would get the "You are SO right about everything". That didn't happen but through all of it she simply won't/can't admit that the root of all of our problems is simply that she decided to make EVERYTHING in her life more deserving of her time and attention than I was. The counselor tried to show her the reality of what refusing to give ANY meaningful affection (let alone any type of a sex life) does to a relationship. I actually went to see her a couple for times on my own and she has actually said she can't believe how patient and accommodating I have been. The reason is simple.....I wanted to be living with my children until they were out of the house. The last few years I can tell my kids get what I am doing (even though they don't know how truly one sided our "relationship" is). I am sure she will act like an incredible victim even though she has basically been all about herself for the last 2/3 of the marriage.

My ex made up some crazy shit about me and ran my name through the ringer…told friends, family and anyone who would listen false stories so she could look “brave” and justified for leaving….who cares about our 2 kids, who cares that one day they’ll hear crazy shit about their dad (that’s not true) who cares we broke our home up for a selfish, covert narcissist who just wanted to have more $, better looking husband, better everything….it’s all worth it (for them) she made false CPS claims, crazy dumb lies, small to big…now I’m getting the “sorry things went that way” it’s just divorce…except I didn’t do anything like that cause I’m not a physco….I swear they need to change the legal system. I’m happy AF now but it’s taken me a year to get here…oh and she’s also dating my ex-best friend…can’t make this shit up….I try and help some of my buddies going through divorces, a lot of them do similar tactics. It even makes me 2nd guess “did they do that?”…all it takes, small women against a big man…she must be telling the truth and he’s a monster! According to her I'm abusive, narcicistic, neglectful, a bad parent, and a shitty husband. She fired our therapist, but she claims I wasn't willing to do therapy. It's laughable.

I confessed and repented my sins and inequities, some slower than I should have.

I apologized to her until I was blue in the face. I don't think she has taken responsibility for her actions once.

“Willing to give all this up”? And what you think is valuable to her is incorrect. She’s not giving up anything, she gaining more money that is legally hers now and she can be the independent woman she always wanted to be.

She might even say “I’m gonna just replace you with the better man I deserve”. (This was said to me a decade ago. She’s dated/banged a lot of men since then, and not one was a HVM. In fact I’m pretty sure she hasn’t had a relationship with a man that can “one up” me in life). I thought for years how mean that was and had poor self esteem over it. But I failed to notice I have done so much better in life in every area since the divorce. Yet I never want to get married again, and in fact, never wanted to be in a relationship at that! But a couple years ago I met a woman I thought would just be a good FWB. Come to find out she is actually a great woman. So now I’m in a very great relationship with a mentally healthy woman ON ACCIDENT, who’s head and shoulders better than my ex.

I believe any country that eliminates support will cut divorces by women by more than half. Child support should only be if one parent cannot or will not participate in the child's life. Spousal support should be completely be eliminated. No one should have should have to subsidize another adults life.
