Deep down these women have got to know it isn't empowering. They just have to.
Its the whole idea that men are going to continue to objectify us so lets just go with it as well and call it 'empowering'. No point in fighting back.

I was just reading how young women in sex work were aging out at 22. Real viable for long term 😒
[–]rhyth7FDS Newbie20 points21 points22 points 3 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Read somewhere majority only stay about 3-6 months because they are treated so terribly and competition is terrible. Doesn't even matter though because they always want new faces.
[–][deleted] 9 points10 points11 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Are you talking about porn? Anecdotal so keep that in mind, but the strippers I know that make a killing are usually older than 22 because they are better at manipulating older guys with money.

Had a feminist professor in college ask why we don’t celebrate sex workers and see them in the same light as women who are in medicine and law. Ummmmmm because getting into medicine and law is hard and not everyone can do it? Because one advances our rights and us as a gender and the other degrades us? Because there is a reason why that feminist professor wasn’t a stripper or prostitute herself?
I don’t get this need to normalize sec work or even compare it to other work. I don’t hear men shrieking “being a construction worker should be thought of just as highly as being a lawyer or doctor”. Know why? Because they don’t care! They get a paycheck and know that being a professional is seen as “higher” because you have to go through a fuckton of schooling, tests, and money to do it. And not everyone can do it!
Sex positive feminists are ruining things for women point blank.
[–]StevieBuckingham79FDS Newbie141 points142 points143 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Sex positive feminists are also muting all the women who have been coerced and beaten into sexual slavery/trafficking.
That is their foul deed.
Chant "sex work is empowering" like a silly twit. Fine. Sound like an idiot. Your choice. But do you not understand that you are erasing and muting the 98% of sex workers who are trapped and terrified?
Ugh their first world middle class arrogance is stunning.
[–]drink4glassesofwater12 points13 points14 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I honestly don’t even know why sex workers want their jobs to be mainstream and legal. When sex work is more accepted the market will be flooded and they’ll hardly make any money with so much competition. If prostitution becomes legal then they’ll get taxed the hell out of their money. Like I don’t get how these women in the industry don’t realize this.
[–][deleted] 20 points21 points22 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I think they tend to focus on the fact that there will be mandatory health checks and if it is legal they won’t get arrested for being prostitutes. Lots of people also think if it is legal then the government can regulate it, thereby making it safer. That is their reasoning behind it.
People do often forget that whatever the government gets involved with is taxed, and it isn’t a steady job. So not only will you be forced to serve a certain amount of men per day, but you wouldn’t even make the same amount of money.
[–]CoffeeAndCorpsesFDS Newbie7 points8 points9 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Also, less fear (supposedly) of going to the police when assaulted by a john, since you don't run the risk of being arrested for prostitution.

I think they sabotage the perception of career women.
They yell at us bow down bitchez, they shout "there's whores in the house" they brag about their "balenciaga's" and how they hustle, how their pussy is this, does that, makes bread and cures cancer.
Few sing about brains and true power, political power. Few sing about women's actual issues.
And I think it's not because they don't want to. I think it's because they are owned by the industry which is mainly men.
The others are no better for signing about how they'd be better girlfriends and ululate in the ultimate pickmeisha fashion about how they want the scrote back and how they've been cheated on but still want the scrote back.
They need to be abducted and helped with deconditioning from the massive brainwashing they just suffered because their shit keeps spreading in the same vein lib fem logic does. Like a coastal shelf of toxicity.

[–]BlackThummbFDS Newbie31 points32 points33 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I remember showing my mom the Pink music video for “stupid girls” when it came out, thinking it was so empowering, and my mom who hated swearing called her a bitch after that scene with the girl making herself throw up in the bathroom.
It took me aback, and my mom told me that when she was a teenager, she had a severe eating disorder. She told me that it happened due to a really chaotic home life, topped off with bullying in school.
She said that the disorder made her feel like she had control over something in her life. That it never crossed her mind that she was doing it to “be skinny” and make herself more attractive for men like the music video said. In fact, boys started making fun of how skinny she got.
I’ve never seen her that heated before, and she said women with eating disorders are not “stupid girls,” they’re just sick.

