I always hear people say these two things:

1) Build a happy life for yourself that way you can attract a mate. No one wants to be your source of happiness.

2) Find hobbies that fulfill your life.

But what if I'm not happy being single? Even if I win the lottery tomorrow and the quality of my life goes way up, I still want to find a loving romantic relationship. All the kool gadgets and hobbies in the world aren't a substitute for it. I feel like I'm just distracting myself with hobbies when deep down I just want a relationship is all. I don't care much about taking ANOTHER cooking class.

Also I understand that nobody wants to connect with someone sad and desperate, and no one wants to be your source of happiness, but what if you authentically just aren't happy until you meet someone? Are you just doomed to fail since you're lonely?

I always felt like people who tell people to just get hobbies aren't being fully honest with themselves. Ironically, it's usually people in loving relationships who say "oh just be happy doing your own thing." It's like they don't have a clue.
