TLDR: I met a natural alpha (future alpha bucks) who didn't feel hookups were worth the effort or risk. He valued meaningful relationships more, but still got him high RMV women. Is spinning plates just a compensating tactic former "beta's" use to validate themselves, thereby confirming that they need the validation and have not escaped their beta mentality?

-------------------------

When I first discovered tinder I preached it to my socially awkward, but extremely intelligent nerdy stem friends. For us, we looked better on paper than in social settings. So since it did wonders for my confidence, which allowed for me to develop my social skills, I started to believe in the power of validation.

But one of my stem friends wasn't like the rest of us. He was varsity captain for 7 years (undergrad + PhD) and he was tall, charming, and handsome as fuck.

I tried preaching tinder to him as well once I heard he was newly single and maybe not feeling so great about the breakup. Part of me assumed he was like the other stem guys who were decent to good looking, but didn't have the confidence to match. I was wrong about him.

He did download the app, but was extremely picky and rarely swiped right. Whenever he did it was always a match. He didn't even write anything in his bio about being varsity or a PhD like we did (BB bait).

Eventually, likely to get me to stop prying, he told me that he had fooled around enough in the past and just considers himself lucky to have not gotten an STD from it, and doesn't feel the risk was worth the reward of just hooking up. He did once comment about essentially needing to get rich and successful to get a trophy wife, but that may have been a moment of vulnerability, because I don't think he lacked confidence at all.

Eventually, he ended up ignoring the few women he matched with and asking out a girl from work he thought was cute. She was also a PhD and ex-varsity, and a nice gal when I met her once.

So he skipped over the post-breakuo hookup phase for validation, was extremely picky to the point that he didn't pursue any tinder women, picked one woman he had his eye on, and they dated for many years.

So my question really is: is plate spinning for men with the "beta" mentality just so that they can get the validation they need go be confidence?

Am I on to something here?