I thought it was off putting that her daughter wanted to look more girly and Pink’s response was “look at all these androgynous superstars!” instead of letting her dress like a fucking girl. She'll literally have vast amounts of political and economic power on the international stage - if any woman is feeling empowered, it's gonna be her. Or maybe instead she'll start an OF account?
[–]Buckley92FDS Apprentice4 points5 points6 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Although, I will say that it wasn't always seen this way. Back in 1970, in my mother's graduating high school class, there was ONE girl who wanted more than anything to be a lawyer and an accountant. The other girls, including my mom, if they went to university at all, did teaching, nursing, liberal arts or maybe studied to be a doctor if they were lucky.
My mother attended Catholic all girls school. There was no accounting course for them and the nuns were laughed at every time they asked for one. But this one girl wanted to study accounting so much, that the nun who was the head of the girls high school caused such a scene and screamed at the bishop and brothers in charge of the Catholic boys high school up the road until they gave in and let her go there and take accounting classes. The only girl in that school that year to take bursary accounting, and one of about five women in her university class.

It’s funny she mentioned how men love 3rd wave feminism. I always thought they hated it but actually the men I know who love it realize it benefits them. “We’re equals! Pay for your own dinner (or “treat” me), drive over to my house to sex me, pay half the rent (but do 80-100% housework).” etc. While their broke ass worries about gold-diggers. Nobody fantasizes about being beaten at 13yrs old. I was in middle school when home computers began being common and we'd talk about boys and what we wanted was to be kissed and to go on dates and hold hands. Nobody was talking about kinks, we still thought sex was icky at that age.
Now people think it's natural for preteens to watch porn and have kinks and be super sexual. I don't think that is true, you have curiosity at that age but don't really want to act on it.

I think social status also plays a role.
I used to visit a gym (pre Covid) in a nice part of town. Most women there had great careers or were “house wives” with staff. Majority of them would not participate in foolish things like going 50/50, obeying a man, letting a man let himself go. I think because a lot of them had healthy self esteem. None of them NEEDED a man.
But in university I saw a lot of girls from poorer/middle class backgrounds who were willing to do things that would not benefit them so at least they weren’t single. I guess because of lower self esteem.
So in conclusion I would argue that there is more work to be done in places were women have had less education or are the 1st generation to get a degree than in higher up places.

Another clue to why manosphere forums hate that demographic. What a surprise!
Security is very important to this, it's terrible that so many people feel compelled to stick together just to have a place to live. I've seen this too, codependency abounds for my friends who never went to college. The ones who have moved on and made a career are single or dating on their terms.
Edit: although I will say a couple of them are an exception to that, but I think this is where self-esteem and actualization also comes in like you said. I do have a friend who didn't go to college but is moving up in a company regardless and focusing heavily on self improvement as a single woman and I am quite happy for her.

