Everything else is just maintenance. Working from home doesn't give me a lot of desire to dress up every day.

I spend a lot of time on my hair lately on wash days, it’s time consuming to have it long but I like the way it looks so I’ve been doing it while I can. I have no idea how long exactly, probably a couple hours a week.

I spend a few minutes on makeup if I’m going out.

I have a skin care routine I do every day to keep my face clear, it’s just a few minutes before bed and when I wake up.

I workout nearly everyday, probably the most time consuming, but this is also for my health not just appearance.

I spend a few minutes to get dressed in clean clothes, going out in your PJs seems pretty bizarre to me.

I always laugh when men say life is harder for men... leaving the house with 5 mins prep should be an acceptable norm for everyone.

Not much at all for hair and makeup…it took me about 15-20min to do my makeup for my own wedding the other weekend. For a normal day, i am comfortable wearing no makeup at all and am aware that my hair usually is not the best…i have 2-3 options for ways i style it (messy bun, French braid, or air dried…braid takes the longest at 2-3min)

I spend a borderline absurd amount of time in my basement gym though. But i get many other benefits from that besides just the aesthetics.

Alright so I feel like for tutorials It’s going to take longer because you are also talking to and showing things to the audience. I do dramatic eye makeup, lips, and nose contour pretty much every day (I don’t really go for foundation or lots of skin kinda makeup because I have clear skin and don’t want to clog pores) and to be honest it take 20-30 minutes if I’m like relaxing and not in a rush. It may initially take a while but once you get into the swing of it, makeup takes a much shorter amount of time than one would assume. That said, I still do think I put a lot of effort in, I’m just accustomed to it and know how to do it quickly.

Edit: also nightly skincare routines probably take like 10 minutes max and idk how much working out counts to appearance because it is honestly just good for you

Eyebrow pencil because mine are... lacking . Special? Sometimes a little bit of concealer if I have a blemis. Eyeshadow, eyeliner, lipstick or lipgloss. Takes me about 15 minutes, and that's only for special occasions. Regularly a little neutral Eyeshadow, and lipgloss.

My cousin in law practically spackles her face. She does insta tutorials, and I can't imagine how uncomfortable it must be to wear all that crap, especially in the heat.

I just get my hair wet and run my fingers through it. I have curly hair, so I only brush it when I wash it.

a bit! note im a stay at home (soon to be) wife. i have a decent amount of time

i’m lucky that i’m naturally slender so my exercise caps at a morning walk and a yoga class. both of those are more for my mental health and flexibility though.

i’m currently growing my hair out, hoping for length just above my bum. i wash my hair twice weekly and use specific products. i only heat treat my hair after washing, definitely not a daily thing.

i have a morning and night skincare routine. my skin is very very well looked after and looks great. i never sleep in my makeup. i wear makeup maybe 3/4 days a week. on no makeup days i just do my brows lightly. the makeup i do wear is light as my skin is in such a lovely state at the moment!

i get a pedicure with shellac every fortnight. my fiancé loves my feet to look pretty lol. i don’t wear anything on my fingernails, i just keep them manicured and neat.

i have extremely fair blonde hair, including on my body. i shave up to my knees, bikini and underarms. there really is no need for me to shave anywhere else.

that’s about it! all in all it’s not much. it all makes me feel great so i love my little routines ❤️

Also, keep in mind that women making those tutorials are often being incentivized to promote various brands. Hell if I could make money off it I'd add another 30 steps to my skincare routine as well.

I dress nice and I keep a healthy weight. I have long hair (waist length) which I take care of but don't usually spend time styling and I take care of my skin. I don't do anything special, including wearing makeup, more than maybe once or twice a month when I'm at fancy events (still only takes like forty minutes total) and I don't see a point to shaving. So probably more effort than the average man, but less than the average woman.

Every morning: cleanse face. Toner. niancimide serum and hyaluronic serum. Moisturiser. (Repeat at night). This will take 5 minutes.

