i’ve seen males get attacked horribly in female communities for questions that im sure a female would have eventually asked. i think that female only communities are always in defense mode, and anything that goes “against the grain” is prime for ripping to shreds instead of actually countering and breaking down into a conversation. its upsetting, males and females even with polar opposite opinions can really benefit from healthy debates.

I'm going to go against the grain here and suggest it's a minority opinion vs. majority opinion effect.

Not that the majority opinion on reddit (feminist, misandrist, bigoted bullshit everywhere I go) is correct. Far from it. But, to people supported by the crowd, it feels correct; and more, nonthreatening. They don't need dissenting opinions, they've already got the crowd at their back.

And they don't need to open up for debate, or seek out minority opinions in order to resolve the issues they have with how society is.

Whereas people trying to point out the popular bias, the minority opinion, really do need to debate in order to change enough hearts and minds for it to matter.

It's not a 'male only' vs. 'female only' - in fact, some male interest spaces behave the same way. It's a "we need to convince" vs. "we're already right and everyone knows it" mentality.

People are comfortable in those biases.

This isn't new, and I would not put it on "female only communities".

The people driving these movements today, let alone funding and organizing these are neither representative, nor (contrary to their personal power fantasy day dreams) speaking on behalf of the female population.

There is a plethora of history of all kinds of men thinking they speak on behalf of all men or all "their" men (which was everything from tribes, to city-states, to nations) - most of them history remembers as delusional clowns. As will be the case with these "women leaders" of today.

Only few ever earned the respects, hearts and minds and really spoke and acted on behalf of - we have examples of that.

Call out and shine a light on the bad, but never give them the power they want, but do not deserve, by acknowledging them in this way.

These are not "female only communities". These are guided indoctrination and peer pressure operations.

As a woman who used to be feminist (looong time ago), women just hate any kind of confrontation, they can’t have a dialogue without acting condescending, calling you pick me, or insult you in other ways. I was raped when I was a child, that’s why I was in a feminist group about this topic, but with the “me too” movement it became bigger, and some cases that were presented and were public have literally 0 evidence and the victims were having contradictory testimonies, so I just questioned in a very respectful way. And they just banned me. I tried to talk with the leaders of the group and they just told me that they didn’t know why I had been banned. A lot of people like me ware also banned.

On Reddit, male spaces usually will have at least one woman so that they can keep the community in check.

A woman once tried to join Aba n Preach’s YouTube channel so that it would have a ‘female voice’ but they said no to her lol.

Basically there are a group of women out there who seem to live vicariously through other women and perceive any criticism to be a personal attack, so they always go on the defence. This is uncommon in men.

I have sometimes thought of this and might have given a different answer. Then I see the man who wasnt allowed to speak about mens issues on BBC, videos showing posters of kidnapped people in Israel torn down, videos of people from different groups fighting and suddenly it has turned into 1v5.

This is not a battlefield of logic (1/4 of homeless are women etc) this is an attack on western civilization and everything is allowed and it dosent matter that their actions yesterday contradict their actions today. It is about winning.

There was an article I read long ago that outlined the options we have for public discourse as follows:

Expect everyone who participates in the marketplace of ideas to abide by male standards, meaning you accept some level of abrasiveness and hurt feelings as the price of entry.

Expect everyone to abide by gynocentric standards, meaning we care less about truth and prioritize the emotional and mental well-being of participants in debates.

What we actually get in practice though is some monstrous hybrid of these two options, where rules of hyper-emotionalism are only instituted if they protect "historically marginalized" groups, while anything and everything can be done against "acceptable" targets (i.e. you're not human and don't deserve empathy if you're male, you're straight, etc).

As a man you really can't be critical of women in any way without being instantly called a misogynist. Once I was in a singles facebook group for awhile. I had a really bad date with this woman and basically it was a free meal for her even though I clearly only wanted to just meet her for a drink. She basically stuck me with bill after ordering a ton of food and just stared at me when the bill came. I posted up in the group asking if others have had this issue. The result was basically all the women in the group absolutely trashing me. What blew me away is that there were no MEN coming to back me up. They were all basically simps. I did get a few PM's from men after the fact saying they agreed with me. My only response to them was "wel then you should of spoken up in my defense" because instant messaging me after the fact is a cowards choice. I left the group after that. It was just toxic sad single people.

It's a difference in basic male and female nature. Women are much more driven towards consensus and conformity than men. This is clearly observable in all kinds of situations, including real life. It's hardly an online phenomenon only.