I usually keep how I was raised to myself considering people on Reddit hate the rich, but that was how I was raised, so here it goes lol. You are SO correct. I would never dream of doing HALF the things my lady friends say yes to. College was so eye opening for me. The lower the income the more likely a woman is to tolerate nonsense and marry a man for security. We need more women of money. That’s the real empowerment that people seem to have forgotten about.
[–]CoffeeAndCorpsesFDS Newbie9 points10 points11 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]FitncurlyFDS Disciple6 points7 points8 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
This is my neck of the woods and how things are. And I agree. Some sort of economic or educational threshold seems to need to be met before women suddenly have this confidence. I myself may currently be a SAHM but I’m educated, started a career path before this and will have no problems picking it up. I keep fit and pretty and carry myself with confidence because I KNOW I don’t need a man—I have them hitting on me at any given time and I have my own means to earn money if I wanted/needed to. Men can’t play games (well, they certainly can’t win) with women like that.
[–]localgirlcultFDS Apprentice80 points81 points82 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
For me it's how we as a social group continuously let ourselves be walked on and deceived and we're like "Oh lol yeah ok. That sounds great. Let's follow what those guys said!!". What's gonna be the click that happens in all of our heads that stops this? I just wonder what men have to do to us for this to fucking stop. They've already done every possible depravity, it seems. But I guess it only seems. It can get so much worse and it will. Whenever they feel any power slipping away, they fight back like this and a huge number of women accepts it. It's just always certain women going forward and a larger number of women grabbing us and pulling us back. We can talk about how it's not their fault due to this and that, but this has gone way too far and some personal accountability is needed. I've grown up in the same society as every pickme in my vicinity. I'm not some mega genius talking about academic feminism and any sort of complicated concepts that the average woman would have trouble relating to, I'm a normal everyday person with relatable, everyday struggles. There's no excuse for not getting it.

A job where the lines between sex and rape are always blurred cannot be empowering.
Commodifying consent isn't empowering.
Being rejected by society isn't empowering.
Your kids walking with their heads down because someone saw their mother on only fans or youporn isn't empowering.
An industry where the majority are pimped and traded isn't empowering.
These women are 95% of the time victims of childhood sexual abuse and women with the least choices. They often feel this is what they deserve, it's a form of self-harm and punishment. Telling them they are empowered isn't helping them at all. Stop it.

I really don’t wanna sound like that person, but I really don’t belong in this generation of young ppl. I just don’t agree w/ any of this stuff. At this point being celibate seems like the only reasonable answer.
[–]GIfuckingJaneFDS STRATEGY COACH18 points19 points20 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yes... However did it ever really exist in the past? I think relationship dynamics have always been frustrating, but at least we can get educated, find high paying jobs and be able to walk away from abusive relationships. I don't think romancing the past is the answer and who knows if men won't fail even more in the future.

I know I do. I'm lucky enough to be dating a guy my age who doesn't watch porn/is against it and treats me very well, but it's so depressing looking at how other young guys treat women and the utter disrespect they have for them. I can definitely relate to not feeling like I belong in this generation, even though it sounds a bit cringe.
Luckily there are some gen z & millennial men out there who don't act like that! My bf is 21 and we've been together about two years, he pays for our dates and always treats me with respect, always opens doors, never looks at other women, doesn't have social media, buys me clothing I like to surprise me, and etc. It's still possible to find that!

Catherine Mackinnon provided legal counsel for Linda Boreman aka Linda Lovelace from the porn "Deep Throat".

The feminism taught in schools is usually of the LibFem variety. Sex work is work and “it’s my choice” type of feminism.
[–]romantickittyFDS Newbie20 points21 points22 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
There's feminism taught in schools? Aside from specific college classes, it feels like the general message is exceptionalism. That is, 'there was once this magical unicorn of a woman. She was so strong and smart and determined, more than any ordinary woman, that she overcame the limits of her gender. Perhaps, if you work very, very hard, knowing that everybody is against you and none of the boys will have to work as hard, you can also be the one woman who achieves success in her field. Now go out there and believe in yourself!"
[–]PollyAnnaSunshineFDS Newbie7 points8 points9 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I think you’re totally right about the exceptionalism.
Women’s studies in college, yes, and whatever they teach in high school that correlates. Our teachers in HS were very concerned with teaching about women’s “lib” and stuff like birth control and abortion but not so much all the other legal rights we didn’t have and how those were actually gained. Only things that actually connected to having sex were the focus of what we learned about women’s rights in the us, with the exception of the right to vote.