I’m not great at makeup. I can do a little but not a lot. Typically if I’m getting ready for work I’ll just do a little brown mascara and fix my eyebrows and put on time tinted lip balm. This will take 3 minutes on top of my skincare (so 8 all up).

If I’m going to work but want to look nice? BB cream mixed with my primer. Concealer under eyes. Blush. Highlighter on inner corners of eyes and cheekbones and a little on my nose. Blush on eyelids. Possibly eyeliner - either liquid or pencil. Eyebrows. Mascara. Setting spray. And a lip crayon. This will take 10-15 minutes on top of my skincare so 20ish all up.

If I’m going to work and have time and energy for semi-proper makeup? We’ve got primer. BB cream. Concealer under eyes, on chin and forehead, under cheekbones, spot concealing, on nose. Minimal contour for cheekbones, jaw, and forehead. Blush on cheeks and a little on nose. Highlighter on cheekbones, nose, forehead. THEN eyes - eyebrows (fill and gel instead of just gel). Eyeshadow (2-3 shades depending). Eyeliner - usually liquid and a wing. Black mascara. Then lips - line with a neutral colour and then blend and then lip tint. Setting spray. This will take me maybe 30 minutes top. Eyes take the longest. So 35 including skincare.

Am I getting ready to go to an event? Proper glam makeup?

WELL. Here’s where we get messy.

SKINCARE - I do a mask the morning of. 15 minutes. On top of my usual stuff so 20 minutes.

MAKEUP:

We have the prep - I use two different primers on different parts of my face. Foundation, light coverage. I have two because I have combo skin so I have to use it in different spots to make sure it lasts. Contour - Cheekbones, jaw, forehead, and the nose. Concealer - above eyebrows and on eyelids blended up to my eyebrows, nose, chin, forehead, under cheekbones, under eyes and on the side of my eyes lifting up (Cleans up my eyeshadow I usually do eyes first).

Blush on cheeks and a little on nose.

Highlighter in inner corner of eye, cheekbones, nose, forehead, under my eyebrow arch. Some of that will be shimmer, some matte. So two highlighters needed.

I don’t put on my foundation and do all that stuff after, I actually make my face look like a Picasso painting essentially because I put the concealer on in smudges where I need it, the contour on where I need it, then the foundation fills in the blanks and I essentially spend 5 minutes blending it all in so it’s one senseless ‘layer’ so it’s not cakey. Then I do blush and highlighter afterwards. Often I will use a powder blush to intensify the colour and I also use setting powder under my eyes, my cheekbones (where I put the concealer) on my forehead, my nose, my chin….where I get oily.

So that plus blending equals maaaaaybe 25 mins all up with blending.

Then eyes. Ffs eyes. Carefully fill eyebrows and gel. We’re looking at a minimum of 3 eyeshadows, sometimes 4. That’s 10 minutes because of Blending and shit. We’ve got eyeliner next -liquid or pencil or Smokey shadow? Either way depending on the size of my eyeliner and what I’m doing that’s another 7 minutes on eyeliner alone because I demand precision. Mascara. Sometimes false lashes - magnetic usually. Which will alone take 7 minutes.

Lips - liner, lipstick, gloss. Depending on the colour of the lipstick (neutral doesn’t take long, reds or pinks do) we are looking at 2-5 minutes.

Setting spray.

All up, ‘glam’ makeup can take as little as 44 minutes to as long as 54 minutes. Plus skincare that’s….59 minutes to 69 minutes.

So, getting my face ready can take as little as 15 minutes to over an hour depending on the event.

But what about hair?

Well fuck.

I have wavy hair, which means I can do several things. I can style my natural waves, or not, or curl it. Styling my natural waves means using leave in conditioner, curl cream, and mousse. I’m pretty basic with it so brushing, scrunching it and applying products will take around 10 minutes. Then I plop it (pop it in a tshirt on top of my head) for as long as it’s taking to do my makeup then I let it air dry and when it’s dry I use a hair oil to scrunch out any crunchy parts from the mousse. So realistically it’s 15 minutes of effort not including the plopping and drying.

