I've been here for a few months and never saw this discussed. What are your thoughts on women keeping their last name when getting married? Is it a red flag if she does? Is it a sign of liberation? Does it show a lack of respect for her husband? What about hyphenated names? What about the children? What if the mother wants to pass on her name to some or all of the kids? This thread from the TRP got up voted and says

This is modern feminism 101, wanting the perceived good parts of marriage (husband, security etc), without the negative parts, like submitting to your husband. If woman don't want to take her man's name, it's clear sign that there is no respect. Or does anyone really believe that there are many women who wouldn't take George Clooney's name in a heartbeat?

Take my boyfriend for example. His mother kept her name when she married (no hyphen). They agreed that all girls would get her name (again, no hyphen), and all boys get his father's name. I personally don't think it is that big of a deal one way or another. I might want to keep my name (he even expects me to), but I don't see how it makes much of a statement one way or another. Why does TRP think it is so important?