It’s funny how if a woman chooses to marry a sexist man who believes women should not work and instead cook and clean, who makes derogatory remarks about women, and who doesn’t believe marital rape can occur, that is suddenly not a feminist move. But she chose it right?! So that means it is ok right?! They will tell you that no, marrying a sexist man flies in the face of feminism.
And yet instead of marrying him if you choose to internalize the stereotype of women being just objects for sex (which also comes from a man) with no feelings then that is magically a feminist move. Boggles the mind really

Plus it doesn't fix anything. It doesn't fix the fact that women are paid less than men for the same job. Or how careers/industries become undervalued and begin paying less the more women join that workforce.
Instead society goes "well instead of making it equal why don't you just sell your body on the side thats fair right" no that isn't fair and it isn't equality. Why should we exploit ourselves further to 'fix' how our labor is being exploited in the first place?
[–]aellopeFDS Newbie12 points13 points14 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I think some of these men are just stupid. They think it's unfair that they CAN'T objectify themselves for money (I mean they can, but not to the audience they'd want). I had an ex who said I was lucky, if he was a woman he would strip/prostitute himself etc. for money because "I lOvE sEx". They imagine themselves doing this for people whom they are attracted to, AND getting paid, ignoring that is disgusting old men who are the target audience. Let alone all of the detrimental psychological effects that they obviously can't even conceive of.

Haha nothing was stopping him from being a prostitute! Plenty of men who will pay him?

Hail, hail, Queen Andrea. She knew the score.
[–]k_sugarplumFDS Newbie38 points39 points40 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Absolutely true. Couldn't have said it clearer. Self-proclaimed feminists that serve the male agenda are rampant nowadays.
Andrea Dworkin got so much hate, but it seems that her radical views are turning out to true... I have been meaning to read her work. Any idea where to start?
[–]elaenastonemoss7 points8 points9 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Andrea Dworkin has a very good memoir out called “Heartbreak”. A friend of mine had to read it for her Intro to Political Theory class and lent me her copy. Definitely worth a read!
[–]bluberry_xx6 points7 points8 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
All facts. Men being active feminists is like kkk members attending blm protests. It’s all bullshit and they have anterior motives.

There was a report on this. Most porn performers don't talk about the horrors they endured or witnessed until they age out, end up too injured and traumatized to work or otherwise retire, then the truth starts pouring forth.
I don't trust people who try to ignore that aspect of it. I recently got into a disagreement over this with a distant relative (through marriage, not a blood relation) who attended the International Meeting of Women Who Fight hosted by Zapatista women in Chiapas, Mexico in 2019. The relative-- who I'll call PickMelia-- who attended complained that the Zapatistas wouldn't allow the group of active sex workers in attendance to be heard. Of all the things that happened at the event, that's what she went on and on about.
I said I didn't blame the Zapatistas while PickMelia protested my view. I suggested that, at the next meeting, the Zapatistas invite a large group of outspoken retired sex workers to present their views so that, if the current sex workers want to make their case, they'll be confronted by people with real experience who understand that kind of denialism and cognitive dissonance.
PickMelia wasn't too excited about my suggestion and cut me off. I wasn't surprised. I've always had a problem with this relative. She bravely came out as gay years ago but there's no lesbian loophole for PickMe behavior. Worse, her PickMe-ism is outsourced, something I've seem more than once in my life. In short, she's a pimp. I find her to be rather "male leaning" in creepy little ways. For instance, she's a financial mooch and one of the ways she plies various men (often married or committed) for financial support for her various failed hippie ventures is by trying to pimp her straight female friends as an unstated quid pro quo. I suspect it goes further than that and she facilitates hookups for actual sex worker friends, but it's all glossed over with a neo-hippie, crunchy, groovy veneer. This is why I'll never agree to help sponsor her attendance to the Chiapas summit again. I don't like it when women couch internalized misogyny from behind a libfem mask. I won't pay to polish that mask.
In the end I don't think anything cohesively political is fueling her behavior and it probably even goes beyond pure, cold pragmatism. For such a big anti-rape activist, it was curious when my skinny little son was ogled by some peeper in a men's room at a restaurant and she blew off my alarm and basically shamed me for "overreacting." Also, since her father abandoned her family after cheating for years, it's like she's a covert enemy of monogamy. Not just an ethical non-monogamist but someone who gets off on betrayal and the destruction of relationships (she's never been in a long term relationship herself). Her expression of this is encouraging men (not so much women) to cheat on and betray partners. Just like Daddy.
Frankly I find her political justifications for this to be thin and poorly conceived. She's not stupid but suddenly sounds stupid on this issue. I think she's just trying to reenact a childhood trauma-- namely seeing her mother betrayed and abandoned-- in a psychopathic way. I wonder if her "support" of sex workers is subconsciously weaponized. I suspect something similar is at play for a lot of " sex positive" libfem apologists for the sex and porn industry. People with personality disorders often have a strange way of "sharing" their own past traumas- by making sure everyone else endures the same horrors.