Am I using hot rollers? Usually only for glam events. That’s using heat protectant spray, 10 minutes of placing them, leaving them in while I do my makeup, spraying my hair in the rollers with hairspray, and then carefully removing the rollers and styling/brushing through to make it pretty and stuff….let’s assume it’s 20 minutes if actual effort all up with maybe 45 minutes of letting it set.

Is my hair dirty and poofy? I braid it back, 7 minutes.

Can I not be fucked with my hair? Brush and pin nicely, 5 minutes.

Also for an event - did I shave? (5 minutes in shower I’m pretty quick). Did I use a hair mask? (15 minutes) Did i paint my nails? (15 minutes, plus 20 for drying minimum where I can’t do much).

So - for an average day, assuming my hair is dirty and I’m just doing almost nothing, we are looking at an average getting ready time of around 20 minutes for skincare, mascara, eyebrows, and hair.

For a day I wanna look good? We are looking at between 30 minutes (skincare, basic face,basic hair, shaving) to 55 minutes (‘good’ face, styled waves, shaving, skincare).

For an event? Probably between 80 minutes (glam face easy wjth skincare and my waves styled and shaving) to as long as 134 minutes (glam face with eyelashes, hot roller hair, hair mask, shaved and nails painted).

So yeah, as little as 20 minutes to as long as over two hours.

It’s so dependant on where I’m going, how I feel, and what I have in my makeup case, and how much time I have. The more time = the more polished it looks.

Before you say ‘oh that sounds ridiculous’ yeah it is. God knows I don’t have the time or energy to do makeup most says. I probably mostly do my 20 minutes routine most days because of that. I save my more complicated looks for going out with my partner, or for when I want to feel better about myself, and when I do full glam it’s like once every 6 weeks max because FUCK that. And those time estimates are assuming nothing goes wrong and I do it all perfectly.

Makeup and hair is fucked. I love doing it, I love feeling good when I do it, but the effort can be immense.

I do skincare each night unless I'm really tired (rare, like once a month), and some degree of makeup every day, but it's anything from very light "no makeup" (mascara, eyebrow gel) to today, where I had on black lipstick and lashes and all that. Can't do my face tho. I've never worn foundation. I have no idea how to use it.

I don't do anything with my hair other than brush it. I'm debating dyeing it from dark brown to jet black and getting bangs, though, and cutting off all the dead ends. I'm waiting to see if I can grow it to my knees first, and am giving myself until next year to see if I hit that goal.

I love fashion. It's a hobby so I put a ton of time into planning outfits and online window shopping and considering pattern/texture/silhouette/fabric/etc. It's fun.

I workout fairly consistently. Always enough to maintain tone I've gained, but I have to feel more motivated to try to push to new levels. I'm working on doing this steadily because who doesn't wanna be fit?

I shave inconsistently because no one really sees my body except me and my partner, and he doesn't care. I wear tights a lot and layers so no one sees if I have hair or not. I've gotten lasered before and want to get my whole body done eventually.

Generally I'm ready in like 10-30 minutes depending on how much I'm doing.

Reading through this thread it seems I wear more makeup than most people here lol but it still only takes me about 20 mins to do a full face. I also love makeup (as I'm assuming a youtuber does) and like trying new products so it's enjoyable for me to do it.

About half an hour when I feel like doing makeup and when going to an event. A half an hour to a few hours of considering what to wear if going somewhere.

Washing face before bed. Changing bedclothes regularly to prevent acne breakouts. 30 min showers most of it is spent on my hair if I wash it. Showering every day (10 ish minutes if I am trough 3ish if I am too exhausted to wash properly) and moisturizing everything afterwards also 10ish minutes.

