Male-on-female rape and violence is a worldwide problem and until we solve it, we need these spaces. Not sorry.

Historically “male only” spaces kept women out of valuable networking and career opportunities. Men did not keep women out because they fear violence from us.

Conversely, look how insane with rage men get even not being allowed into a virtual spaces like FDS. They want to disband, dominate and demoralize the women here. If this were meatspace I’d have no doubt some would seek to do us physical harm as well. It’s why we can’t meet irl or put any actual info about ourselves here. Male violence.

It's as if men object to us having a separate space where we're free from male gaze and make harassment. Just their presence is off-putting, with their skeevy looks and rude comments.

Before I began exercising at home, the gym could be a hostile place, with:

--Men hogging the equipment

--Men sitting on equipment that they weren't using, and checking their cell phones when others were waiting to use it.

-- Men purposely crowding close to you when exercising, even when there was no reason to

-- Men grunting, slamming weights around

-- Men leaving weights out everywhere, refusing to clean up after themselves

-- Men mansplaining exercises to you, unasked

-- Men leering or staring at women

-- Men shouting to their friends in the gym, and disturbing the peace

-- Men refusing to wipe down the equipment after sweating all over it

It's so much nicer when they're not around. They ruin everything. If they weren't such inconsiderate oafs, then women wouldn't want to separate from them. They act like morons, and then bitch when we create our own moron-free zone. Get bent, men. You created this with your own behavior, so stop complaining.

Just have them go undercover as nail salons, and men won’t give a shit or even realize . I’ve never seen a man in a nail salon (save the ones that work there).

I would love more women only spaces. I get anxiety going to the gym mostly because it’s mostly men, especially in the free weights section. If all women gyms existed, I’d be way more comfortable and willing to go. I actually never realized until now but men are mostly what have always made the gym uncomfortable.

Men leering and staring at women and constantly checking out every part of a woman's body is already what stops me and some other women from going to the gym. Hence, I bet that a lot of men, including the ones crying over that TikTok, are already guilty of enforcing segregation themselves. They just don't think the results of their horny actions through enough to realize that a dude taking sneaky pictures of you or a dude staring with sunglasses on, and the even bigger amount of men who will defend that sort of behavior, will drive women away and create segregation based on gender.

I don't have the full quote by Malcolm X on hand so I'll summarize.

Segregation is when an oppressor controls the oppressed spaces. He used the example of Black neighborhoods being created/funded/controlled/neglected by white politicians.

Separation is when oppressed groups and/or minorities make their own spaces that THEY control. A gay bar isn't segregation, it's separation. A Black book club isn't segregation, it's separation. A woman's gym isn't segregation, it's separation. These women are creating a space we need: a place to exercise in peace away from leering men!

Equating forced racial segregation to a women's only space due to safety concerns is so fucking stupid. This feels very offensive to Black Americans (I'm not Black so maybe I'm wrong/this isn't my place to say) to say that making women feel safe is the same as treating one race as less than human.

My town has a "Women's Library" (carved in stone above the door) that was built in the 1800s. It's a museum now but I see it all the time downtown.

Later today I think I'll look up what kind of reception it received when it was built.

Couldn't go in there without the guys staring at my tits. Couldn't use the thigh weights because one guy just stared fixedly at my crotch from five feet away in front of me as my legs went apart before I crunched back in.

Always aware the door to the women's changing and shower area had no lock.

So, no mixed sex gyms for me after that.

I've been to a female only gym, was lovely, super clean, well spaced and decorated, a few ladies of the Muslim faith could come with their hair showing which I thought was nice. It's too far from my new house, but I miss it.

I've been lifting for 7 years, and in time, experiences in the gym have included: being hit on, asked out for dates, filmed on camera while squatting, followed, ogled.

I went to a gym years ago that had a women’s only room in it. I thought it was a great idea and other people did too as it was always very busy. Not sure why people are complaining about them, if they don’t like it, solution is to not attend that gym!!

The kept fucking around, harassing women using the gym by ogling at them, sneaking videos and pics of them to fap later, yelling at them. They did this. I’d love it! I usually go to the gym 5 times a week and it’s heavily packed with men and it’s super uncomfortable to work out when guys are obviously watching you. And they even try to stop me to have a conversation when i’m IN THE MIDDLE of lifting weights and have earbuds in.

Woman only gyms or sections are like a sanctuary when there are creeps and predators. There was a women's only section that was small at my gym. I always wondered why that section was so packed when I started there. Becuase it was packed I decided to go into the larger co-ed section. I found a space that was practically empty with no one around in front of a mirror and doing squats. This man decides to come all the way across the room to work out directly behind me. Of all the space around me, he is right behind me as I squat. I left and went back to the female only section. That is why we need women only gyms.
