It influences some women to not do it and virtually all women to hide it. Women will still get laid, but they may only do so with a small number of men they trust won't blab about it and they will definitely have casual sex with men who are not pretending to be boyfriend/husband material. Those guys get the "I don't sleep with men I'm dating for at least 3 months and unless we are exclusive" treatment. Mostly because they have been trained that if they are too easy, men will see them as sluts.

the problem is that it's not gonna work in "open communities" as in big cities. for shaming to work it needs smaller communities because you can't really escape the shaming if stuff ever gets out.

What will happen is that women who want to sleep around will still do so and just not tell anyone. Having sex with men that are not part of the "community" will result in fewer chances of such action being found out.

Slut shaming in it's initial form is a relic of the past in the west. It was mainly a tool for female on female price fixing regarding the exchange of commitment for sex. It's like a cartel who wants to prohibit price dumping and competition by punishing anyone who offers sex too cheaply, for the benefit of all women. This only worked while sexual behavior was more or less public, as it happened within small social environments, where a lot of social control was present. With hidden casual sex with people outside of the social circle that has the ability to punish, slut shaming doesn't work anymore. A woman can have sex with 20 men in a year without anyone noticing. Women who openly talk about their promiscuous life do so, because they are in a social circle that doesn't use slut shaming anymore so they fear no repercussions.

It is completely pointless for a non-relevant audience to slut shame a woman. If her social status in the relevant social environment isn't affected, because they either don't care or don't get to know, slut shaming has no effect.

Nowadays, people slut shame for other reasons. Mainly frustration about not being part of the men who get casual sex, or, as a woman, to signal a value system to potential partners. Slut shaming is like a banner under which people with those sexual values gather and find each other, virtue signalling for their own value perception.

I think it would depend on who is doing it and how they go about it. For instance, undesirable, neckbearded men calling women sluts for sleeping around probably won’t have much of an effect. Or it could even encourage women to sleep around just to piss off those men.

On the other hand, if there’s more desirable men saying they aren’t interested in women who have slept around, then I think it would encourage women to not do it.

Women slut shaming other women also will likely have an effect especially if it’s coming from good looking women.

People in general tend to follow whatever norms there are. If it seems like people in general are not accepting of a certain thing or action, we’re less likely to do that thing. Hence why there is a push online to be accepting of promiscuous behavior.

Heavily depends on the environment of the woman. It’s more significant of a factor for women who are surround by religious or conservative people, high schoolers (although depends on the area, I never saw slut shaming when I was in school), women with a traditional upbringing, or if you live in a small town in Ohio and Carol is going to gossip about your activities at the 4th of July barbecue.

At this point the actual effectiveness of slut shaming has been diminished due to general overuse of what’s considered slutty. If some men will call you a slut for anything (including things that are the opposite of being slutty like rejecting sex) it doesn’t give the judgment much weight anymore so you have women who think fuck it if men are gonna think I’m a slut because I have big boobies I might as well actually be a slut.

Women who prefer to date more traditional men are also more likely to not sleep around or to hide it. Whereas a woman who wants a more progressive man would be turned off by man who slut shames regardless of whether she herself sleeps around.

Most of the women around me don’t seem to care about slut shaming unless it’s from their conservative parents. I’ve seen more shaming in the other direction from men I’ve known talking badly about sexually inexperienced women and virgins. Safety and a sexual satisfaction are the bigger reasons many women don’t sleep around.

For me personally, the biggest reason is fear of unintended pregnancy, as I don't want to have an abortion personally.

The second biggest is the whole sex-negative culture, including slut-shaming. It's not explicitly that I worry about someone shaming me directly, it's that I've internalized some of those beliefs and behavior patterns. I act more passive than men even when I want sex, I feel embarrassed about expressing desire, I feel weird about my kinks, I worry whether somebody who'd want casual sex with me respects me, I am afraid that if something bad happens it will all be my fault for being a horny bimbo and not taking more precautions, etc.

I guess it's more due to slut-shaming in the sense that culture has taught me some things like that than directly worrying about shaming. Like, if you could guarantee to me that I will never be shamed again and pregnancy isn't a concern, I still wouldn't do it or it would take me a while and some effort to get accustomed to the idea, because by now I have learned not to want it, if that makes sense. But if there was no slut-shaming and sex negativity in general while I was growing up and learning about these things, I think I'd be quite different. Not to the extreme, I still prefer some safety and intimacy and I think that's just my personality not only socialization. But I would've been more open for sure.

Dunno for women in general, I don't know any data on this, so I can just speak for myself.

In the number of women pursuing sexual activities? Little to none. What does get influenced is the quality of men/males who are considered good enough to be hookup material. Since the cost/consequences of sexual activities has been raised, the quality of the hookup would also have to rise to make the thing worthwhile compared to the costs/consequences.
