Every once in a while, I visit this forum to gain insight into various perspectives on dating issues from both men and women.

For the record, neither side is entirely right or wrong. I believe life isn’t so black and white to pass judgments.

However, there’s a common theme in almost every post, regardless of gender.

Entitlement.

Why do we feel entitled to impose our standards on our ‘types’ and then become upset or resentful when they’re not met?

“Why can my type do this but I can’t?”

“I’m an attractive, successful, and charming man, so I must be entitled to an attractive woman who will cook, clean, and act like my mother.”

“I’m an attractive, intelligent woman who knows my self-worth, so I must be entitled to an attractive man who will spoil me, cater to my whims, and act like my father.”

“Why does my type only go for this other certain type that I don’t fit the criteria of? Surely, even though I don’t meet the criteria in the slightest way, I am entitled to still get them, right?”

The list goes on, and the comments are just as problematic.

If you’re frustrated with your dating life, ask yourself this one question:

Are you able to consistently meet ALL the standards that you seek in a partner right now?

If the answer is no, you deserve to be frustrated because you’re seeking needs you can’t fulfill.

If the answer is yes, you need to establish better boundaries, as you’re likely encountering entitled individuals and expecting them to change. (which is a form of entitlement in itself, as you believe you’re entitled to special treatment 😉)

When you start a job, you sign a contract stating you’ll fulfill the job description entirely and receive full compensation.

Now, if you want a raise, consistently put in the extra time or effort, and one way or another, it will come.

You don’t just walk into your boss’s office demanding a raise because you think you’re entitled to it, do you?

Regardless of what you read, see, or hear, all relationships require communication, compromise, and acceptance.

You are not perfect, so naturally, your partner won’t be either. So please, let’s stop acting like entitled children. It’s embarrassing.

TLDR; If you aren’t attracting your type, you’re most definitely too entitled.
