Here’s the truth about the wall from a woman who has it in her rear view mirror. It absolutely exists. At 20, I got lots of attention. Lots. It’s not just the guys you want to date who notice you, it’s every male from 8 to 80, and honestly some women too. I had gotten out of traffic tickets, made incredible money tending bar, (more per hour than my first years as an engineer), never went a day without a job, and my A in Chemistry when I deserved a B+ probably wasn’t accidental.

Thirties slip a bit, guys who are younger start to notice less, but guys older than you still eye you up plenty. Around 40, you start to notice you are becoming invisible to the world. By 50, forget it. You better take your number at the deli counter and wave good tips at the bar. I’ve talked about the difference with my female friends. Even a friend who has never been especially attractive has noticed.

I’m 60 now and sometimes forget for how old and unsexy I am. I was looking nice, cute outfit, makeup, riding on the subway and I noticed a handsome young guy smiling at me. Last time I had been in NYC I was in my 20’s, so this happened all the time, but this time when he offered me his seat it was because in his eyes I was old, not attractive.

The other truth about the wall is really going to butt hurt all the male millennial incels who think I’m getting my comeuppance now that I’m an old hag. Sorry. Unless you make your living strictly on your looks, your world doesn’t fall apart. If you don’t get fat, you still attract the guys you want to attract. Pretty sure I could still get casual from 55 year old guys, commitment from a high quality guy 65 to 70. There really aren’t that many cougars out there who think hot young guys are waiting to marry them.

Now some harsh truth for younger women in their late 20’s , early 30’s. If you want kids, start getting serious now. Don’t waste time on guys who aren’t ready to commit. Things maybe a little different now, but when I was mid 30’s, all the available men my age and 10 years older were either divorced with kids, confirmed batchelors or lifecels. I watched my friends two daughters get the baby rabies and both managed to sneak in under the wire, but it was close. One married a guy she went to high school with but struggled with fertility and had her second at 41. Her other daughter just turned 40, is unmarried and has two young kids with a guy several years younger who makes less money. She and her partner honestly seems really happy, and both are committed parents, but it’s not what most UMC girls dream of when they are in college. The baby making wall is very real.

Other than that: daring to say that men and women are different in the non-physical realm and that there are traits where men are better than women (saying that women are better at certain things is totally okay and somehow perfectly compatible with claiming that we're equal).

Also: daring to mention the blindingly obvious for everyone with half a brain - stuff like "everything you see (which has been built, that is) has been built by men". For some reason, that's incredibly offensive to women.

There are also dozens of other things, but let's leave it at that.

When someone decides to drink and party with strangers without friends or backup, they share some responsibility in being raped. They're not predominantly at fault, but you don't drive without insurance or a seatbelt.

Virtually no criticism of women is allowed in modern polite society, no matter how valid or accurate said criticism might be.

Women are born and grow with something that the world desires that is inherent to them, it's probably true that many once carefree women don't realize what they had until it's gone and this mentally breaks them.

I find this bizarre.

When I was young, men from 12-80 were trying to fuck me. As I wasn't interested in most of them personally and wasn't trying to monetize my sexuality, this wasn't particularly helpful or useful to me. It was more annoying than anything. Sometimes it became downright frightening or dangerous (stalkers, etc.).

I'm 51 now so the pool of men who are interested in me is much smaller as it consists of men around my own age. And the creepy guys are naturally pursuing much younger women. That's good! I'm in a happy LTR and like my job and my life. It's much less complicated to not have to fend off unwanted advances.

I am not "mentally broken" -- I'm relieved, lol.

As a more specific response to your actual question, and this is hardly new, men’s perceived advantages and privileges are often and casually discussed but rarely if ever are women’s - namely their monopoly on soft power and ability to be valued, respected and loved in spite of all manner of vulnerabilities and weaknesses. Coupled with the indescribable power of being the sex with less physical need.