About once every few months soak my hair in oil and let it stay there for a few hours. Then washing it out.

So the answer is little.

20 mins maybe? 40 if I have my afro instead of braids. The only makeup I use is lip gloss/lip liner. Most of my time is spent in choosing clothes and accessorising. I do follow a 3/4 step skincare routine day and night everyday.

Does the gym count? I mostly do that for health purposes but I see how it influences. I could say my diet definitely aids my looks.

It depends. If I’m going out somewhere special, it’s at least an hour to 90 minutes between hair and outfit and makeup. If I’m just going out for the day, maybe 20 minutes. Then you add all the various maintenance time that is more occasional (nails, hair, cosmetic treatments, and so on).

With a Mother and Grandmother who were huge on their looks. They influence me at an early age as a man to take care of my skin, body etc. So every where I go I need to look good no matter what. You never know who you will run into just running an errand, for me it could a dime piece, friend, a client etc. Perception is everything and that one time can change everything

Anywhere from 10 minutes brushing my hair and putting on a swipe of mascara to multiple hours for a bridesmaid look.

If I want to shower and blow dry my hair for a little weekend hangout, it takes around 2 hours if I shave too and my hair is slightly messy before I shower (I have longish hair and brush before I shower and after it dries).

I usually just shower and towel and air dry while eating/making then go get ready though to save a tiny bit of time.

Mine is pretty short if I’m doing it myself: - morning/evening skincare routine takes about 5-7min - occasionally I’ll wear a mask; so that’s about 20min - I use a bit of bronzer, tiny bit of blush, and lip balm on a daily basis (takes < 5min) - if I’m going out for dinner then it depends how casual I want to go, but I’ll add mascara and a bolder lipstick, and if I really wanna go all out, foundation, eyeliner, and setting powder (so that adds 15min, cause I’m trash at it 😅) - I never do eyeshadow or eye makeup other than mascara/liner so I think that saves much time

I wear little to no makeup 90% of the time. I always try to have my toes and nails done, I shave everything, and I have a “comfy but stylish” fashion sense most of the time. So about the same amount of time as the average woman but more time than the average man.

Personally I like getting dolled up. Light beat for work, full glam for a night or meal out, bare face with lipgloss for school or errands. Full glam takes about 1.5 hours but max twice a week. Skincare routine, gym. Lots of water

I wear makeup rarely / minimally. Most days I have none on at all. Occasionally (once or twice a month?) I’ll put on a little lipstick, blush, and concealer in places that need it.

Even more rarely (a couple times a year) I’ll put on eye makeup such as eyeshadow, eyeliner, and false lashes. Like if I’m going to a wedding reception or a fancy restaurant or something. False lashes have a HUGE impact TBH and I love the way they look, but it’s time consuming.

I rarely style my hair. I don’t really know how. I have thin / fine / limp hair that has only gotten worse as I age. Mostly I wear it up in a ponytail or bun. I use box color dye to cover the grey.

I paint my toes in the summer when I’m wearing sandals frequently. I never paint my fingernails and keep them as short as possible. I don’t get manicures, pedicures, or other beauty treatments.

I do wear sunscreen on my face every day and use a decent moisturizer and a prescription strength tretinoin. As a result I have very few lines even at 40.

My nighttime routine is about 30 minutes, but half of that is dental hygiene which is more for health than beauty. The rest is a quick shower and skincare.

Morning routine if I wash my hair is about 45 minutes, most of which is drying my hair. If I don't wash my hair it's about 15-20 minutes (skincare, minimal makeup, styling hair). I only wash my hair twice a week usually. Also my hair is short right now; when it's long it takes ~45 minutes to dry and style.

On the rare occasion when I'm putting on a full face of makeup it takes about an hour because applying and blending eye shadow takes a long time and I often mess up and have to start over.

I get my hair cut every three months or so and those appointments take about an hour (I have crazy thick hair). I used to get it highlighted a few times a year and those appointments took 4-5 hours, but I have a kid now and can't afford that shit anymore.

