New dating manual should pep guys to break the loneliness

Guys are more lonely than girls and they rarely seek support when they feel bad. To help them take the first step, RFSU is launching a new dating manual.

“Everyone needs relationships to feel good, but many people find it difficult. We want to spread pep and security through solid tips on what to think about when you want to find a new relationship, says Christoffer Strokirk at RFSU.

The manual describes what to think about, during and after a date. It is about, among other things, how to create a good dating profile online, what questions you can ask on the date and how to move on if the relationship ends. It ends with tips on where to turn if you need more support, for example if you feel mentally ill.

“Every guy should feel that he can ask for help and that he is listened to when he seeks support, for example at the youth clinic. We hope that our guide can serve as a map there,” says Pelle Ullholm, operations strategist at RFSU.

The dating manual is one of several efforts RFSU is implementing to strengthen guys' mental health. In addition to the manual, there are posters and five films aimed at guys. The projects are funded by the Public Health Agency of Sweden and are partly carried out in cooperation with FSUM, the Association for Sweden’s Youth Clinics.