The fallacy, though, is thinking that all women are highly conformist and all men are highly independent/rational. This obviously isn't the case. There is simply a noticeable difference between the sexes on average, but plenty of overlap in behavior/attitudes as well. For instance, this very sub has many examples of echo-chamberness. As do all "male only" spaces. They just have less of it than "female only" spaces.

When talking about male nature vs female nature, words/explanations often fall short. It is like asking, "How is a cat different from a dog?" No explanation will be complete.

The best I can do to answer your question is that women are more about power, and men are more about collaboration. Male communities welcome new ideas because the community is working together to find the best answers. In contrast female communities see new ideas as a threat to their internal power hierarchy, and react by negating the threat (thereby reaffirming the power structure).

I think: - both are concerned about appearance, just for different factors. Priorities - women tend to prioritize looking good, being good mates. So they'll tend to shut down any mention of something that contradicts their image looking good. And they tend to follow most women's opinion. - which leads to competition among women. The smaller the pool of potential suitors (relative to their perceived number anyway), the more harsh their competition will be. - so echo chambers are their way to establish and keep their competitive place in the structure.

men tend to prioritize competence, above most things. Results over looks. Form follows function type of beliefs. Sometimes strength is prioritized, but only in certain cases (where strength is what leads to more success in that field...ie, fighting, sports, etc). Most cases though are rooted in expertise for that given subject.
so debates are open. Because the only one (among men) that fears debates are the ones that are afraid their competence won't hold up to scrutiny. This goes for every role in society.
but there's also a balance, an equilibrium point. Too much debate, and action is sacrificed. Too little, and optimal outcome is possibly sacrificed. This is why I believe tyrants and narcissistic men take control more often. They tend to end discussion early. Tyrants tend to not want open discussion, just rhetoric. But it's also why I think those people don't keep power for long. Poor outcome cultivates dissonance and rebelliousness, just as much as missed opportunities due to late reactions.

Men would naturally live a violent and short existence if we didn't learn to cooperate with each other and play nice sometimes. That isn't to say that there aren't men who are honorless dicks, but most adult men learn compassion, mercy and empathy because if men didn't show basic respect to each other, we'd be at each other's throats all the time.

On the other hand, while women are outwardly more nice on a daily basis, a woman scorned will turn into a merciless harpy super fucking quick, and there isn't a road too low for her to take. It is biologically ingrained in them that their own survival is paramount. The only thing that a woman might prioritize are her children, and even that's pretty iffy with some women.

I think there is a lot of positives to feminism. They do tremendous work in third world countries, they give women in some more restrictive states access to sexual health, and they have done a lot to support women working over the past 50 years and supporting themselves.

While there is bad, those are amazing accomplishments and I’m thankful feminism did them and is still doing them.

I mean this feels a bit like a leading question that could have been phrased better than "why do women suck compared to men who are the best?", but I'll try my best from my low level of understanding.

There definitely are still systemic issues and differences in how men are treated vs women and to say otherwise is foolish. Women are objectively more often ignored, talked down on, and have had their issues laughed at. This can make it feel like no one is listening and gravitate towards people who will listen, typically other like minded women. This isn't a bad thing, but it can mean that anyone bringing a different point than them feels like an enemy who is trying to stamp their feelings down rather than someone trying to offer advice or learn.

Compare this to men really haven't had as many issues over the years and have really only semi recently started discussing them. Given that men have much more representation in positions of power, and just in general are more used to respect for voicing issues, when someone rises to the contrary it isn't seen as an attack but more of a genuine question of belief to which one could be convinced to change

Women (in a combination of sociological and biological conditioning) hold space differently than men. They’re more communicative, and don’t necessarily expect questioning as much as validation and what many people would consider mindless echoing and chatter.

This isn’t to say that men wouldn’t benefit from that type of communication style, but it’s healthier to have a balance and to know beforehand if a situation is asking for “echoing” or conversation and debate.

I've been wondering myself, and it's not clear to me why.

One thing to note is that on male-dominated communities, if you post something that goes (sufficiently) against the majority opinion, you're going to get demolished by the userbase itself. The mods don't need to get involved, and users seem to prefer when mods take a hands-off approach, only dealing directly with the worst cases of rule breaking.

That doesn't mean male communities don't turn into "echo chambers", but dissenting opinions are silenced in a different way, after the fact, not preemptively, and they are allowed to remain visible, as well as the many counter-opinions.

The dominant opinion seems to emerge from the mass of users, rather than be imposed by a small group.

This is obviously not quite what you'd expect to happen if you believe the stereotypes about men being the authoritarian/hierarchy/good soldier types and women being more community/consensus-based.