Sadly I've found many lesbians to have a lot of internalized misogyny. They try to further themselves from the stereotypes of women so that they aren't targeted by men. It's sad. I have several friends that are bi or lesbian that I love dearly yet they still spout sexist and crude things to try to prove themselves.
[–]lskfjd743FDS Newbie1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
The lesbian and bi women that I have worked with and for basically shit on straight women in the workplace and were more racist than the most Kareny Karen out there because, to paraphrase the line in Mean Girls, they are "not like the other (straight) women - they are cool (lesbian) women".
[–]Emergency-Feed8216FDS Apprentice0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
You're spot on. N-Log-ism as a social climbing strategy and as a competitive tact with other women wouldn't necessarily depend on being attracted to men but could depend on simply viewing men and men's approval/attention (gained through any means, whether by emulating or titilating, etc.) as more strategically important.
Thanks for the response. I think Steinem or Susan Brownmiller called this being "male directed."

I know parts of society are influenced by porn more than we realise.
Does anyone know where the idea that sex trade is empowering came from? Did certain celebrities endorse it?
[–]samina_FDS Newbie[S] 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I don't know when it started exactly but yes you'll always see celebrities and mainstream media like Teen Vogue or whatever the hell talk about how this stuff is healthy and empowering. And its the same when you go onto mainstream 'feminist' forums, like the ones here on Reddit or those really popular feminist Instagram pages.
All of that is what the younger girls are seeing, nd learning to tolerate. While boys are seeing violent porn and also being told by society that there's nothing wrong with what they're doing
The whole sex trade things I guess also came from wanting to view all sex women have as empowering or 'owning' their sexuality. Also another idea thats gone mainstream.

This reminds me of a tik tok I saw. A reaction vid. Supposedly in the vid an instagram model that showcases her butt was being harassed. And was yelling at some guys to stop looking at her butt.
The guy reacting to the vid did a whole “this you?” Type clip with photos from her instagram. Pretty much saying Bc she chooses to make money off her butt she shouldn’t say anything to creeps irl.

What's sad is that this is considered a controversial view. Like I'm scared to post this on my Facebook. Porn is like a drug religion for so many people.

[–]purziveplaxyFDS Newbie4 points5 points6 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Seriously, imagine a store on the corner of every neighborhood giving away porn to children every day. As much as they want, whatever type they want.
That is the reality of what's happening right now online, but instead of outrage we are seeing total denial.
[–]rhyth7FDS Newbie5 points6 points7 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
When you ask men when they started, it's always young and they see nothing wrong with it and they act like what they're addicted to is the most vanilla stuff and it's all innocent but we know they're lying through their teeth.
[–]purziveplaxyFDS Newbie7 points8 points9 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
When you ask girls when they first saw porn it was usually their dad's or brothers. These men see nothing wrong with exposing themselves to it or exposing young girls to it.
And you're right people always talk about porn like it's just sex. It would be one thing if it was JUST PEOPLE FUCKING. But it never is. The first porn I saw when I was very young was bestiality porn on my friends family computer (I imagine the brother or dad had it in a folder). Fucking disgusting.

Not very pleased with this line of inquiry. We are so far past this aren't we? Really, aren't we? No?
