Women are told to choose better because unlike most men, women are given an abundance of choices when it comes to romantic and sexual partners. And because of said choices, they have a high chance of finding a male who would stick around for the kid and be a good father/husband. And It is very easy to spot which guy will stick around and be a good partner and which guy will just wants to pump and dump.

The problem here is due to combination of hypergamy, girl approval and poor contraception on both parties, women find themselves pregnant for men that are very likely to be absentee fathers and/or poor long, term mates in general. And these men are not hard to spot. For example, if the guy is a known womanizer who has knocked up other women without commitment then there is a good chance he will do the same to you. Other common red flags are men who escalate to sex quickly, men who have no source of income, unreliable, history of domestic abuse, men with history of past violence, men who are known to sexual rape/harass women in the past. These are just some common things that women can use to filter out men who would make bad partners.

Women however often ignore men that would make good fathers/bf and wait until they find themselves on the wrong end of 30 and/or end up as single moms, to give these men a chance. And women know when to target these type of men, since they often do as single mothers (e.g. https://youtu.be/D8lTk-p8yOg). These men are easy to spot: They actually give a damn about the girl, they try to get to know her as a person, be friends first before moving things along to sex, they have no history of abuse/violence, not a womanizers or out of wedlock kid(s), they have a steady job etc. However, these men are often too compliant and predictable for women and/or not physically attractive enough or rich enough for them.

With men, we often don't criticize men as much due to the fact that most men don't have abundance of choices like women do. So a man's dating experience in his 30's might be the equivalent to that of a woman in her early 20s. Most guys don't get frequent dates, ONS or relationships like women do. Hell, the 2022 PEW research study in conjunction with another study in 2018 suggest that 30-40% of men might be entering into their 30s as virgins. Now, I would like to say that relationships are important aspect for people to grow, it helps people figure out what they want in a partner, set boundaries, be able to pick up red flags; all the while with emotions involved. A lot of men will be lacking in a lot of these areas and won't be able to pick up the women that have red flags. It's made even worse that since these men are so starved for sex and attention, they might even overlook these red flags because they don't know when they will find anyone else. So men picking bad women isn't due to a preference for them but due to scarcity of choice.

So in conclusion, women are criticised more because when presented with a good partner and a bad one, a lot of women will pick the bad one over and over until they find themselves on the losing end of dating. While for men, they often only have the bad partner as an option and the combination of loneliness, lack of relationship experience and fear of dying alone often drives them to pick said partner over being alone.