So, day-to-day, about 45 minutes counting morning and night, but upwards of an hour on more complex days.

15 minutes for makeup, double that for special occasions, 10 minutes on my hair if it’s looking especially bad, 5 minutes of skincare at night most of the time.

The problem with wearing the same amount of makeup every day is that people come to just know that as your face, especially if it’s subtle. A lot of the men I work with probably know I wear a little bit but not 8+ products worth. If I were to go to work with 0 makeup people would be asking if I felt okay lol. I’ve been slowly downgrading the amount I wear over time because it’s just too much to deal with on a daily basis but it would be embarrassing to do all at once.

It is not just about makeup and face paint. It is your attitude to how you approach the world. It is an awareness of the environment and the effects you have and want to have on it.

I dress for an occasion, for the people, for the environment, sometimes for an individual.

You dress how you feel and I rarely feel bad. I wear jeans about once a month.

I have a stylist and esthetician do all the other work while I lay up and get pampered. A full body massage and detox retreat is also the only reason for living.

Makeup; I do light winged eyeliner (have been doing that for a decade so I’m quick at it), mascara, tinted moisturizer, light lip and cheek tint. Whole process takes about 15 mins every morning. Skincare is some facial moisturizer and collagen cream every night before bed, takes less than 5 mins.

Hair is another story. I have THICK hair with a coarse frizzy-wavy texture naturally, blow drying or natural drying takes about an hour, straight-ironing and the sheer amount of product I have to use to keep it smooth takes another hour. Can take longer in humidity. This is just to make it look NORMAL, making it look actually GOOD is a longshot. I try to tie my hair back in the shower and only wash it once every 3-4 days because the whole process is so exhausting and time-consuming. I love having long hair and wouldn’t cut it short, but it’s definitely, uh, something to deal with.

I put in contact lenses if I’m trying to impress.

One area I lack is working out. I kindof hate it/never feels like a good time to do it. So while I sporadically workout it’s rare and I don’t see much body change due to how infrequently I work out. And my workout is primarily for looks (I want to gain muscle).

I oftentimes work from home and I don't bother to put on makeup if I go shopping or if just going to brunch on the weekend. Just can't be arsed most of the time.

I wear eyeliner to work and same as you, I’m grocery shopping, I wear tshirt and shorts. For work, if I can get away with wearing scrubs so that I can basically work all day in “pajamas” I will.

Not much tbh but it seems like a lot. I don't really wear much makeup, cuz I have sensitive skin and find it inconvenient and putting so much products on my skin isn't a good thing. And it's just too exhausting. So I only put on sunscreen, mascara and lip balm but most of the time only sunscreen and lip balm. I love flowery perfumes tho.

I rarely do my nails cuz i work in the kitchen and I gotta do house chores, i tried to do my nails before but it was kinda annoying to do stuff. I only do when I really have a lot of free time doing it.

I only make sure to apply moisturizer all over my body every night, cold shower more often( I shower twice a day), eat clean and healthy and exercise routinely. These help a lot and effortless when you're used to it.

For the clothing, I buy things that are easy to wear and wear what I see 1st or 2nd as I open my wardrobe, but still look nice and clean ofc. It's just when i spend too much time thinking or choosing, in the end I'd get confused and lose interest in going out. For special occasions, I try to put more efforts.

I'm impressed by women who put a lot of efforts on their looks everyday or almost everyday. That's not easy at all. I like to see pretty things like makeup and nail arts, but to keep up with all that on a daily basis or often. Just no, cuz it'd take too much of my time.

And actually no one really cares about you putting on makeup, doing your nails or not. The ones who mostly care about it are women. I've experienced this myself. Never heard a man calling me out for not putting makeup on, but women around me. As long as you're clean, smell and look decent no need to think much about other things. You'll only tire yourself and leave your house messy cuz you spend too much time dressing up.
