I am really quite baffled at the blatant double standard of so many feminists. Since she broke the law, she shouldn't have to answer the consequences because she's crying? And a crying female is more to be pitied than a crying male? What makes a crying female more special than a crying male? When you beak it down, as with all other feminists logic, it just doesn't make sense.

Feminist ethics says traditional ethics favors reason over emotion as a bad thing, but then say we should favor emotion over reason. Of course to justify that claim they need...reason.

I was watching Alien (big day tomorrow :) ) and was thinking of the differences between Ripley and Lambert. Ripley throughout the entire film, maintains her composure while making difficult decisions, and well, she's a badass. Lambert, on the other hand is constantly in distress, and becomes incapable of fending for herself, constantly jeopardizing everyone during her moments of distress.

Ripley, I think is the image of a strong independent woman, what feminists would declare as the ideal feminist. But the more I hear about these young feminists lately, is they project the image of Ripley, and then turning around and becoming Lambert when things don't go their way.

I'm not bashing women, I know alot of strong independent women who don't identify as feminists. They push forward when shit gets tough. My point is, feminism seems to have become this mirage of strong independent women, when distressed, fall into the damsel in distress stereotype, relying on what they claim women are not.

Yeah, you see, here's the thing. Most women (I won't speak for all of them here) who are upset don't want someone to argue the merits of their case with them; they want someone to just listen. They don't want you to say that you wouldn't have got out of the speeding fine because you're a man, or even that she shouldn't have been speeding in the first place. They just want someone to listen, and just give them sympathy.

And you know what? I'd go so far as to say that most men are the same. Most of the time when I'm upset (especially after speeding fines) I'll know exactly what I've done, the logical considerations and the options I have. I know what I should have done or what I need to do. So when I talk to someone about it, I don't want just another voice in my ear telling me what I already know. I screwed up, I get it; I don't need another person telling me so. I just want a friend to show me that it'll all be okay.

So, the text conversation? Nothing to do with feminism, etc. Someone just wanted a friend. You gave her a lecture. Therefore, she rejected your advice.

Now, I would also say that the picture you guys are painting about men being 'cuffed and breathalised' if you were speeding is ridiculous. I've been pulled over once or twice, and both times the police were entirely friendly. Once I explained that I was dead tired, and the other that I was so nervous about driving the car that I'd pulled out at the wrong time (right in front of the unmarked police car). Both times they were totally chill. Had I been upset or in tears, I'd say that they'd be even more concerned that I was okay.

But whatever. Feminists are so entitled amirite?

Here's what you should say - 'the only way to get out of a speeding ticket is to contest it in court and pray the cop doesn't show up. Your chances are about 50/50 of that happening. Just be sure you have some kind of story if he does show up, not that you can win, but judges REALLY don't like it if you are obviously wasting their time.'
